HOKA ONE ONE Top Trails - Dipsea Trail, San Francisco, CA
The sixth stop of the HOKA ONE ONE Top Trails video series is San Francisco, CA. HOKA athletes Larisa Dannis and Magdalena Boulet lead us on a run on the historic Dipsea Trail, just north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. The Dipsea Race is the oldest trail race in the country, and spans a 7.5 mile stretch from Mill Valley, CA to Stinson Beach. The trail famously begins with a grueling climb up 688 stairs in the first mile.
Host Ian Terpin (General Manager, San Francisco Running Company) meets up with Jorge Maravilla (HOKA Athlete) and Brett Rivers (Owner, San Francisco Running Company) to discuss trail running in Marin County and the Dipsea Trail. Later, hosts Matt Barnhart and Ian Terpin sit down at the Parkside Cafe at Stinson Beach with Dave Albee (Dipsea Race Committee Member / Sports Journalist) to talk about the local legend Jack Kirk, a man who earned the nickname “The Dipsea Demon.” Kirk ran 67 consecutive Dipsea races from 1930-2002 and ran his last Dipsea race at the age of 96.

A Ride on the SF Bay Trail from San Mateo to SFO
This is a gorgeous ride along the sparkling San Francisco Bay through a fairly urban area. But while the area is urban, in places such as the Coyote Point Park area, one feels far from the hectic pace of Bay Area life. The path is a good one with a few rough patches and a couple of spots where one must travel the nearby surface roads. There are several large hotels in this area, so one is never far from a source of refreshment. This is a very civilized area to ride in.
