TOKYO to SAPPORO, HOKKAIDO | Our summer trip to Japan’s Northernmost Island
We fly from Tokyo to Sapporo, Hokkaido to explore Japan’s Northernmost and second largest Island. This is my first time travelling to Northern Japan and summer seemed like the perfect time to do it. Summer in Hokkaido is milder and less humid than on Japan’s main island. Sapporo is a vibrant and spacious capital of Northern Japan.
In this vlog we try some delicious vegan and vegetarian food local to Hokkaido, stay in a hotel that has a beautiful view over Sapporo, and explore Northern Japan’s largest city.
We decided to take a flight to Sapporo from Narita airport as that is the quickest way to get to Hokkaido. You can take a Shinkansen but if you are pressed for time then I recommend checking out some economy airlines that fly straight into Sapporo. The flight takes less than two hours and is often much cheaper than taking trains (unless you have. JR pass). We flew with Spring Japan and Vanilla Air.
The Sapporo hotel we stayed in was Premier Hotel Tsubaki Sapporo. We chose this hotel because it offered easy access to Sapporo Station, Susukino district and other Sapporo attractions.

TOKYO TRIP ???????? - Day 1 - Traveling to Tokyo, AirBNB house, Amazing Ramen, and a Japanese Pharmacy
We were in Tokyo for 7 days, and vlogged our whole trip! This is Day 1, where we journey from Narita Airport to our AirBNB house in western Tokyo. It was my first time being back in Japan, my home country, in 17 years!
For our first day, Marie and I were awake for about 21 hour straight. We spent many hours commuting... and were finally glad to check into our AirBNB in Hounancho, a quick 15 minute trip west of Shinjuku Station.
Once we dropped off our bags, we just wanted to get out and eat some real Japanese food, and what's better than some authentic Japanese ramen!
To answer many questions, no, I'm not Japanese. I am Korean-American. My mother is from Seoul. My father is from Chicago.
I was born and raised in Japan, and grew up on U.S. Navy bases there. My father was in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, which makes me a certified Navy brat. ^^
To be specific, I was born in Okinawa, lived in Yokosuka city (elementary & middle school), and Sasebo city (high school). I left in 1999 after finishing high school...

How about a pre trip to Japan?! | Future Travels | Japanese Garden | Vlog #13
Spent a few hours in the garden where we had our civil wedding ceremony 2 years ago. It feels surreal being back again. We wish we had more time shooting but as the hours go by, it has gotten hotter and humid. We had fun though & we enjoyed being here early cuz there weren't a lot of people.. There were actually more areas but we didn't get to go since it was getting hotter. We do hope y'all enjoy watching & see you on the the next vlog.
Thanks for watching!

A trip to see the seasonal beauty of Japan in it’s Northernmost Prefecture | Hokkaido
On our Hokkaido trip we went even further north to see the natural seasonal beauty of Japan. Hokkaido is Japan’s Northernmost prefecture and second largest island. Although Hokkaido is a popular travel destination in Winter, during Summer it becomes one of Japan’s most stunning natural beauty places and Japanese people and tourists travel to Hokkaido to see the changing seasons from all over Japan.
Hokkaido food is also full of flavour and colour. During Summertime you can get seasonal Lavender ice cream made from rich Hokkaido milk. Local Hokkaido farms create the finest quality of dairy products as well as seasonal vegetables and fruits. These are must try foods if you visit Hokkaido! In this Hokkaido, Japan vlog We tried Hokkaido ice cream and Hokkaido melon as well as Lavender Ramune soda, a Japanese drink with a seasonal, only in Hokkaido flavour!! It was delicious!! Angelina also tried Hokkaido milk and said it was very rich in flavour.
If you are visiting Hokkaido and planning your trip around this island, I strongly recommend visiting the Lavender fields. It is a seasonal natural wonder of Northern Japan!!!

Solo Trip to Japan: Strolling through Asakusa! | Japaniku episode 3 (Ikutree)
In this episode I make my way down to Asakusa, crossed over Sumida river and was surprised to find myself in the lift inside Tokyo Sky Tree for a breathtaking view of East Tokyo! Street food, Omikuji, temple at night... I'm sorry this one is so long but there was so much I wanted to share with you!!
Last October, I went on my very first solo trip all the way to my dream destination: Japan (!) with the firm intention of documenting my voyage as much as I could to share with you guys.
I hope that you'll enjoy discovering Japan through my lens and that I can motivate some of you to take that leap and to travel alone. If my shy bunny butt can do it, so can you! I'll be going from Tokyo through Osaka, Kyoto and Nara down to Hiroshima, Miyajima and Okunoshima before heading back to Tokyo but not without taking a brief day trip to Hakone before I fly back to Brussels.
I have TONS of footage to get through so bear with me and stay tuned for many more episodes of Japaniku!
Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions and/or feedback in the comments.

