Best Pizza In Amsterdam - or the world?
I'm an American, but visit Europe every spring/summer, with Amsterdam being my very favorite city on earth. I love the atmosphere, the canals, the people, the lifestyle - but not so much: the food! But, year after year, I do return to what has become my very favorite place to eat in any city that I've visited (as well as Los Angeles, where I live) - Spuistraat 122. The menu features dozens of Italian dishes, including, of course, pizza. And, I must say, it's the greatest pizza I have ever had. Period. For the first few years, I assumed I just loved it because there were no other places in Amsterdam where I loved to eat. But the last few years I am certain: it's the best pizza PERIOD.
So, if you're visiting Amsterdam anytime soon, or if you live in the Netherlands and just haven't happened upon this small gem yet, let me help you find a not expensive meal. The establishment features indoor and outdoor seating - and of course, offers a take out menu.
Spuistraat 122 is located in the heart of Amsterdam - a quick walk from wherever you might find yourself: ten minutes from Amsterdam Centraal Station, two minutes from Dam Square, and less than a hundred steps - a one minute walk - from the Multatuli Statue (on the famous Torensluis Bridge). So walk, bike, take a tram, or take a boat by way of the canals - just don't miss out!
From what I can figure, this Cicina Italiana & Pizzeria features one pizza maker, Mattia, a true Italian chef who clearly loves what he does for a living. Each pizza is created out in the open, right in front of a huge window, so feel free to watch the action.
