Retired Man's Bike Trips all over the U.S.
I am not ready for the Tour de France or in any way a competitive biker or racer. I am retired educator who needed to find a way to get outside, travel, get in much better shape and have fun. Over the past year I took up bicycling on a refurbished 2009 Haro XL Express hybrid comfort bike that I got from Old Bikes Belong in Louisville, KY and my retired life is awesome now.
I have been able to ride on trails as far south as Tampa, FL, as far north as Ottawa, ON, as far east as Washington DC and as far west as San Francisco, CA and ride 5-6 days a week, from as little as five to as much as 50 miles a day. Except for a few dirt and mountain paths (and on UNDERGROUND) these are mostly paved, relatively flat and enjoyable trails that are used by thousands. I do not like to ride on city streets and do not include bike lanes in my videos......just a preference as I value my life more than adventure.
I have included my favorite video clips from the following cities as well, taken mostly with a GoPro Hero3, helmet mounted and some with an IPhone clipped to my shirt, so I know some of them bounce a bit! I hope this helps someone as many of my rides have been discovered on YouTube and I find myself saying, I can do that!. Enjoy and know that if this 60 year old, 6'5 retiree can get out there and do it and lose fifty pounds, so can you! I'd be happy to provide feedback for others if you need it! Now that it's done snowing bring on 2015!

Bodycam-Moments leading up to Louisville officer shooting felony suspect
Body camera video released Friday by LMPD shows the moments leading up to a detective shooting a felony suspect that led to an eight-hour standoff in south Louisville.
Det. Robert Holland is on administrative reassignment pending the Public Integrity Unit investigation into his shooting of 26-year-old Daniel Allen on Thursday.
Lt. Aaron Crowell with the PUI said Friday that officers found Allen in a stolen white van on Weyler Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Officers created a barrier with their cruisers to box the van in the driveway, but when they gave Allen verbal commands, Crowell said Allen jumped in the driver's seat and tried to escape, hitting several cruisers and nearly hitting officers surrounding the van on foot in the process.
The body camera video shows the van ramming into an LMPD vehicle at the base of the driveway, at which point gunshots can be heard. Crowell said Holland fired several shots into the van, hitting Allen.
Allen eventually found his way out of LMPD's barrier, and the van was found soon after in the 3000 block of Montana Avenue. LMPD called SWAT, the Hostage Negotiation Team and the bomb squad to assist. Over the course of the day, three people were pulled from the home without incident.
Around 9 p.m., Allen was found hiding in the attic. He was transported to University Hospital, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was released overnight and booked into Metro Corrections at 5 a.m.
He's charged with four counts of attempted murder of a police officer, among other charges.

American Southwest (#01): Creede, Colorado
Why the Southwest? This region is not a single destination but a series of destinations ... from the desert to the mountains. Scenic back roads offering the allure of serenity and tranquility and slower paced travel ... small towns that invite you to linger a while ... mountain vistas that bask in the changing colors of the autumn season of golden aspens and cottonwoods ... snow capped peaks that foretell the oncoming harsh season ... canyons of all manner that lift your spirits at the first light of day when the sunrises wash the cliffs in orange to the deep shadows of sunsets when the same cliffs are crimson and blood-red.
Creede: Creede was probably the wildest town in all of Colorado during its heyday of three short years. Creede was founded in 1890 after Nicholas Creede struck it rich in 1889 with silver at the Holy Moses Mine in North Willow Creek. In just one short year, Creede became a hopping boom town. The population increased by 300 people daily in 1890 and grew to more than 10,000 people before the town's sudden demise in 1893 due to plummeting silver prices. Compare that with a population of approximately 590 for all of Mineral County today, and you'll get a feel for Creede's popularity and importance when mining was king.
Creede is known for its resiliency. It suffered through major floods in 1892, 1903, 1911, 1917, and 1942. One flood killed more than 1,000 people in the suburb of North Creede. (That is more people than than live here today.) The town was rebuilt after four devastating fires; the first was the same year as the first flood, 1892. Other large fires occurred in 1895, 1902 and 1936.

[00:00:00] In God's country. Now if you need to be 15 minutes from a Neiman Marcus you are out of luck. Always seems like you're out there because I've never been here before. But we're truly out there. It's absolutely beautiful land and there's plenty warmish around which means it's good quality land which means you can grow stuff on it. They're big on that. They're not going to buy land that isn't good soil. This guy's got a nice house. He's got seven and a half acres. And a really cool barn. Wait till you see a he also has one hundred and fifty acres in the back. House and Land, off grid Log Cabin Tiny House for Sale 151 acres, fishing lake
So you can buy it as the House and seven and a half. Or you can buy as the whole farm. We could buy the hundred fifty acre separate whatever you want. I wanted to do this drive up for you because I just thought it was real pretty.
[00:00:58] Now there's some little country stores and things like that nearby. So you know you're not that far out and you're not far from a jug of milk. You're not that far from Danville or liberty or Campbell's but if you're on the witness protection program this would be a good place for you. Here it is on the left. If you're going to be able to see back in there or not. But his off grid Log Cabin and barn is painted like a Holstein cow it black with white spots. See you back there.
I'll get you close up on it. But I wanted to show you the driveway and I want to show you the neighbors across the way. That's pretty nice and he's even got one of them cow mailboxes so he painted himself anyway. Beautiful. All brick. And it's got like four car garage he's got two cars in the front car and half on the side one in the back. Nice one to show you this drive up because I think it's pretty.
[00:02:01] So they're get a whole weekend now. To go to this House and Land - He didn't give me the right directions. You like it so far. I figured you would leave the car right here and we're going to get out and see what we got. We have had a rascal of a winter.
We are on chicken gizzard road. Don't ask but you can't buy an address like that.
[00:17:10] Again here is the barn and you got this awesome pond and when you're old lady kicks you out for the weekend. You come on down here and smoke cigars and she's not going to complain. I don't know why women complain about smoking cigars anyway. This is definitely what we call affectionately here in Kentucky a power house. House and Land, off grid Log Cabin Tiny House for Sale 151 acres, fishing lake. Come on down here so it's so small it's so small.
You have to step outside to change your mind and that's why I got this super wide on here so you can kind of see what's going on.
