Vetal Hill (Marathi: वेताळ टेकडी ) is a prominent hill in the city limits of Pune, India.
There is a temple of Vetala located on the top of the hill from which the hill derives its name. The Indian Forest Department maintains an observation deck near the temple. The hill is also known by its Marathi name, Vetal Tekdi.
Vetal Hill is a part of Bhamburda Van Vihar located on the western side of Pune Municipal Corporation within the city limits. Vetal Tekdi is prominent and is visible from Pashan, Panchavati, Chatturshrungi and other parts of the city. It has two spurs, Fergusson College Hill and Chatturshrungi Hill. Parvati Hill History
Parvati Hill is a hillock in Pune, India. The hillock rises to 2,100 feet (640 m) above sea level (It includes Pune's MSL which is 560m from sea level, so effectively it's 80m(263 feet) from ground base). Atop the hillock is the Parvati Temple, one of the most scenic locations in Pune. The temple is the oldest heritage structure in Pune and was built during the rule of the Peshwa dynasty. For visitors, Parvati hill is also an observation point that offers a panoramic view of Pune. It is the second highest point in Pune (after Vetal Hill). The hill has 103 steps leading to the top of the hill where the temple is situated.
The main temple, Devdeveshwara, is made of black stone. It was completed under Balaji Baji Rao, in 1749. Other temples are dedicated to Vitthal and Rukmini, Vishnu, and Kartikeya.
Besides the temple, the Peshwa Museum is situated there. The samadhi of Balaji Bajirao lies, where he spent the last moment of his life. Parvati water tank supplies water to the half of the city Pune.

Parvati Hill Pune | Heritage Walk with Prof. Ghanekar (पर्वती मंदिराची माहिती)

My first Heritage Walk with Heritage India and I am so happy I did this!
Heritage India is a great organization and if you'd like to know about them check out this link -
I am very impressed with the management of Heritage India and the way they conduct a trip or event. I'll definitely join them for more trips and heritage walks.
I am also very impressed by Professor P. K. Ghanekar! What a brilliant man and amazing personality! I am very much intrigued to learn more from him. He has written a lot of books and I already have a list to read
you can check out his collection here -
Parvati temple is one of the main tourist attractions in Pune so living here I always wanted to know more about it, the history, architecture, culture, origin, etc. and man I did learn so much from this heritage walk.
How the temple was established is a great story of a Mother and her Son and later developed by another Mother and Son. Like most old structures, this temple is also seen ruined by oil paint, but I think nowadays people understand that just painting over the original structure isn't called restoration! The Government authorities should invest more time and efforts to learn more about restoration. We mostly see private organizations working towards the awareness and cleanliness of such places.
The most irritating thing is when I see names written on temple walls!
I mean how stupid are you? Why do you have to write you and your girlfriend's name on a temple?? I really don't understand what happens inside the minds of such people. Some people still don't understand doing something like this permanently ruins the place for everyone.
Enough about that though, Parvati temples have a lot to offer other than the view of course. Best view in town! Situated right in the city Parvati offers a 360 view of the entire Pune city. My particular favorite is the sunset from Parvati, no better option. Parvati temple though is crowded in the morning feels very pleasant and calm.
As a child, we use to go to Parvati from the back side through the taljai hill, back then there was a lot of 'wildlife' in that area. It's quite tough for me now as I have put on a few extra pounds :)
I don't have much to say about Parvati because most of it is covered in the video still if you wanna know more, read Prof. Ghanekar's books.
I like posting videos about my travel and treks but it gets tough while working as an animator. Appreciation definitely inspires artists and I believe it does me too. So, show some love! Click the like button, Subscribe to my channel and Share my videos with your friends and family.
