Bath, UK complete walking tour
The town center of Bath has a human scale with lowrise buildings and quiet streets lined with shops and galleries ideal for strolling, all contained in a relatively small area only about 1000 meters in one direction and 500 meters in the other. A nice place to start walking is the small Abbey Green, a peaceful courtyard with a large tree in the middle and historic old buildings all around. This courtyard is quite central. It's just one block over from the Bath Abbey and yet is easily missed because it's really not very conspicuous.

CLIP DESCRIPTION:
While exploring the hotel, Danny (Danny Lloyd) encounters the ghosts of the murdered Grady twins.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy -- or, rather, a homicidal boy in Stanley Kubrick's eerie 1980 adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel. With wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and psychic son Danny (Danny Lloyd) in tow, frustrated writer Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) takes a job as the winter caretaker at the opulently ominous, mountain-locked Overlook Hotel so that he can write in peace. Before the Overlook is vacated for the Torrances, the manager (Barry Nelson) informs Jack that a previous caretaker went crazy and slaughtered his family; Jack thinks it's no problem, but Danny's shining hints otherwise. Settling into their routine, Danny cruises through the empty corridors on his Big Wheel and plays in the topiary maze with Wendy, while Jack sets up shop in a cavernous lounge with strict orders not to be disturbed. Danny's alter ego, Tony, however, starts warning of redrum as Danny is plagued by more blood-soaked visions of the past, and a blocked Jack starts visiting the hotel bar for a few visions of his own. Frightened by her husband's behavior and Danny's visit to the forbidding Room 237, Wendy soon discovers what Jack has really been doing in his study all day, and what the hotel has done to Jack.

Hang Drums in the City of Bath, England!
We went to see the historical Roman Baths in southwest England in an aptly named city--Bath. Anyway, while we were waiting out line in front of the bath entrance and in the face of Bath Abbey, we had some entertainment.
Hotel Review: The Castlefield Hotel, Manchester, England - August 2019
Review of central Manchester's Castlefield Hotel, located at Castlefield Bowl.
Hotel Reviews: England playlist, here: of a review of central Manchester's Castlefield Hotel, located at Castlefield Bowl.
I stayed at The Castlefield Hotel for one night in August, 2019. This cost £65 for one night on a bed and breakfast basis. My room was on a high floor with excellent views over Castlefield Bowl. The bedroom was large, the bed was a super-king sized one. The room was very decent and comfortable, three negatives were: a lack of air-conditioing, a lack of plug sockets near the bed and quite a few cobwebs and spiders on the high walls and ceiling. With that said, the room was a great size and I was overall very happy with it. The bathroom was spacious, but in need of some maintenance, it unfortunately had a shower over a bath instead of a shower cubicle. The breakfast buffet was superb, with a good range of very tasty items. I would definitely consider staying at this hotel again in future.
This film includes exterior views of the hotel, reception, lobby, bar, restaurant, lift, 3rd floor corridor, breakfast buffet and a detailed room review of room 311.

Francis hotel in Bath
I couldn't resist... a walk down the corridor in the hotel.
The hotel occupies seven of the original 18th Century townhouses that make up the south side of the centrally located and sought-after address of Queen Square in Bath.
Built between 1728 and 1736, Queen Square was designed by John Wood the Elder (1704-54). The hotel’s seven townhouses are now seamlessly interconnected to house 98 luxurious bedrooms.
Hotel Review: Best Western The Stuart Hotel, Derby, England - April 2019
Hotel Review: Best Western The Stuart Hotel, Derby, England - April 2019.
I've just added a review of the Best Western The Stuart Hotel in Derby, England, to my Hotel Reviews: England, playlist here:
I stayed at The Best Western The Stuart Hotel in Derby over the Easter weekend in April, 2019. Three nights on a room only basis cost £43 per night. The hotel has a car park and is centrally located, which is why I chose it. If you are arriving by train, the hotel is around a 5-7 minute walk from Derby Midland Station, and a 5-7 minute walk from the city centre.
There is a bold and modern porch at the front of the hotel, which leads through to a small but newly refurbished reception area. First impressions are that the hotel is quite stylish. to the left of reception is the restaurant, and to the right is the bar. They were both a little pricey, and I didn't try either.
The hotel does not have a lift, which for a modern hotel is a basic necessity, this was disappointing. We had to go both up and down stairs with luggage to get to our room (215). The room was small with a double rather than king-sized bed. The left side of the bed was so close to a dressing table / desk unit, that one night I stubbed my toe very hard on the unit as my foot was stuck out of bed. The floor was creaky and the walls were thin, so conversation from the corridor and other rooms was audible. The room did not have air-conditioning, and got very warm as Easter 2019 was in the mid 20s temperature wise.
The bathroom was mostly newly refurbished, but instead of a shower cubicle it had a shower over a small bath, a cubicle would have been much more practical for the space that was available.
There were sufficient plug sockets in the room, with two bed-side ones (one didn't work), and ample storage space for our long-weekend stay. There were tea and coffee making facilities, a safe, hair dryer, free wi-fi and a flat-screen TV. Parking at the hotel is free, although the car park isn't huge, and may possibly become full at certain times.
This hotel had both good and bad aspects, the key positives being the cheap price and the car park, the main negatives being the small room and bed and lack of lift.
All of the staff whom I encountered were friendly, professional and gave good customer service.
I did not eat breakfast at the hotel, as I thought it was too expensive at £9.95, there was a good cafe called 'Brenda's' around 20 metres to the left of the front door of the hotel, which was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone staying here.
This film review includes the hotel exterior, reception, bar, restaurant and a detailed room review of room 215.

Haunted Exclusive episode 1: The Nayland Rock Hotel
The Nayland Rock hotel is comprised of numbers 1-5 of Royal Crescent (built 1858), Margate a seaside town in the South East of the UK. The hotel was first mentioned in national newspapers in 1883, where it is variously described as a, new hotel...far from the madding crowd, as being granted a licence for spirits and in need of a book keeper and other staff. In the era of the Titanic, 13th April 1912, it was advertised in The Sporting Times as:
The most unique on the English coast. Magnificent position by the sea, within a few yards of high water mark; away from the crowd, yet only one minute's walk from the station. Many structural additions just finished, including a new electric lift.
Other plaudits can be found sprinkled throughout its recorded history, including one from a fond TripAdvisor reviewer who reports the service being 'first-rate' in 1959.
The Nayland Rock is most famous today for its Mick Jagger connection, as his in-laws reportedly celebrated a wedding anniversary there, as well as for its recent appearance in King of Thieves, a heist film starring Michael Caine.
As one might expect from an aging hotel of varying fortunes, it is also marked by tragedy, being infamous for rape, suicide and fires.
If you have any stories about the Nayland Rock please share in the comments section.
Note: In this episode, so called hidden staircases now leads nowhere, I suspect because the top floor was redesigned after it was rebuilt after a fire (sometime in the 1970s or 80s) and their by then redundant entrances wasted valuable space. Also, Juliet identifies her room as being on the 3rd floor, when it was most likely the one above. At the time of her living at the Nayland the top floor was not divided into small rooms with a narrow corridor, as it is now, and the windows and roof were different.
