Vienna, Austria: Heurigen Wine Gardens
More info about travel to Vienna: The uniquely Viennese institution of Heurige is two things: a young wine, and a place to drink it. Long ago, when the Habsburg Emperors let Vienna's vintners sell their own new wine tax-free, several hundred families opened these charming wine-garden eateries clustered around the edge of town — and a tradition was born.

Vienna and the Danube
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | For centuries, Vienna was the crown jewel of the rich and powerful Habsburg Empire. A century after that empire's fall, the Viennese appreciate their imperial legacy as a cultural wellspring — and an excuse to live in style. We'll take in the city's wealth of elegant gardens, great art and fine music. Then we'll explore the city's surroundings, with a trip along the romantic Danube River and a hike through the breathtakingly Baroque Melk Abbey.

Vienna Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
Vienna is a city of music and the arts, where the compositions of Haydn and Mozart ar as alive today as the melodies of the Strauss family or ’sramli’ music. From among the many sights of the ’imperial city’ the Hofburg, Schönbrunn and Belvedere stand out, but we can not forget the City Hall, the Stephansdom, or the Kunsthistorische Museum either. The ferris-wheel of the Prater, the buildings of Hundertwasser and the Danube Tower show us the modern side of the city. A visit to Vienna would not be full without a coach trip or a wine tour in Grinzing. The imposing streets fulfil us with the atmosphere of the Monarchy, while in the cafes we can taste the famous Sacher cake or the Viennese kapuziner.

Vienna tourist tour
During my visit to Vienna I shot some video clips of my tour to the main side seeing places as;
Belvédère, Schloss Schönbrunns, Pestsaule, Judenplatz, Karlskirche, Seccession Building, Stephansdom, Jugendstill Majolikahaus, Wiener Staatsoper Griechische Kirche, Museum of Natural History and the Prater, Hope you enjoying it.
Bye to Budapest, Hello Vienna
*Hoping this is the only video that's grainy. We haven't found quick internet in Vienna and this took 2 1/2 hours to upload. Eek!*
We start off our day with a grocery-store breakfast in Budapest. It's quick and convenient, cheap and tasty. With lots of cafes and restaurants closed on a Sunday and us heading to the bus station, Plan B was a pretty good option.
This was our first Flixbus experience. On this trip, we'll be using them 8 times and we had lots of questions about what to expect. We included information we would have liked to know in advance.
In Vienna, Tim gives a quick tour of our hotel, the Mercure Hotel Raphael Wien. It's a boutique hotel paid for with Chase Ultimate Rewards points, so it's travel hacked, and free. It's a lovely hotel!
Vienna has a world-class opera house. Tim went along with Amy's wish to attend Verdi's Rigoletto. Tickets sold out months ago and we arrived too late to purchase standing room only tickets. The Vienna State Opera shows live performances outside for free and we watched the whole thing that way. On a beautiful night, it was a special moment. And, Tim didn't think it was so bad after all.
We would appreciate a thumbs up if you like our message. If you'd like to hear more, please subscribe. We'd love comments or questions below! We reply to every one of them.
We retired early (in our 40s) after reducing our expenses by $6,500 a month. Now, our big splurges tend to be travel and health-related versus stuff. Please check out our other videos! Some are about our traveling adventures, others are about out new(er) life of FIRE (financially independent, retired early) and financial freedom.

My 30 Day Eurail Pass - Budapest, Hungary
Back to Budapest, it's been years since I first visited Budapest for a Viking River Cruise down the Danube to Nuremburg, Germany. I didn't spend much time here last time, so I was really looking forward to exploring the city again.
I stayed at a very nice hotel, the Lanchid 19, A Luxury Collection, right below the castle on the river. It was easy enough to catch the bus right at the bridge to get to the other side. I was able to navigate the buses, trams and subway pretty well, just one wrong direction this time.
I met with some locals from Couchsurfing, the first was Marcell, a music student who had never met anyone from Couchsurfing before. We hung out at his local bar, that's where everyone from his school hangs out, even one of his teachers stopped by and had a drink with us.
After our meeting I wandered around the city, it was nice to see how the buildings and monuments looked lit up after dark. I made my way back to my hotel and was looking forward to my first full day in Budapest.
Today I had a food tour with Taste Hungary, their Culinary Walk. We met at the Central Market, an amazing building full of food and other products to buy. The food tour was so good, we got to taste so many local foods. The various salamis were great, the picked veggies, especially the watermelon, that was surprising. We had the traditional Langos, Unicum digestive drink, a delicious chocolate shop, a nice local lunch spot for more meat and some goulash, and an old coffee shop for some coffee and pastries. Our last stop was wine and cheese tasting, so good, I even liked their dessert wine, and I don't drink alcohol.
Later that evening I met up with Petra, a local college student who showed me around the city, some of her favorite spots. We did quite a bit, had some good Hungarian pancakes, meat and dessert. Had some wine, some great inexpensive pizza and tried to get into a temple bar, but it was too crowded.
I also met Anna, who had a photography exhibit at a coffee shop where I just happened to stop by for a hot chocolate. She was showing some really nice photos along with her friend Pele.
I had a great time in Budapest, time went by so fast, I need to go back again!

Wachau Valley (Austria) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Wachau Valley in Austria.
The Wachau is the most famous stretch of the Danube in Austria, thirty six kilometres of romantic Danube Valley. Today’s townscape of Krems brings back bygone days and a particularly beautifully-preserved street complex. More than a hundred buildings provide an authentic picture of the Old Town. Today, the buildings’ façades and entrances are decorated in the traditional way and show off the town’s splendid Renaissance and mediaeval buildings. Sacred monuments recall the victory of Catholicism over Protestantism following two centuries of hostilities. Up the Danube to Dürnstein, a place with a long history and unique appearance. Arrival by boat is particularly scenic and a jetty leads to a wall from where a gate and steps provide access to the Old Town. The small mediaeval town clings picturesquely to the cliffs above the Danube, guarded by castle ruins and fortified walls. In Roman times, vines were cultivated in this picturesque area due to the region’s ideal growing conditions and Weissenkirchen has always been a wine-growing centre. The steep river valley and its terraced vine gardens enjoy a temperate climate. The small village has a long and dramatic history and its old houses and lanes are indelibly evocative of the past. Spitz is picturesquely embedded within its surrounding vineyards, and the legendary Thousand Bucket Mountain is an imposing sight. It was not only due to wine but also the trading of both wood and salt that Spitz attained an important position in the Middle Ages and at the beginning of modern times. Since the year 2000, the Wachau has been a World Cultural Region, a gem on the long route of the Danube, a picturesque river valley where both mediaeval and Baroque create an exceptional atmosphere, and nature, the perfect setting.
