Mission Impossible Cape Argus on a Matie Bike...
A team of Stellenbosch University cyclists will on 11 March be embarking on what seems to be a Mission Impossible -- to do the 2012 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour on a single-speed commuter bicycle with no gears, branded the MATIE BIKE. These were imported from the Netherlands, where they were used in a rent-a-bike scheme for train commuters. 400 of them will be rolled out on campus from 15 March to reduce the number of cars on campus in the interest of environmental sustainability. This is a theme of the University's HOPE Project, a campus-wide initiative through which major challenges in society are being tackled.

Cape Peninsula Day Trip by Bike (not the best idea on a Sunday!)
The glorious spring weather in Cape Town had us heading out on the bike for the day. In retrospect not the best move as the rest of Cape Town had the same idea! :-)
After breakfast at Hudson's (Vredenheim Estate) just outside Stellenbosch, we took the coastal route all along False Bay (past Muizenberg, Fish Hoek, and Simonstown) to Cape Point.
Two Oceans restaurant at Cape Point turned us away as the 'deck is closed due to bad weather - disappointing. Especially as it's the ONLY restaurant.
At around 4:50 in the video you will see something that happens all too often around Cape Point - very aggressive baboons accosting anyone carrying foodstuffs. This time it was funny but please take care when you visit Cape Point to NEVER carry food around and be very careful when you have any handbags or backpacks as the baboons will steal it from you in a flash.

Argus success for MATIE BIKE
The MATIE BIKE has passed its first big test with flying colours. Seven Stellenbosch cyclists -- plus Pokkel, the Matie mascot -- completed the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour on these single-speed commuter bikes on Sunday, 11 March 2012. Even the 42°-Celsius heat did not deter them from their goal. The bicycles were imported from the Netherlands, where they were used in a rent-a-bike scheme for train commuters. 400 of them will be rolled out from 15 March to reduce the number of cars on campus in the interest of environmental sustainability. This is a theme of the University's HOPE Project, a campus-wide initiative through which major challenges in society are being tackled. If you support this 'green' cause, please make a donation.

STELLENBOSCH TOWN TOUR | CAPE TOWN VLOG [2019]
Cape Town Vlogger: Join me as I do a tour on Stellenbsoch Town , known as the City of Oaks'. Stellenbosch is an awesome tourist destination, surrounded by the vineyards of the Cape Winelands and the mountainous nature reserves of Jonkershoek and Simonsberg. Stroll down the town's oak-shaded streets (Church street) that are lined with cafes, boutiques and art galleries. Rich in Dutch colonial history, there are many Cape Dutch style architecture to enjoy, such as the Village Museum's period houses and gardens tour. Take a walk through the Stellenbosch University botanical gardens and try some delicious coffee from the many little coffee shops around. There is a town tour on foot as well as a friendly Madiba township tour. Spend an entire day exploring Stellenbosch town.
