'The Cotai Strip is a term coined by Las Vegas Sands Corporation with regard to its building of a strip of hotel-casinos in the Cotai section of Macau, a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China. Cotai was the result of a major land reclamation project which joined the two islands of Coloane and Taipa, and is part of the Macau government's continuous efforts to expand the region's territory. The reclaimed land in Cotai is to be mainly used for casino developments and Las Vegas Sands Corporation envisioned that their development of several adjacent properties would comprise an area that would resemble the Las Vegas Strip, albeit on a considerably smaller scale.[1][2] Over the past decade, the layout of the Cotai Strip has also slowly developed into a grid like layout with major hotels and casinos (Wynn Palace, MGM Cotai and Galaxy Macau) built not directly connected to the 'strip' as opposed to Las Vegas strip with the majority of major hotels and casinos with front access to the Las Vegas strip. The Cotai Strip is a term coined by American Las Vegas Sands Corporation with regard to its building of a strip of hotel-casinos in the Cotai section of Macau, a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China.
Galaxy Entertainment Group's Grand Waldo Hotel was the first casino to commence operations in Cotai, opening its doors in May, 2006.[citation needed] The construction of many other casino and hotel projects is currently underway. The largest and most notable property on Cotai so far is Las Vegas Sands' Venetian Macao, which opened its doors on August 28, 2007.[3] Melco PBL Holdings opened the City of Dreams directly across the street from the Venetian on June 1, 2009.

Macau is another special administrative region of China. So when you plan to travel to Macau from Hong Kong, you need your passport as you will be entering another territory. You will be passing Immigration to enter and go out of Macau to go back to Hong Kong. Macau is formerly a Portuguese colony, so you will see some Portuguese architecture.
Currency: MOP or Pataca. HKD (Hong Kong dollars) is also accepted in Macau, and the exchange is 1 is to 1.
Travel time from Hong Kong to Macau is about an hour through ferry.
When you decided to go to Macau, I suggest you purchase return ferry tickets if you’re planning of visiting Macau for one day as it might be really hard to get ferry tickets back to Hong Kong on the time you intended to return. Also, you will save some bucks when you book return tickets.
Hotels in Macau offer free shuttle service to/from their hotels from/to the ferry terminals. So you can just hop on on one and hop off at the hotel or from the hotel to the ferry terminal. The most convenient is taking a taxi.
There are 2 ferry terminals in Macau, (1) Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and (2) Taipa Ferry Terminal. So make sure you know which terminal you will be taking to go back to Hong Kong when you purchase return tickets.
We purchased return tickets from TurboJets. Ticket price 371 HKD each.
Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong is located at 3/F Shun Tak Centre, 200 Connaught Road Central, Sheung Wan.
How to get to Macau Ferry Terminal:
Basically, if you’re taking the MTR, you need to go to Sheung Wan Station and exit at Exit D. Follow the signs.
From Mong Kok - Take the MTR to Central (Red Line) then hop off at Central Station then take the Blue Line (Kennedy Town) and hop off at Sheung Wan station — just one station. It’s gonna be Exit D. Just the follow the signs.
From Kowloon - Take the MTR to Central (Orange Line) then hop off at Central Station then take the Blue Line (Kennedy Town) and hop off at Sheung Wan station — just one station. It’s gonna be Exit D. Just the follow the signs.
So we were from Fortress Hill. We took the Blue Line (Kennedy Town) and hopped off at Sheung Wan Station and then exited at Exit D.
Don’t forget to try/buy/bring home jerky and egg tart in Macau.

Travel in Hong Kong to Macau Ferry
Ferry is the cheapest mode to reach Macau from Hong Kong. Most of tourists use this mode of travel. The fare is almost 170 HK$, as of Dec 2017.
You can catch ferry to Cotai Strip, called as Taipa, or downtown Macau, known as Outer Harbour. The ferry takes almost 1 hour to reach Macau. Better catch ferry to Taipa. Visit Sands Cotai, The Grand Canal Shoppes in the Venetian. Then you can catch a casino bus to reach downtown Macau. Visit old fort and senado square there.
The ferry journey is very comfortable and the inner design of the ferry is very similar to the airplane. I just loved it.
Please note you will have to pass Hong Kong Immigration to go to Macau by ferry. You can pay in Hong Kong Dollar for return journey at Macau ferry terminal.
