SAN MIGUEL COUNTY JAIL
San Miguel County Jail is located in the southwestern, Rocky Mountain ski town of Telluride, CO. It houses men, women, and juvenile offenders awaiting case adjudication as well as inmates who have been sentenced for Colorado misdemeanor and felony crimes.
The address of the detention facility is:
684 CR 63L
Telluride, CO 81435
Phone: (970) 728-1911
The San Miguel Sheriff's Office and the jail are accessed off of highway 145 between mile markers 74 and 75. Turn at the sign for Ilium and South Fork Roads, and in about ¼ mile you will arrive at the tan and green building.
Assuming bond has been allowed for an inmate, he or she can attain temporary freedom from incarceration when payment is posted. It is important to understand, if you put up money or collateral to bail out an inmate, you are susceptible to losing the funds or property if a court date is missed. To learn more about this process, see: How to post bail in Colorado.
At the San Miguel County jail, there are two ways to post bond for an inmate. First, you will need to obtain the correct bond amount by calling the jail at (970) 728-1911. To pay the bond, you can:
-Bring cash to the sheriff's office -- Photo identification will be needed and you will be required to fill out bond forms. Once the judge releases the inmate's bond, a check will be mailed to return your money.
-Use a licensed bail bondsman to post the bond -- Bonding agencies typically require collateral to secure the bond and will charge a percentage (usually 15%) for the service. These businesses can be found in online directories or the phone book.
When a detainee is booked into the San Miguel County facility, he or she will be allowed one free phone call. Family and friends are not permitted to call in and speak to an inmate. Phones are available in the dayroom and accessible to inmates who are eligible for phone privileges.
All calls from the jail will be billed collect to landline phones, or inmates can purchase pre-paid minutes through their cash account. If you would like to contribute to an inmate's cash account to pay for phone calls, you can bring in or mail a certified check, cashier's check, or money order made out in the inmate's name.
Phone calls between inmates and outside individuals are subject to monitoring and will be recorded. This means it is best to avoid subjects that could lead to incriminating statements, which could affect the inmate's criminal case. Documented attorney-inmate phone calls are an exception to this rule, and are not recorded.

History on Vacation-Colorado: Telluride #4
Huge Colorado trash pile lands homeless man in prison
A federal magistrate judge sentenced a homeless man to six months in prison earlier this week after investigators say he dumped 8,500 pounds of trash in the Uncompahgre National Forest near Telluride Colo.
Benjamin Yoho, 41, maintained a massive heap of litter in the forest from October 2014 to April 2015, report officials.
With the help of 48 volunteers, the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control airlifted over four tons of debris out of the forest by helicopter in May.
“This was no ordinary case of littering in the National Forest – this was full-scale trashing of the public lands and merited a term of incarceration,” Colorado U.S. Attorney John Walsh said in a statement.
Yoho was convicted and sentenced following a one-day trial in a US District Court in Durango Colo.
“Individuals residing on national forest lands is not only illegal, it poses a significant public safety concern and causes damage to the resources and watersheds, as well as threatening wildlife and in some cases prevents the public from being able to safely recreate in the national forest,” said US Forest Service Special Agent Laura Mark.
San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters took to social media to show the problem. “People say this is a homeless camp, and I think it kind of gives homeless people or people down on their luck a bad name,” Masters said in a video of the camp he posted to YouTube. “Its completely inexcusable for anyone or any group of people to live in such a manner – to trash our national forests.”
Colorado residents are not only upset about where Yoho littered – but also what he littered.
Officials say Yoho got the majority of his litter from Telluride’s “Free Box” where residents recycle clothing and household goods. “Unfortunately, the defendant in this case took advantage of the charitable nature of the Telluride community and made a mockery of it,” said Masters.
After serving his term, Yoho will additionally serve one year of probation in which he will be banned from all National Forest and Bureau of Land Management lands. His probation includes placement at a halfway house upon release. The court also recommends that Yoho receive mental health treatment while incarcerated.
“I hope this serves as a warning to all that trashing our National Forest is unacceptable behavior,” said Masters.
Masters’ warning comes at a time of increased homelessness in Colorado.
Last year Urban Peak, a nonprofit that provides food, shelter and education services for homeless young adults in Denver and Colorado Springs, experienced an increase in visitors by 5 percent, with 69 percent of the youth served being new to the facility. Some blame marijuana legalization for the rise in homelessness.
“Of the new kids we’re seeing, the majority are saying they’re here because of the weed. They’re traveling through. It is very unfortunate,” Kendall Rames, deputy director of Urban Peak, told the Denver Post.

