Aerial Fields: Rondriso Farms, Surrey, BC Canada
Ron Tamis collecting corn by hand for the next morning farmer's market
This is an excerpt from Sylvia Grace Borda's 'Aerial Fields,' a video artwork, commissioned by the Surrey Art Gallery in 2013-14.
For the production of 'Aerial Fields' Sylvia worked with a remote controlled low altitude aircraft or video drone to film across a number of Surrey and the Fraser valley growing basins in south western British Columbia, Canada. In this project the artist has caught dense plantings rendered as continuous horizontal planes -- something rarely experienced in art or life.
'Aerial Fields' (33min) was projected on a nightly loop from 6pm to midnight at the Surrey Urban Screen, an outdoor IMAX-scaled projection facility located at the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre, between September 20, 2013 -- January 15, 2014. 'Aerial Fields' was produced with support from the BC Innovation and Media Funds, Creative Communities Award: Province of British Columbia, the Surrey Art Gallery, the Surrey Farmer's Market Association, and the British Columbia Young Farmers. The project was curated and managed by Liane Davison and Alison Rajah at the Surrey Art Gallery.
