Tham Pra cave Chiangrai
In 1484 a governor of Chiang Rai, Thao Mui, made a Buddha image in the cave and provided eight families of slaves for its service and a regular income for its upkeep. Located in the side of a small hill, within a small and secluded garden on the banks of the River Kok in a small park about 5 km upstream from Chiang Rai town. The cave is signed as 'Buddha Images Cave' and appears to be on the itinerary of many package tours. A flight of steps leads up the 5 m to the entrance. There is a large Buddha statue ahead of you and a second chamber, with more images, is on the left. This second chamber doubles back to a second entrance about 10 m from the first entrance. The hill is covered with profuse flowering trees and shrubs.

I guided me somewhere that there was a place to show after meals. I drove a truck and climbed along the bend in the village for about 10 minutes. It was an observatory overlooking the landscape of the village. It is a place to catch the footsteps of people coming to the panoramic view. There is another reason why this place has become famous. I have come here because of the 13 cave boys who were rescued after the disappearance. I took pictures here before going to the cave. So I think people are finding a lot of places here.

Monkey Temple, Chiang Rai
Monkeys playing at Tham Pla Cave, aka Monkey Temple and Fish Cave
Chiang Dao Cave Temple, Thailand
Chiang Dao Cave Temple, Northern Thailand, February 3, 2006
It takes only about an hour to reach Chiang Dao by car from Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand, but on arrival it is as though you have travelled back in time. The road to Chiang Dao Mountain and cave provides some of Thailand's most beautiful scenery. The mountain is the third highest in the country, and the cave complex is said to extend more than 12 kilometres (7 miles) into the mountain; there are five main areas, of which only two are illuminated.
Near the cave entrance is a large white chedi surmounted by numerous little towers, and a spring-fed pond, home to the temple fish. The sacred caves are filled with Buddha images and other ancient statuary belonging to Wat Tham Chiang Dao. Probably the most beautiful sights are the formations of crystals from thousands of years of water dripping through the rocks. There is a Thai legend that says the Tham Chiang Dao served as the home of a 'reu-sii' (hermit sage) for a thousand years.
We had no idea that this astonishing cave temple held such impressive treasures and only expected to see natural beauty such as we had experienced in the Meramec Caverns in Missouri some years before. Making our way into the darkness we had gone only a few steps inside the entrance when we began to see ancient relics adorning the walls and ledges in what is really a Burmese temple built inside the caves over 1,700 years ago by Burmese monks. At the furthest reaches of this section of the caves lay a larger-than-life statue of Buddha covered with the traditional orange satin drapery. The cave formations are indescribeably beautiful, and as there are no barriers of any kind, we were amazed that there appeared to be no vandalism or graffiti. Join us as we explore this awesome place.
We lingered longer in the cave with our guide than the others on this daytrip, not only because of its coolness but to appreciate the rock and crystal formations and the antiquities it contained.
Finally we emerged into the sunshine and viewed the area surrounding the pond, in which many more ancient relics were displayed.
Thanks for watching this slide show of the Chiang Dao Cave Temple in Northern Thailand.

The vital role of technology in the Thai cave mission
Twelve boys and their coach trapped in a cave deep underground with dwindling air and the danger of being flooded by rising water levels. How did a determined international team find and rescue the boys? How did sophisticated geographical information systems (GIS), IoT sensors and 3D simulations assist the rescuers?
Tham Luang Nang Non is six mile long underground cave complex in Thailand’s Chiangrai province. A boy’s soccer team was reported missing in July 2018. Thai Navy SEAL divers' found them in a cave that could only be reached after a six hour underground journey in the dark, swimming through narrow tunnels and climbing boulders. An international rescue teams with experts from Thailand, China, Japan, Australia, the US and Britain were able to rescue them.
How the boys were located
Cave maps that depicted twists and turns and cave dimensions helped divers orient themselves within the cave’s difficult passages as well as mark their progress. Divers began laying guide ropes and deploying spare oxygen tanks along the path. The map helped divers navigate through the maze of passageways and chambers and to mark all the dead-ends they checked. They progressed through the cave network trying to find the team. On the surface, the Thai Royal Army used topographic maps of the terrain and cave location to search for entrances. The recent high resolution aerial photos by Royal Thai Survey Department provided surface-level details. Engineers began to explore the 3D cross-section maps to calculate the distance to the center of the cave from multiple angles, hoping they could find a place to drill. Nine days into the search, British cave diving experts located the team gathered on a muddy shelf more than two miles from the cave entrance and a mile underground.
Technical challenges
Mapping the underground cave and passages to plan the rescue operation
Monitoring oxygen levels to prevent the boys and rescuers dying from hypoxia
Tracking changing water levels and currents in the underground tunnels
Transmitting data from deep underground
Esri ArcGIS was one of the apps used by the rescue team. Some apps and sensors described below are suitable for such use cases and included only for reference purposes.
3D mapping of caves
Thailand Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) obtained cave data from the Expedition Thai-Maros, a French-led surveying effort that recorded the extent and cross section of the cave in Dr. Martin Ellis’ book, The Caves of Thailand added details that were translated and shared. It provided the dimension of the passage cross-section that guided the dive team in searching for the kids and coach.
Seeing and interacting with geospatial data in 3D provides insights that just aren't possible in 2D such as understanding the sub-surface terrain. It was vital for the rescuers to know the size of narrow tunnels as they had to to squeeze through narrow passages with oxygen tanks for the boys. Collectively, the data gave the mapping team what they