Osaka Japan Summer Festival 2016
If you ever wonder what a festival in Japan is like check it out.
I did not expect to see this in Kobe | Our trip to Kobe (and Osaka) Japan
We take a trip to Kobe, Japan for the first time, with a visit to Osaka. I did not expect to see this natural paradise in Kobe. It was my favourite place we visited during the Kobe and Osaka trip and I am so happy that we planned it into our itinerary. Japan is full of natural wonder beauty but I was surprised to find it in such a built up harbour city such as Kobe that is normally famous for Kobe beef and nightlife.
In this Kobe vlog we discovered a mountain of herbs, Nunobiki Herb Garden, one of the most beautiful and magical places I have been to in Japan and it looked like it was straight out of Violet Evergarden! It is a lesser known, hidden Kobe tourist spot. It was a natural beauty paradise overlooking the lively Japanese city. It is a must see and do thing in Kobe!
In Osaka city we walked around Dotonbori. This was Angelina’s first time in Osaka and we decided to do it as a side trip from Kobe. Dotonbori is the most famous tourist destination in Osaka. It is a lively Osaka district that is famous for the food, bright neon signs and nightlife.
If you are thinking of booking a hotel in Japan or elsewhere then you can get £15 off by using my link:
We stayed at the Hotel Okura Kobe and it iverlooked the Kobe Port Tower and Harbour. At night it had a beautiful view of the city!

Japanese Sumo Food: Eating Chankonabe Stew (ちゃんこ鍋) | Tokyo, Japan
Come join us for Japanese Sumo Food as we try eating Chankonabe Stew (ちゃんこ鍋) at Hananomai Ryokoku restaurant in Tokyo, Japan. This fascinating sumo meal is a nabemono one-pot dish as part of a weight-gain diet. Chankonabe contains dashi or chicken broth soup base with sake/mirin with chicken (skin left on), tofu, vegetables (daikon and bok choy) and other types of ingredients. It is healthy because it is protein rich and filling. If you're in Tokyo, Japan we'd recommend you try it! Here is everything you'll need to go and visit yourself.

Japanese Sumo Food: Eating Chankonabe Stew (ちゃんこ鍋) | Tokyo, Japan Travel Food Video Transcript:
Alright guys good morning so today we are having a Sumo themed day here in Tokyo. We are planning to take part in a few different Sumo themed activities so we've come to Rio Goku station and in this area they have a lot of restaurants where you can have a Sumo meal. This is like hearty heavy stew that Sumo wrestlers eat to put on weight. So we're going to a sumo restaurant. We're going to have Chankonabe Stew (ちゃんこ鍋) that hearty stew. Apparently the restaurant we are going to also puts on sumo wrestling performances. So hopefully the timing works out so that we can see sumo wrestlers in action.
Okay so we found the restaurant that specializes in Sumo food. It is called Hananomai Ryokoku and it is right outside the train station. It is actually underneath the tracks. So you can hear the train passing by and the first time Sam was like earthquake? Yeah.
It is going to be our first time to try this food as well. Yes. Sumo food.
Tempura.
So the food arrived super quickly. I know. Shockingly quick. Oh my. So we ordered two separate sets.
Sam went for the Chankonabe which is the sumo stew to put on weight and we got the chicken one and it comes with like chicken skin. Oh yeah.
That is a protein heavy meal. Big time. We even got an egg there. What else do you have? There if some tofu. Yeah.
You even got sashimi. That was a cool surprise.
I feel like this is for rice. Or maybe it is for your soup. Where is your rice. The rice is in here. Lift that up.
So the whole idea is that you eat the stew with rice and beer so that you are getting lots of calories into your system.
So it looks really good. We're going to let that cook for a while. It is a high calorie meal and it is also a high protein meal as well.
And for me I got the tempura set with sashimi and rice. I have some tofu with a bit of ginger. This looks like a pickled radish. I have sashimi.
This is my miso soup. You got miso. A little salad here.
We came for the sumo food. That is right.
Alright guys so finished lunch and we were able to figure out that there is no sumo wrestling show today.
The price was about 2,700 Yen. I would say just under $25 US dollars for two people. $12.50 per person.
It was a lot of food. Very filling. Cool ambience. It is a beautiful restaurant inside.
I also found the service to be really good. It was starting to get very busy in there by the time we left. Big lunch crowds.
And from here we're going to head over to the Sumo Museum so that is coming up next.
This is part of our Travel in Japan video series showcasing Japanese food, Japanese culture and Japanese cuisine.
