JC’s Road Trip – Vietnam Pt 4 – Da Lat-01
We are in a different Vietnamese city this time, Da Lat. In part 4 we will continue to cover what it costs and what it is like to live in Vietnam. This time in Da Lat. We will try to answer the question; can a category 1 RIPper (Retiree In Paradise) live well in Vietnam?

Well I am off finding out. We will see what the upsides and downsides are to living in a Communist country. This video is a little intro and some comments about Vietnam in general and also Da Lat.
Đà Lạt, or Dalat (pop. 209,301 as of 2010, of which about 185,509 are urban inhabitants), is the capital of Lâm Đồng Province in Vietnam. The city is located 1,500 m (4,900 ft) above sea level
The city’s temperate weather stands in contrast to Vietnam's otherwise tropical climate. With its year-round cool weather, Da Lat supplies temperate agriculture products for all over Vietnam.
When Da Lat was part of the French territory of Cochinchina, the French endowed the city with villas and boulevards, and its Swiss charms remain today.
Da Lat's year-round temperate weather, standing in contrast to central & southern Vietnam’s otherwise-tropical climate, has led it to be nicknamed the “City of eternal spring”.

???? Driving a Motorcycle In Da Lat | Retire Cheap Vietnam 10
There are lots of questions I get regarding Da Lat and Vietnam in general. So I thought I'd do a Q&A and answer some. Let's talk renting apartments and motorcycles, things to do so you don't get bored, getting a Vietnamese drivers license, and more info! Also I'll give a demonstration driving a motorcycle in Da Lat.
Da Lat is quickly becoming our favorite place in Vietnam. I think Da Lat is a good place for living full time as a retiree. I feel Vietnam has a lot to offer RIPpers (Retirees In Paradise) so let's see more about living in Vietnam and about the people in this continuing series.

Backpacking Vietnam Part 11: Tourism Gone Bad in Da Lat
Da Lat even smelled like Washington! That was a fun surprise but the rest of the time at Prenn Waterfalls was well, I think the video stands alone on that subject. If you find yourself in Da Lat, we highly recommend you go to the Crazy House though that was crazy fun and of course we lost count of how many times we made bad jokes that ended in that's crazy.

Script:
It was the 6th day of our journey and, after the relentless pace of the previous week we were excited to have a day off from riding to explore our new surroundings. The first of three stops of the day was Prenn falls. To say our experience at Prenn was odd would be an understatement. The falls themselves were neat enough, but we soon found the place to be a depressing tourist trap packed with people taking selfies and having their portraits taken in ridiculous outfits.
By itself, this isn't a big deal, but we started to really get the creeps when we found the animal riding.
Built as a personal project by the female architect Dang Viet Nga, the crazy house opened to the public in 1990 to a mixed reception. With a design inspired by the natural surroundings of Dalat, the main part of the house consists of a 5 story structure that resembles a banyan tree. The house is equipped with 10 guest rooms, each with a corresponding symbolic animal theme. For example, the ant room is meant to represent the hard working Vietnamese, while the eagle in the eagle room is meant to be big and strong like Americans and.. as for the cement boobs? I have no idea what that’s supposed to represent
Working from paintings rather than blueprints, the construction of the Crazy house is done by local craftsmen and continues to this day. This fact adds to the weirdness of the experience as you’ll find yourself continually running into unprotected construction zones.
Another defining characteristic of the house are the many narrow winding staircases that adorn the outer part of the structure. Traversing the maze of winding steps high above the ground with absolutely nothing to stop you should you fall is actually kind of freaky.
As unfinished and dangerous as it may be, the crazy house was easily the funnest part of the day, and well worth the visit.

Crazy House (Hang Nga Villa) - Things to do in Da Lat, Vietnam
Crazy House (Hang Nga Guesthouse) is not your average hotel.
It's located in Da Lat, Vietnam and has 10 nature-themed rooms that are unlike any other.
While it's a hotel it's also a huge art gallery, and is open during the day for visitors to wander through (for a small fee). While I didn't stay there, based on the hour or so I was there, I feel it wouldn't be a relaxing stay. But, I expect people staying there are probably out exploring the city while the place opens up to tourists. Staying there for a night would be an experience for sure but it's probably not for everyone.
Crazy House has gained world recognition for its unique architecture and has been named one of the world’s ten most bizarre buildings.
The place can get busy but I found it was still easy to branch off from everyone else. I'd aim to be there for about an hour.
If you're thinking about going, you should!