The Temple contains a Reclining Buddha image, Phra Buddha Bantomnimit , carved on the rock. Dragon temple in thailand วัดบ้านถ้ำ amazing Wat Ban Tham
Wat Baan Tham is located at Khao Noi Sub District, Tha Muang District, Kanchanaburi. It is only five kilometers far from Wat Tham Sua if you take Mae Nam Mae Klong road. The stairs which will bring you to the cave give you a feel like you are walking through a mouth of a dragon. There is one stalactite inside the cave which somehow looks like a women body. It was named after Bua Kli who is a wife of Khun Paen in a legend Thai folklore, Khun Chang Khun Phaen.
Wat Baan Tham is an ancient temple which carried down for many generations. The rear area of the temple lies next to the mountains while the front lies next to Mae Klong river. There is one beautiful strand near the entrance of the temple. The mountain where Wat Baan Tham stands on is 200 meters high. The mountain is wide and long to the north western side and ends at Khao Laem and Khao Tok Tham Mangkon Thong Pak. The cave is the place where Phra Buddha Chinnarat and the stalactite of Bua Kli placed.
It has been said in the history that this temple was first built in the reign of Sukhothai. The cave was discovered by a rich man. Later, he decided to invite Luang Po Thong, the first abbot, to stay over here as the cave looks nice with the winds blowing all day long. Luang Po Thong was a very well-known monk and he pet one of a Magpie bird and taught it about how to speak. Thus, presently, you can still spot Magpie birds around the cave and the surrounding area.
Sacred objects and places which any visitors should not miss at any reasons:
- The old Buddhist sanctuary which is where the Buddha image in the attitude of meditation stays together with Mokkallana and Saributr statues.
- The new Buddhist sanctuary which is where the imitate of Phra Buddha Chinnarat, that was made at Wat Che Pa Khaow, Phitsanulok, installed.
- Tham Ku Ha Mangkorn Sawan or Tham Bua Kli where the holy yet well-known Phra Buddha Chinnarat installed.
- Many more caves await you to discover such as Tham Man Vichitr, Tham Khun Paen, Tham Dok Jok, Tham Dusit, Tham Muen Han, Tham Nang Nual and Tham Nang Norn.
If you reach at the peak of the mountain, you will be impressed by the stunning views of greenish mountains and trees which can somehow take your breath away.

!!***WARNING*** - DISTURBING IMAGES/VIDEO !!
Do NOT watch if you are sensitive to disturbing images or if you are under 13 years old.
This Hell Temple in San Sai, is one of a few Hell Temples in Thailand depicting the Buddhist vision of Hell. (Hell, in it's loosest terms)
No serene images of meditiation and harmony for you here (well actually, there is later on in the temple, but only a small part of it). Instead you are faced with the punishment of your sins committed on earth, in all it's gory forms.
Tortured souls writhe in agony as they are put through horrific ordeals by grotesque demons. For additional effect you can listen to horror sounds and watch moving parts and flashing lights, for the cost of ten baht per display. So take plenty of ten baht coins for the slot machines dotted around the temple grounds, if you want to immerse in the full effect.
The signs at each display are only in Thai, but there is no mistaking what crime has been committed. It becomes a unified language with these depictions and very clear as to what the meaning is.
An interesting temple and only around 15km / 30 minutes from the centre of Chiang Mai.

Chiang Rai 2009 Thailand
The city was founded by King Mangrai in 1262 and became the capital of the Mangrai dynasty. However, it lost this status soon after to a new city built by Mangrai at Chiang Mai. Subsequently, Chiang Rai was conquered by Burma and remained under Burmese rule for several hundred years. It was not until 1786 that Chiang Rai became Chiang Mai vassal. After Siam or Thailand annexed Chiang Mai in 1899 Chiang Rai was proclaimed a province of Thailand in 1933.
In 1432 during the reign of King Sam Fang Kaen of Mangrai dynasty (1402-1441) the Phra Kaeo, or Emerald Buddha, the most revered Buddha statue, was discovered in Chiang Rai when an earthquake split the Chedi at Wat Phra Kaeo of Chiang Rai City. The beautiful jade figure was then seen concealed within.
In 1992, the City Pillar was moved from Wat Klang Wiang to Wat Phra That Doi Chom Thong, where it is known as Sadue Mueang (Thai: สะดือเมือง), the Navel or Omphalos of the City.
