Twin Coast Bike and Cycle Trail - Northland
Twin Coast Cycle and Bike Trail - Northland - Bay of Islands to Hokianga
Cycle or walk across unspoilt private land -- through old railway tunnels, over bridges, around lakes and rivers, and through historic towns. Come for an hour, come for a day -- there is plenty to see and do along the way. The trail tells the story of an emerging nation, capturing the heritage of both Māori and pioneer settlers.
Twin Coast Cycle Trail New Zealand Okaihau to Horeke
My favourite part of the trail from Okaihau to Horeke which is about 28km. Boardwalk through the Mangroves near Horeke is a really beautiful part, but it's not filmed, because my camera has run out of battery.

Twin Coast Cycle Trail Aug 2018
What a pretty cycle trail from Opua in the Bay of Islands to Horeke in the Hokianga Harbour - 2 days - 88km. An awesome weekend's cycle trail!
Twin Coast Cycle Trail - new business in Paihia
MBIE administers central government funding for the Great Rides of Nga Haerenga, the New Zealand Cycle Trail.
We travelled to the Far North to see how the Twin Coast Cycle Trail is going, and caught up with local Jonny Martin.
Jonny and his partner have started a thriving business in the Bay of Islands, catering to trail users with bike hire and shuttle services.
Twin Coast Cycle Trail
Weekend trip doing the Twin Coast Cycle Trail. Day 1 was from Kaikohe to Horeke because it is downhill, and Day 2 from Kaikohe to Opua. Awesome scenery and a great cycle trip. Highly recommended.

Twin Coast Cycle Trail Day 2 Okaihua to Horeke
Choose to head from Okaihau to Horeke as this was mostly down hill. While waiting at Utakere picnic area noticed 3 couples doing trail in the opposite direction - in a short time 2 of the couples had already returned after encountering the steep climb.
The pub at Horeke makes a very welcome place to finish the ride.
Of the 3 days riding this was the one most enjoyed by the cyclists - might also explain why it was the busyist.
Watch out for the food pinching chickens at Utakere picnic area :-)

Pou Herenga Tai - Twin Coast Cycle Trail travels from the famously beautiful Bay of Islands to the remote and picturesque Hokianga Harbour, or vice versa. Due to its sub-tropical climate - it can be ridden all year round - hence the name “winterless north”.
We recommend to take a half day ride
The trail is 87 km and is divided into four sections and can be ridden in either direction.
Opua to Kawakawa - 11km, grade 1 is what we recommend on our 8-Day Taste of NZ Tour.
Kawakawa to Kaikohe -34km, Grade - 1 - 2
Kaikohe to Okaihau - 14km, Grade - 1 - 2
Okaihau to Horeke - 28km, Grade - 2 - 3
Story boards along the way bring to life the history and stories of the local people. Visit the Far North to discover the birthplace of the nation.

Twin Coast Cycle Trail NZ
We completed the middle section of the Twin Coast Cycle trail, 48km's from Okaihau to Kawakawa.
(*Tip, the trail consists of many small 'gates' to go through, which can make it difficult if you are carrying luggage or a trailer behind your bike. We came across a few different people that were struggling as they had to either remove every item of luggage to get through the gates, or lift trailers over the gates, which is not easy)
Twin Coast Adventures, Northland, NZ
Thanks to Jade and the team at Twin Coast Adventures for the opportunity to put together this promo of the cycle trail featuring Rahiti, Kami and some stunning Northland scenery.
Twin Coast Adventures are based in Kaikohe which is the perfect spot to tackle the ride. They have a huge selection of new bikes and gear as well as shuttles to pick you up and even a motel to rest your weary backside! I even got to try my first e-bike which was a very cool experience.

Excitor Fast Boat: Paihia, Bay of Islands, New Zealand
March 2011: Excitor trip (fast boat) from Paihia to the Hole in the Rock, Bay of Islands, New Zealand. The video is a little shaky having been joined together from several hand-held recordings, but the high-speed boat ride was certainly a very exhilarating experience.
