We are talking about dozens or hundreds of buildings, specialists sometimes argue about this (number). But the key factor is not just the quantity, but also the coherence of this (constructivist) space.

6. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Igor Yankov, Historian:
Here, the creation of new world was taking place through these functional structures. Here, we can see a living area of different quality. And we can see various social services detached: that's a cafeteria, that's a club, that's a bathhouse, that's a laundry, that's a kindergarten and so on, and so on.

14. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Ildar Zalessky, Tour Guide:
Why some (managing) companies do not want to let us into the Chekists' Town so we can show and tell about it? Because if you look at the ceiling and these old columns, you can see the condition they are in. Professional constructors who followed me through the Chekists' Town said looking at this (ceiling), that for 30-40 years it will be staying. After 50 years, it will collapse.

Here was some sort of dining, sitting room where guests could be received. Or a workplace could be located here. Then a transitional area in this part, here is ventilation, where a kitchen board was, so the place for cooking. And there was a bedroom where a bed or two were and some wardrobe, which could be under these stairs. And indeed, here was everything for living.

What is Interesting in the city?
There are a lot of places of interest in Ekaterinburg - it has a unique mixture of different architectural, historical, and cultural rarities, which may never be repeated. More than 60 monuments of history and culture are located in the city, and 43 of them are considered to be national monuments because of their special significance. That is why Ekaterinburg can claim the formal status as Russia's most historical city.
At present, Ekaterinburg is one of Russia's biggest industrial centres. It's enterprises produce industrial goods for heavy machinery and chemical plant construction, for transportation, and military purposes.
Ekaterinburg is not very old, but over the course of its 280-year history, it has proven itself to be a special and even unique city - not only by it's geographical location, but also by a role as one of the founders of Russian industry. The heart of Ekaterinburg is its dam, which permitted the initial development of the city's industrial base. It was first erected in 1723 and has been reconstructed twice since - now it is recognized as an industrial monument of the 18th century.
Unfortunately, very few buildings of the old factory area have been preserved. Those that do, house the Museum of History, Architecture, and Technology of the Urals, and the Natural Museum - both of which are located in the so-called Historical Park. The oldest building of Ekaterinburg, which dates from 1764 and recently reconstructed, is also situated here. At present this is the Fine Arts Museum. Ekaterinburg of the 18th century was a wooden city, however, the city's first buildings of stone construction also appeared here during this period. At most these were administrative buildings - for example, the Main Board of the mining factories, where the Urals Conservatory is located now.
In the late 18th and the early 19th centuries a new architectural style - classicism, influenced Ekaterinburg landscapes. The palace on Voznesenskaya Hill, with its luxurious park, is the most famous example of this style. Many churches and chapels made the city's panorama very beautiful and picturesque. In the beginning of the 20th century there were about 50 churches, of which only 6 still stand today.
There are quite a few buildings in the constructivist style within the city - typical of this are such examples as the Main Post Office, the Uralskij Rabochij (Ural Worker) printing house, the movie studio, the famous White Tower, the Dinamo recreational centre, etc.
The Soviet period brought new trends to Ekaterinburg's architecture - luxury and rationalism, which reflected the influence both of ideology and asceticism. New tendencies in the development of world architecture have also affected the city. Some of the most well known structures of this time include the Military Headquarters, the Ural Great Polytechnic University, the Railroad Administrative Building, and the Philharmonic Theatre.
The city's history is full of events -many expeditions to Siberia, Central Asia and the Far East passed through Ekaterinburg.
The city was visited by many Russian tsars and members of their families.
The first Russian president, Boris Yeltsin lived and worked here during the 1960s and 1970s.
Among the many monuments in Ekaterinburg are the monuments to Bolshevik Malyshev and The Black Tulip - Russian soldiers during the Afghan campaign named the aeroplanes which delivered the coffins of their dead comrades back to Russia The Black Tulips.
There are so many remarkable places in the 280-year-old Ekaterinburg, that all cannot possibly be described in this small web site. This brief information is intended to provoke the interest of Ekaterinburg's inhabitants and guests of the Urals to the history of our remarkable city.

Panorama City PARK by J&T Real Estate
Pod oknami najvyšších obytných veží na Slovensku Panorama City vznikne park, ktorý bude slúžiť ako oddychová zóna. Návrh parku vychádza z funkčného rozdelenia priestoru na námestie a park. Tieto funkčné plochy reagujú na budúce potreby užívateľov - obyvateľov bytových domov Panorama City, zamestnancov administratívnych objektov Tower 115 a Panorama Business i ostatných obyvateľov hlavného mesta.
Park bude charakteristický organickými tvarmi chodníkov s rôznymi vstupmi a verejným detským ihriskom.

Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Concert Hall by Zaha Hadid Architects
Zaha Hadid Architects have been selected by the jury of the international design competition to build the new Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Concert Hall in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The city’s acclaimed Ural Philharmonic Orchestra has performed in more than 20 countries and collaborates with renowned artists worldwide.
Echoing the physical aspects of sound waves, the design of the new Philharmonic Concert Hall is based on the properties of musical sound resonance creating wave vibrations in a continuous smooth surface. The design re-interprets these physical acoustic properties to define spaces for the auditoria that are suspended within the canopy, appearing to float above the new civic plaza that is both the lobby of the Philharmonic Concert Hall and an enclosed urban square.
Providing a 1,600-seat Concert Hall and a 400-seat Chamber Music Hall of the highest acoustic standards, these new auditoria are nestled within the surface deformations of the suspended canopy; liberating the lobbies from obstructions to open this space as a vibrant new gathering place for the local community. The lobby serves not only as an introduction to the world of symphony music, but also as a welcoming public plaza for all members of its local community. Source by Zaha Hadid Architects. Info project

