Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) Trail Ridge Road - Alpine Visitor Center - Day 4 of 5
Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) Trail Ridge Road - Alpine Visitor Center - Day 4 of 5. Recorded on May 31st 2018. This video shows the The Trail Ridge Road leading up to the Alpine Visitor Center. We share some of the educational displays in the Visitor center. The Alpine Visitor Center is at elevation of 11,796 feet. Also shared some of the Trail Ridge Road Medicine Bow Curve leaving the Alpine Visitor Center.
“Rocky Mountain National Park's Alpine Visitor Center is located at 11,796 feet (3,595 m) above sea level at Fall River Pass, one mile west of the highest point on Trail Ridge Road and four miles east of the Continental Divide at Milner Pass in the U.S. state of Colorado. It is the highest visitor center in the National Park System.[1]
The Alpine Visitor Center includes restrooms, exhibits on the alpine tundra ecosystem, and a gift shop operated by the park's non-profit partner organization, the Rocky Mountain Conservancy. The visitor center opens around Memorial Day and closes around mid-October due to snow and the extreme winter environment. In mid-summer, the visitor center is also usually accessible by Old Fall River Road, a 9-mile dirt road open to one-way, uphill vehicle traffic.
Views from the Alpine Visitor Center include the Mummy Range, the Fall River Valley, and Trail Ridge to the east and the Never Summer and Medicine Bow ranges to the west and north. Hiking opportunities include the 1/4-mile round-trip Alpine Ridge Trail, commonly referred to as Huffer's Hill, and the 8-mile round-trip Ute Trail to Milner Pass. Park Rangers provide park orientation and interpretive programs on the alpine tundra.
Additional gift and food services at Fall River Pass are provided at the concession-operated Trail Ridge Store and Cafe.“

Rocky Mountain National Park (Summer Instagram Photos) - In A Colorado Minute (Week 222)
--- ---
Last week, I went to the Rocky Mountain National Park with my friend Jessica, while she was visiting from out of continent. This week, I've had so much work that I couldn't find time to shoot a video. Actually, Scott and I went on one awesome excursion - but I forgot to put the SD into my camera before we left. So I had a forced afternoon off from doing anything besides relaxing and having fun. It was wonderful. And it was earned, if I might say so myself.
In conclusion, for this week's video, I put together a collection of photos I took at Rocky Mountain National Park to (possibly) post on Instagram. Hope you enjoy this not quite so much Moving Postcard. And I hope I can find time to shoot something new in the following week, which has actually already started. Oh time...
If you'd like to watch a full video from Rocky Mountain National Park in spring, please check out this episode: Rocky Mountain National Park (Estes Park) – In A Colorado Minute (Week 208) -
If you'd like to know more about Jessica, who is an international teacher and world traveler, please check out this episode: Meet Jessica (International Teacher) – In A Minute Portrait (Week 221) -
And if you'd like to follow along my travels and explorations (even a busy bee gets the chance to enjoy a beautiful vista in the evening sometimes) via my photo stream, please follow me on Instagram:

A bird's eye view of Crazy French Ranch
The Lottery is proud to have helped fund the acquisition and preservation of Crazy French Ranch near Trinidad. A group effort by the City of Trinidad, The Trust for Public Land, and The Nature Conservancy, the $25.4 million project was made possible with two major Lottery-funded grants: a $7.5 million grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) and $7 million from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Check out our exclusive footage of the property, which could someday become a new State Park:19,200 acres of breathtaking landscape that includes grassy meadows, mountainsides of Ponderosa pine, fir and Aspen, rugged rock slopes, and steep ravines. The view includes Fishers Peak, which at over 9,600 feet is the highest point in the U.S. from Trinidad east to the Atlantic Ocean. The land is a habitat of elk, mule deer, black bear, cougar, turkey, and has stunning views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Spanish Peaks, and Trinidad city lights.

Colorado Unveils Official State Brand & Slogan (It's our Nature)
One year ago today, Colorado launched the most inclusive, collaborative and ambitious branding effort ever undertaken by a state. Rather than hiring an outside company to define who we are, we tapped into the spirit, energy and creative talent of our own people, to build a brand for Colorado, by Colorado. And today, we are proud to unveil that brand.
The logo and slogan represent the state's world-famous mountains as well as Colorado's continued ascension in any number of categories, from business and innovation to agriculture and health. They were selected based on survey responses from thousands of people here, nationally and internationally.
In Colorado, life is influenced by nature. The mountains inspire how we think and 300 days of sunshine rejuvenates our spirit. Nature is in our nature. Like Colorado itself, our new logo combines the familiar with the unexpected.

Getting To Know The Santa Monica Mountains : A Superswell VR Production
The Santa Monica Mountains have proven to be a very special place. Not only is it the largest urban national park in the country, with over 500 miles of trails, but it abounds with historical and cultural sites, from old movie ranches to Native American Centers. In addition to Malibu Creek State Park and Topanga State Park, the range is also home to the BackBone Trail, which extends for almost 70 miles, connecting the Santa Monica Mountains from east to west.
All of this lies less than 30 minutes from downtown Los Angeles.
The range is so unique, to manage it, the National Park Service has teamed up with multiple organizations including the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, and the California State Park system. They even share a hub in the middle of the range at King Gillette Ranch, just across the road from Malibu Creek State Park.
As a longtime resident of Topanga Canyon and former Malibu Creek State Park Docent, Superswell VR Executive Producer Wasim Muklashy gives you a tour of his favorite spots in the Santa Monica Mountains.

National Park Service | Wikipedia audio article
The National Park Service (NPS) is an agency of the United States federal government that manages all national parks, many national monuments, and other conservation and historical properties with various title designations. It was created on August 25, 1916, by Congress through the National Park Service Organic Act and is an agency of the United States Department of the Interior. The NPS is charged with a dual role of preserving the ecological and historical integrity of the places entrusted to its management, while also making them available and accessible for public use and enjoyment.
As of 2018, the NPS employs approximately 27,000 employees who oversee 418 units, of which 60 are designated national parks.
