Places to see in ( Turin - Italy ) Via Roma
Via Roma is the most impressive street and one of the main streets of the historic center of Turin . It joins the central Piazza Castello to the historic Porta Nuova station and includes along its route Piazza CLN and the famous Piazza San Carlo , ending in Piazza Carlo Felice . Oriented on the north-south axis, it runs parallel to the Roman pattern of ancient Julia Augusta Taurinorum.
The Via Nuova or Contrada Nuova as it was baptized when it opened at the end of the 16th century was built by the Umbrian architect Ascanio Vittozzi , at the behest of Duke Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy : he measured ten meters in width . The street soon became one of the main axes of the city. It is mentioned in a curious provision by Carlo Emanuele II of Savoia , October 29, 1672
The marked commercial vocation of the street can be seen from the almost total absence of pedestrian or vehicular accesses of the buildings (built on the side streets), in order to give more space to commercial activities. Since its renewal, the street has in fact become one of the main shopping streets of the city, under the characteristic arcades, where elegant cafés and above all boutiques and commercial chains of clothing stores find their place. The total length is 607 meters, with 14.80 meters wide, porches excluded, counting also which you can reach almost 27 meters.

Top Things to Do in Turin - Piazza San Carlo, Via Roma, Via Garibaldi - A Guided Tour
Via Garibaldi and Via Roma are the principal shopping streets of Turin: the first, pedestrian-only, traces the ancient Roman Decumanus and offers a rich choice not only of shops, but also of bars, restaurants, ice cream parlours, pizzerias and clubs for all budgets. Meanwhile the seventeenth century Via Roma, elegant and arcaded, leads us to the so-called “Living room of Turin”: Piazza San Carlo. Extremely elegant with an intentionally symmetrical architecture, this square will amaze you with the balance and uniformity of the buildings that surround it.

VIA ROMA, GALLERIA SAN FEDERICO E PIAZZA CASTELLO A TORINO - 9.12.2012