Vladivostok - Moscow (May 17 - June 2, 2016)
Vladivostok to Moscow. --- Trans-Siberian Railway Trip, May 17 to June 2, 2016
Our journey started from Vladivostok. Yul Brynner who stared in The King and I was born here; His statue is in front of the house he was born.
The second stop was Irkutsk. The city's old quarter reminded me the scenes from the movie Doctor Zhivago with it's traditional wooden houses and the old trams. As an admirer of the Decembrists and their women, we visited Volkonsky and Trubestskoy's houses. One could tell the owners lived rather extravagant life during their time in the houses. White Army Admiral Alexander Kolchak's statue stands in front of Znamensky Monastery, at the spot he was executed. The monastery also has tomb of Grigory Shelekhov, who claimed Alaska for Russia, and that of the Decembrist wife Ekaterina Trubetskaya.
From Irkutsk, we reached to Lake Baikal via Listvyanka; The amazing beauty of this Lake has to be seen to believe!
Moving on from Irkutsk, the train stopped at Novosibirsk for about 50 minutes, just enough time to taxi to the city center to see the dramatic Lenin statue with flowing cloak.
The industrial city Yekaterinburg is famous for the Cathedral on the Blood, which was built at the location the last Tsar and his family were murdered. We took a local train and then walked for about 40 minutes, along a beautiful, primeval forest, to get to Ganina Yama, visiting the site the bodies of the Romanov family were secretly disposed of originally.
Next, we stopped at Kazan. Ivan the Terrible conquered the Tatars' capital in 1552. Russia's icon, the St. Basil's Cathedral of Moscow was built to commemorate the capture of Kazan. Like Yekaterinburg, Kazan is a financially well to do city compared with other places we visited along the route.
Another over night train took us to Nizhny Novgorod, which was the first of the six golden ring cities we visited during the trip: Nizhny Novgorod, Vladmir, Suzdal, Rostov-Velikiy, Sergiev Posad and Yaroslavl. Rostov-Velikiy is my favorite. It has an unparalleled view of the Kremlin from lake Nero. We also witnessed a Sunday church parade and a Mass in Rostov. Suzdal stands out as an unspoiled village town. Nizhny and Yaroslavl are actually very large cities, their top attractions are the peaceful and scenic river sides. Vladmire and Sergiev Posad both have some most photogenic scenes.
We saved Moscow for the last. Indeed, Moscow proves to be worthy of the capital of Russia! There are simply too many fascinating things to see! The metro is handy, on top of the fact itself is a bona-fide museum.
We visited many Orthodox churches during the trip. Many have magnificent interior. The choral music were serene, peaceful and simply amazing!
The monuments in the country are many. Don't miss Victory park, and all-Russia exhibition center, both of Moscow. The monuments in these two locations are just awe inspiring!
We took the west bound trains for the journey. The east bound direction is more popular with leisure travelers. We had to change trains in each location mentioned above except Novosibirsk. Long distance tickets were either purchased ahead of time ( or at the time of travel in the station. Mid to late May is the shoulder season, it's relatively easy to get train tickets. Local train tickets were easily bought on site.
Train station in big cities usually has resting room with single/double/dorm types and clean linen, charged by the hour. We stayed in such a resting room in Irkutsk as we got there in the early morning. The room was clean, quite and rather spacious.
In May of 2009, I visited Saint Petersburg. Please see the video for the visit:

Beauty of Saint-Petersburg, Russia / সেন্ট পিটার্সবার্গ, রাশিয়া.
History of Saint-Petersburg,
Founded by Tsar Peter the Great in 1703 as Russia’s “Window on Europe”, St. Petersburg is Russia’s second largest city and bears the unofficial status of the country’s cultural capital and the most European city. The city is a hub of cultural, historical and architectural landmarks, famous for its harmonious mix of western European and Russian architecture and its many waterways, which are inseparable from St. Petersburg’s panorama. Many of the city’s most famed architectural sites stretch along the Neva’s historic embankments. Moreover, the bridges and natural canals of the river have earned St. Petersburg the nickname “Venice of the North”. Architecturally it ranks as one of the most splendid and congenial cities of Europe. Its historic district was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1990.
Since its founding St. Petersburg has played a vital role in Russian history. For two centuries (1712-1918) it was the capital of the Russian Empire. In 1914 Russia entered the First World War on the side of the West Allies. The German-sounding name of St. Petersburg was changed to the more Slavonic Petrograd. In 1924 after the October Revolution and moving the capital back to Moscow, Petrograd was renamed Leningrad.
The city is also remembered for its fierce defense while besieged during the World War II. The city lived under the siege for nine hundred days from September 08 1941 to the January 27 1944. Over a million people lost their lives during the siege.
After being slightly neglected by the Communist Party, revival of the city began in 1991 when voters elected to restore the original name oа St. Petersburg.
Touristic and cultural information about the city
Today St. Petersburg is Russia's second-largest city after Moscow, more than five million inhabitants in 2016, and an important Russian port on the Baltic Sea. It is politically incorporated as a federal subject (a federal city)
Saint Petersburg is a major trade gateway, financial and industrial center of Russia specialising in oil and gas trade, shipbuilding yards, aerospace industry, radio and electronics, software and computers; machine building, heavy machinery and transport, including tanks and other military equipment, mining, instrument manufacture, ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy (production of aluminium alloys), chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, publishing and printing, food and catering, wholesale and retail, textile and apparel industries, and many other businesses.
