Ripley Castle Day 5
Discover Yorkshire's Historic Landmark
Ripley Castle and Gardens, situated 3 miles from Harrogate in North Yorkshire on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, a historic attraction we are open to the public all year round and a visit to the Estate makes for a fascinating and entertaining day out, in a beautiful location.
Our history is one of political, military, religious and social turbulence, of plague and persecution, of renaissance, enlightenment and the industrial revolution. It is a tale of romance, courage, loyalty and recklessness.

Chris Butler The Seagull And The Skinhead
Here's April's song as part of posting a new and/or unreleased song each month during 2013. This song was written in 2013, has featured at my gigs so far this year and is a true story (sort of). It isn't an anti skinhead song. It is however an anti bullying song so if the cap fits - change it. We have a duty to protect those more vulnerable than ourselves whether they be sick, old, young, disabled, animals etc... Video/song recorded in Belper, Derbyshire 01/03/2013 with thanks to Phil Doleman

The Seagull And The Skinhead
Well, it's August time i'm in the Blackpool rain
but it's still great to be here again
and 'I wish you were here' all my postcards say
But not so much the stag parties
and the hens? well, they are more scary!
But the families having fun is always nice to see
So, when the sun comes out then so do we
for a walk on the beach or a paddle in the sea
Some go up the tower to see all there is to see
But me? Well, i took a walk on the prom
I got some chips and i got this song
So, let me tell you my story - it wont take long
Taking a break from the punk rock bands
In search of Blackpool's golden sands
was a skinhead and his girlfriend and their friends
He'd spent some money, he'd spent some time
on his hair, on his clothes, on his skinhead style
He felt real good right there on the golden mile
His girlfriend gazed into his eyes
She clutched his hand to say 'this is my guy'
In the Las Vegas of the north she'd won first prize
But things were about to take a downward turn
and i hope from this that some may learn
to have more respect for those who need our care
A seagull out walking along the prom
on the look-out for food and not doing any harm
got a shock and a Doc Marten boot up its arse
Well, his girlfriend giggled and so did his mates
because our hero, he is so brave
but there's a twist in the tale - Things just didn't go his way
The bird takes flight - well so would you!
But a gull has to do what a gull has to do
He turns in the air and he aims for the skinhead crew
Well, the skinhead's flustered and his face is all red
His hands are flapping above his head -
I think you and your mates have just lost your street cred!
It seems he's got more hair than he's got brains
He's as slow as the driving Blackpool rain
and i think that seagull shit on your jacket is going to stain!
The gull flies off with a triumphant cry
A defiant shrill that fills the sky
and a lesson to us all on the streets he did just occupy!
Defending ourselves against cowards and creeps
and bullies who pick on those they think weak
You'd be surprised what you can do with just a sharp beak!
Skinhead nil, Seagull one!

2013/14 Buxton 1-2 Ilkeston
Two 90th minute goals from Gary Ricketts sank a brave 9 man Buxton performance. The Bucks were 1-0 to the good after 55 minutes but 2 reds in a remarkable 2 minutes meant it was attack vs defence for the last half hour. Incredibly, it looked like Buxton would hold on only for Ricketts to say othewise

Frankenstein Audiobook ; or The Modern Prometheus (1818) by Mary Shelley | Audiobook with subtitles
Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is a novel written by the British author Mary Shelley. Shelley wrote the novel when she was 18 years old. The first edition was published anonymously in London in 1818, and this audiobook is read from that text. Shelley's name appeared on the revised third edition, published in 1831. The title of the novel refers to the scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who learns how to create life and creates a being in the likeness of man, but larger than average and more powerful. In modern popular culture, people have tended to refer to the Creature as Frankenstein (especially in films since 1931), despite this being the name of the scientist, and the creature being unnamed in the book itself. Frankenstein is a novel infused with elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement. It was also a warning against the over-reaching of modern man and the Industrial Revolution, alluded to in the novel's subtitle, The Modern Prometheus. The story has had an influence across literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories and films. It is arguably considered the first fully-realised science fiction novel and raises many issues still relevant to today's society. (Summary from wikipedia.org, adapted by Cori Samuel.)
