Dick Dale / Tom Mein Country Jam.AVI
Short jam during the Dick Dale Seminar at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, AZ.
Lead guitar: Dick Dale
Rhythm Guitar: Tom Mein
Shoddy camera work: Me
Dick Dale was talking about strumming patterns and leaving holes in your rhythm playing for vocals or leads and then had everyone try it. Tom was one of the only people to bring an amp, so when he started playing, Dick heard him, looked up and called out, Who's doing that? Who is that? When Tom indicated that it was him, Dick shouted, Keep doing that! and then started playing lead over it. Tom looked over at me and said Get this! After fumbling with the camera to get it in video mode, I was able to capture this moment for him. Way cool!
Aaron Huey: America's native prisoners of war
Aaron Huey's effort to photograph poverty in America led him to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where the struggle of the native Lakota people -- appalling, and largely ignored -- compelled him to refocus. Five years of work later, his haunting photos intertwine with a shocking history lesson in this bold, courageous talk from TEDxDU.
