Traverse City: It's Wine Time!
Most people don’t pair Michigan and wine, but Traverse City in the north of the state, has more than 40 wineries growing 57 different varietals. Located on the 45th parallel—like the famous wine regions of France and Italy—this region provides the perfect microclimate for creating a delicious vintage.
Fall is an especially popular time to tour the vineyards—you can see the grapes being pressed and gape at the gorgeous colors—but summer is just as great with its forever days and the annual Leland Wine and Food Festival.

Jackson, Michigan Wine Tasting
A few weeks ago, we picked up our kids from summer camp in Southeastern Michigan and took the opportunity to visit a few wineries near Jackson. All three wineries are members of the Pioneer Wine Trail.
Lone Oak Vineyard Estate is Southeast Michigan's oldest and largest commercial vineyard, with 12 European grape varieties on a 25 acre site, on the same latitude as the border of Southern France and Northern Spain.
Sandhill Crane Vineyards were our next stop - the winery, tasting room, and café is tucked in among their vineyards in eastern Jackson county. They are currently the only vineyard in SE Michigan to be verified under the Farm*A*Syst program for good environmental stewardship and also make several wines that benefit local nonprofit organizations.
Last but not least, was Chateau Aeronautique Winery - the theme of the Winery is the airpark lifestyle ~ flying, vintage airplanes, and living in a home with hangar on a grass runway surrounded by forests. Chateau Aeronautique Winery was founded on the ideals of creating fine wines from Michigan grapes and offering those wines for tasting in a beautiful, relaxing setting. They also offer the best wine tasting souvenir glasses we've seen to date - an actual full-sized glass!

Traverse City Whiskey Co Straight Bourbon Port Barrel Finish Tasting and Review.
Matt, Sarra, and Will review the Traverse City Whiskey Co Straight Bourbon Whiskey Port Barrel Finish which comes in at 86 proof. Their slogan is The Whiskey of the North.
This Traverse City Bourbon was a donation from the Traverse City Whiskey Co Distillery in Traverse City Michigan when I visited them this past summer in June with no strings attached. Pete their project manager there took great care of us and we really appreciate the donation. If you are ever in the Traverse City area I highly recommend visiting them. They have a few tasting rooms throughout the state as well which you can find their locations on their website.

Michigan's transformation into a wine destination
Michigan has established itself as a wine destination, and Michigan State University has played a pivotal role in all aspects of the industry's growth.
As Michigan's leaves hit peak color, residents and tourists alike travel the state snapping photos of blazing trees and visiting the growing number of vineyards. Today, Michigan is ranked as the nation's fourth-largest grape producer with a burgeoning industry of wine-grape growers and vineyards. But back in the 1970s, the majority of the state's vineyards were dedicated to juice-grape production.
Traverse City Brew Bus
Check out the IndieGoGo campaign:
My name is Troy Daily, local business owner and entrepreneur. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2008 with a BA in Hospitality Business. After living in California and Virginia for four years I moved back to Traverse City in early 2011. Upon moving back I started Daily Medias, a local marketing company. I then started local food and drink focused businesses including TC Cycle Pub, TC Ale Trail, and the TC Dining Guide, all of which filled unique niches in the area that had not yet been filled.
I have grown extremely passionate about the flourishing craft brew scene in the area, especially beer. The Cycle Pub had a great first season. The Ale Trail has had great traction since launching in July with over 1,200 brew lovers completing the trek. Both have been great influences on the industry. Thats when the Brew Bus idea was born...
The Brew Bus is an exciting way to educate, celebrate, and experience the craft brew community in a unique, fun and safe way.
The Brew Bus will offer some entertaining all-inclusive tours including; brewhouse tours, brewer and owner questionnaires, samplings at each location, and even some Cicerone-led tours. These experiences will not only be educational and interesting, but they will offer added benefits that may surpass if you were to visit the brewery on your own. The Brew Bus will also be available for rent and other tours will be announced early 2014.
If all goes well the Brew Bus is expected to be offering tours just after the New Year. With your help we can get, 'Ale Aboard the Brew Bus!'
