oxford - The Sheldonian Theatre - ceremonial hall of the University of Oxford
The Sheldonian Theatre, located in Oxford, England, was built from 1664 to 1669 after a design by Christopher Wren for the University of Oxford. The building is named after Gilbert Sheldon, chancellor of the University at the time and the project's main financial backer. It is used for music concerts, lectures and University ceremonies, but not for drama until 2015 when the Christ Church Dramatic Society staged a production of The Crucible.

Morse's Oxford - 2. The Sheldonian Theatre & Hertford Bridge.
Second in a series of videos in which we take a look at different locations in and around Oxford used in the Inspector Morse and Lewis series.
The Sheldonian features in many episodes of Inspector Morse as it's a very iconic building right in the middle of town. To the right of the Sheldonian is the History of Science museum and a little further to the left is The Kings Arms, one of Morse's favorite pubs. Across the street is Blackwell's bookshop and The White Horse pub. For Morse lovers this is a feast of recognition.
Music by Puccini in public domain.

Amazing View of Oxford University Spires from Sheldonian Theatre Cupola
The Sheldonian Theatre Cupola is one of the best vantage points of Oxford. Built in 1664-8 by Sir Christopher Wren for the then Archbishop of Canterbury Gilbert Sheldon. Oxford University required a place for secular occasions such as Degree Award Ceremonies.
The Sheldonian Theatre is on Broad Street opposite Blackwells Bookshop with the world-famous Bodleian Library just behind. The Sheldonian always stands out as it is round and because it has statues of the heads of the Greats on the wall around it.
I didn't know that you could visit the Sheldonian with its remarkable ceiling fresco . The allegorical story depicted in the paintings shows Truth descending upon the Arts and Sciences and expelling ignorance from the University

University of Oxford - Matriculation Ceremony
What is Matriculation?
By matriculating, students confirm their acceptance to Oxford's regulations set out in the ‘Sponsio Academica’, or oath that has been apart of the university's history for hundreds of years. Wearing sub fusc, the formal academic dress required for the ceremony, we walk down Oxford’s cobbled paths towards the Sheldonian Theatre to undergo the formal process of enrolling at the University of Oxford.
