CASTLEBAR LIVE FUND RAISER WEEKEND
Castlebar Live is a non profit organisation set up by local music enthusiasts in the summer of 2015. Their main goals are to make Castlebar a more attractive destination for lovers of live music and encourage social and economic growth of the town. The official launch of the Castlebar Live committee was held on Fiday 17th June and was attended by Cathaoirleach Blackie Gavin.
In September of last year, they held an open air event in Hoban's car park. Local publicans and businesses helped make this happen by contributing towards costs. Local musicians also helped by offering their time and skills free of charge. They also had help from members of the community and other local groups who gave their time to help out. The event was a huge success and so it was decided to keep it alive and build on it.
This year, Castlebar Live will be bringing you yet another fantastic event. Anyone who attended Ceol @ the Crossroads will know that the desire to see live music in the town is well and truly alive.
In order to make it happen, funding and community support is needed and so this weekend they will be having a fund raising weekend while also providing entertainment for the people of the town.
The plan is as follows;
Friday night there will be many live bands taking to the stage in Bosh, Linenhall St., Castlebar including Jam Shugar, Ryo & Damo, Hotrock, Pray for Mojo, Lunar Ticks and more to be announced. Admission is free and the show starts at 9.00pm. The Music Train will be entertaining the people and publicans of the town by calling to each bar to play a few tunes and spread the word about Castlebar Live and provide information on their future plans.
On Saturday morning they will be having a cake sale in Lough Lannagh Village in conjunction with Le Chéile F.R.C. and Women's Shed. There will also be a 4km cycle around Lough Lannagh and fun activities such as face painting and arts and crafts for the children. Jam Shugar will be providing the entertainment with an acoustic set of all your favourite tunes from 60's classics to modern favourites. The fun starts at 11:00a.m. and will carry on until 1:00p.m.
Sunday evening will see the return of M.A.S.S. (Musical Acoustic Sunday Session) in Tony Flynn's, an open session for musicians to play and network with other musicians and have the craic. If you are interested in getting involved with any of these events to help rejuvenate the live music scene in Castlebar, please message them on Facebook at Castlebar Live or email castlebarlive@gmail.com.

Easter Monday, 1916
To mark the centenary celebrations of the 1916 Rising, Maloney’s Dream is a family-friendly action-packed, bi-lingual show full of live music, physical theatre, animation and puppetry.
Suitable for all audiences aged 8 up to 108, this is a captivating story of how one man’s dream collided with the birth of a nation. Thaddeus Maloney returns home to Ireland to realise his dream of opening a new hotel on Easter Monday 1916 on Sackville Street (now O’Connell Street). However, the events of that week impact his plans. Using diary entries and recorded personal accounts, the show explores the impact the Rising had on the lives of ordinary people and introduces audiences to the history that shaped our country.

President Michael D. Higgins visits HFH Ireland worksite
The President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, celebrated with two families who are becoming homeowners for the first time with the support of the charity Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Ireland.
The two families have since moved into their new homes on Emmet Road, Inchicore which have been renovated by Habitat for Humanity Ireland in partnership with Dublin City Council (DCC). The Clail/Greene family and Corcoran family were selected from the DCC housing list according to their level of need, their ability to repay a small mortgage and their willingness to work on-site alongside volunteers and trade professionals. More than 2,500 hours of volunteer time helped complete the majority of the cosmetic work on site.
President Higgins said, Real engagement and meaningful participation by each and every citizen in building community and strengthening civil society is not just a hollow aspiration. The work undertaken by Habitat for Humanity and its partners on this project is a visible manifestation of the kind of transformational change that can take place when people mobilise around a positive vision and follow through with purposeful action.

SUMMARY
=======
The Irish Rebellion of 1798 (Irish: Éirí Amach 1798) was an uprising against British rule in Ireland from May to September 1798. The United Irishmen, a republican revolutionary group influenced by the ideas of the American and French revolutions, were the main organising force behind the rebellion. It was led by Presbyterians angry at being shut out of power by the Anglican establishment, joined by Catholics, who made up the majority of the population. Many Irish Protestants sided with the British, resulting in the conflict taking on the appearance of a sectarian civil war in many areas, with atrocities on both sides. A French army which landed in County Mayo in support of the rebels was overwhelmed by British and loyalist forces. The uprising was suppressed by British Crown forces with a death toll of between 10,000 and 30,000.
