Best Church in Pune | Top 5 Churches in Pune | Famous Churches in Pune
The churches in Pune are not only places of worship, but also speak about the history and artistic bent of the patrons. Most churches in Pune, Maharashtra are not very old and date back to the 19th century; whether you talk about the churches in Hinjewadi, Pune, churches in MG Road, Pune or churches in Baner, Pune. If you want to know the oldest church in Pune, St. Mary’s Church is the answer. With its beautiful mix of British, Gothic, and Indian architectural styles, it is also known as the most beautiful church in Pune. Given that it can accommodate up to 1000 worshippers at a time, St. Mary’s Church is one of the best churches in Pune for Christmas celebration.
Within a short drive from Viman Nagar, St. Xavier’s Church, Pune, Maharashtra is also counted among the most famous churches in Pune. This over 150-years-old Roman Catholic Church in Pune is a fine example of artistic intricacy and tranquillity. Further, All Saints’ Church, Brother Deshpande Memorial Church and St. Patrick’s Cathedral are also among the best churches to visit in Pune. While the first two are denominations of Church of North India, the latter follow the Roman Catholic belief.
Those looking for Protestant churches in Pune and Pentecostal churches in Pune will be a little disappointed as there are only quite a few in the city.

The history of Churches in India and Pune in particular, is fascinating. The oldest living Church of the world is in India. Christianity came to God's own country before it reached many European countries including Rome. In fact while St Thomas was building Churches in God's Own Country, Nero was busy persecuting the other Apostles.
Probably the most powerful Emperor of his time, Akbar has a Church to his name that was built on land donated by him and also with the funds donated by him, right in his capital.
Pune also has its share of glory, as the first Church in Poona was built on land donated by the Brahmin Peshwa, who had also contributed financially in the construction of the Church that was built for his Catholic Portuguese soldiers.
Thereafter different flavors from across the world arrived in Poona, giving the city a cosmopolitan touch long before the word was conjured. It has brought not just different cultures to add to the diversity of the city but also different kinds of architectural designs.
The Churches that were built during the period, which are now much more than a century old were not just a witness to history in real time, but also played a pivotal role in influencing the course of history. These institutions provided spiritual nourishment to the Christian soldiers who had come to Poona to help the Peshwa fight his battles and the subsequent militarization of the city.
There are probably about hundred Churches in Pune, each of them with its own story to tell, but some very interesting stories are to be found literally on the floors of the Churches, where some of the stalwarts are resting. These stories do not stand in isolation in the overall environment as the whole nation was in a state of transition with its impact on the global polity.

St Francis Xavier Seminary: Moulding the Shepherds of Tomorrow
A new chapter unfolds for the Archdiocese of Singapore, as construction of a new facility for the St Francis Xavier Major Seminary and Catholic Theological Institute of Singapore nears its expected completion date by the latter half of 2018.
In this video, explore the history and significance of the seminary as the ‘heart of the diocese’, as well as the importance of formation in the mission of the Church.
Support garnered through the GIFT campaign has enabled construction of the facility to kick start early, providing a better place for the formation of future leaders in the Church. However, further support is still needed to see the project through. Find out more at gift.catholicfoundation.sg.
Together, let us build a more vibrant, missionary, and evangelistic Church.

St. Patrick's Cathedral is a Roman Catholic religious building located adjacent to the 'Empress Garden' in Pune (India). Built in neo-gothic style in the middle of the XIXth century it was adopted as 'Cathedral' Church when Pune (then Poona) was made diocese (1886), of which it is still the main church. It also has the highest number of parishioners of the Pune diocese.
On December 8, 1850 the first mass was celebrated in the new chapel which is now St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Back To School (Saint Xavier's, Nasik)
When the heart-wrenching news of the sudden demise of my best friend from school, Animesh Banerjee, became known to me, I had no choice but to travel back in time so I could relive all those lovely moments we spent together. My other best friend Arjun Bhandari and I packed up our bags (he from Bangalore and I from Mumbai) and left for Nasik where the three of us were born and raised. We were an inseparable trio back then and our lives were tightly intertwined with one another's. We inspired one another. Be it studies, painting, writing poetry, listening to music, dancing, travelling, watching movies...we HAD TO do it all together. Our lives often got tough too and when one of us couldn't bear the pain any more and sent out an SOS, the other two would drop everything and rush to him. We knew every little thing about one another...each little secret. There was nothing hidden ever. And now, one of us was no more. Gone for good. Never to return.
Incidentally, it so happened that Arjun had never been to our school. He studied elsewhere and came into our lives only after we passed out and moved to college. That's when Arjun and I decided that there could be no better place to begin this nostalgic journey from, than my school, where I first met Animesh. And so, to say proper goodbyes and to attain our closure, we went to Saint Xavier's High School...where it all began.
This is a film about our school, yes, but more than anything else, it is a film about friendships that blossom in school classrooms, meander through corridors, get super-charged in the playground and mature in the quadrangle.
Arjun, I love you. Thank you for being there when there wasn't any.
Animesh, this one is for you. Love and light, always!