Gay skater Adam Rippon declines NBC correspondent role - Breaking News One
Gay skater Adam Rippon declines NBC correspondent role - Breaking News One
NBC was left reeling Monday after skating star Adam Rippon pulled the plug on becoming their face of the Olympics. The broadcaster had planned to propel the bronze medallist, who has come out as gay, to prime time TV stardom after seeing that he had become a bit hit with viewers and trended worldwide as number one on Twitter. The first sign that NBC had failed to pull off its coup came at the Gangneung Ice Arena, where Rippon had won his bronze, failed to appear on screens as part of its ice dancing coverage team.Skating anchor Terry Gannon confirmed he had not been officially told of Rippon’s hiring and was confused. As he came off air from broadcasting live today at the skating rink, he told DailyMail.com: ‘I just read that he was joining NBC like everyone else this morning. Nobody has told us anything.‘But now you’re telling me his saying he is not going to be doing it (presenting). I’m sorry. I don’t know anything about that either.’He said he believed Rippon would have been a huge success in the role had he accepted it.This afternoon Rippon took to Twitter to inform his 362,000 followers that he had declined the offer. He tweeted: 'I am flattered that NBC wanted me to work as a correspondent for them here in PyeongChang. Doing this would require me to leave Team USA and move out of the Olympic Village. I don't want to do that so I had to declined the opportunity.'I love being on Team USA and representing our country. My teammates were there for me during my events, and now I NEED to be there for them. I look forward to being with them, and I’m very excited for the rest of the competition. Go Team USA!!!'He also revealed he found out about the job offer on Twitter, adding: '2018 is wild girl'.Adam’s father Rick Rippon joked Monday: ‘I read that Adam has been hired by NBC to cover the rest of the Games. Maybe I can get my cable bill reduced.’But he added: ‘It is amazing that all these wonderful things are happening for Adam.Rippon, who won a bronze metal in the team skating competition, has made headlines for his hilarious and sometimes controversial comments.During an interview with USA Today, the athlete took issue with Vice President Mike Pence leading the U.S. delegation in South Korea.'You mean Mike Pence, the same Mike Pence that funded gay conversion therapy?' he said. 'I'm not buying it.'He has also said he will be one of a few athletes who won't be attending a post-Olympics celebration hosted by president Trump at the White House.Donald Trump Jr took to Twitter last week to slam the wildly popular pro-athlete after Rippon said that despite his comments, he didn't want 'his Olympic experience to be about Mike Pence.''Really? Then Perhaps you shouldn’t have spent the past few weeks talking about him. I haven’t heard him mention you once???' Trump Jr. wrote. Before he got bronze, Adam and freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy this year became the first openly gay men to even compete at the Winter Olympics for the United States.Rippon finished in 10th

Mrs. Cole passed away in 2014. After Mr. Cole’s death, Mrs. Cole began what became the ranch. The ranch called The Briarpatch, has been the scene of many lavish, colorful parties and charitable events, attended by many sports legends and Hollywood's elite, including A.J. Foyt, Johnny Rutherford, Jim Nabors, Andy Griffith, Debbie Reynolds, Florence Henderson, Ruta Lee, Ruth Buzzi, and Phyllis Diller. Mrs. Cole's parties at The Briarpatch were also of legend. Guests were often greeted by costumed riders on horseback lining the long drive, all carrying flags. She had skydivers (including one of her sons, Jeff) land in the backyard during the parties. She owned several fire engines, Checker cabs, an ambulance, police cars, large trucks, and heavy equipment, some of which are still there today, used for movie props. Guests arrived in their own planes and helicopters at nearby private runways. The home was used for many charitable and civic related gatherings, including for Project HOPE, The 100 Club of Central Texas, and The Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian. It was also the site of car related events for Corvette and Corvair enthusiasts, automobiles near and dear to the Cole family. Much of the antique wood in the house is from the Lockhart Cotton Compress, circa 1860.
