Foxton Locks - British Narrow Boats & Canals (Foxton, Leicestershire, UK)
We decided to visit Foxton Locks! It's a really cool place in Leicestershire where you can see a staircase of canal locks, enjoy the sun and drink at the pub! There are also shops nearby too!
-------------
Foxton Locks (grid reference SP691895) are ten canal locks consisting of two staircases each of five locks, located on the Leicester line of the Grand Union Canal about 5 km west of the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough. They are named after the nearby village of Foxton.
They form the northern terminus of a 20-mile summit level that passes Husbands Bosworth, Crick and ends with the Watford flight
Alongside the locks is the site of the Foxton Inclined Plane, built in 1900 to resolve the operational restrictions imposed by the lock flight. It was not a commercial success and only remained in full-time operation for ten years. It was dismantled in 1926, but a project to re-create it commenced in the 2000s, since the locks remain a bottleneck for boat traffic.

018 - Leicestershire Ring Narrowboat Cruise Day 5
In which we continue our cruise around the Leicestershire Ring. Starting out from the outskirts of Burton on Trent, and finishing at the exaggeratedly named Weston on Trent (it's actually quite a distance from the river).
Elsan facilities with benefits, scarily big locks, and some more rain (for a change).

We leave the peace and quiet of Mount Sorrel and cruise to Leicester. Landscape changing from rural to urban with lots of remnants from Leicesters industrial past very evident.
Michael manages to squeeze in some touristing with a trip to the National Space Centre.

Evening Cruise Along the Grand Union Canal
There is something special about cruising as the sun starts to make it's way back down to the horizon. In this video we had decided to spring a surprise on our friends aboard The Pride of Nuffield (they were expecting us the following day at Heyford Fields) and take an evening cruise aboard Hannah the Narrowboat from Gayton Marina up to where we knew they were moored although the SD card was full before we got to them!
The low sun casting reflections on the canal are, in my view, pretty spectacular as is the silhouetted trees in places. Shot with a GoPro Hero 4 Session mounted on our short aerial pole gives a great viewpoint.
I wrote the little tune that goes with the video whist sitting in the cratch with nothing more than a MacBook Pro, an MPK Mini keyboard and a Jamstik+ midi guitar.

34. Cold & Icy Ashby Canal
We head north on the Ashby Canal. Travelling through the town of Hinckley we pass many marinas and rows of moored boats. After a cold night, we head on. However the further we went, the thicker the ice got until it was very difficult to turn as the ice seemed to dictate which direction to travel in.
