Raquel Belli
solo exhibition — underdogs capsule
Underdogs Capsule is pleased to present “Woven”, a small solo exhibition by Portuguese photographer and visual artist Raquel Belli.
The set of images that make up this showcase are a continuation of the work begun by the artist in East Timor. With patterns and techniques of basketry and weaving gathered from the country’s various regions, the images, with direct or indirect relations between themselves, are interwoven, following typical patterns widely used in that corner of the world. The repetitive character contrasts with the apparent disorganisation of the forms, imprinting them with a visually appealing aesthetic touch, of balance, almost pleasure. It also intends to pay tribute to a centuries-old handcrafted art trivialised and practiced mostly by women.
Opening reception with the artist:
Friday, 24 January 2020, 7pm – 10pm
Exhibition on view until 7 March 2020
Gallery opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday, from 12pm to 7pm
Free admission

Travel Portugal: Day trip to Sintra on the cheap
I do Sintra on the cheap and slightly ignorant. Should have done some research first because I missed Quinta da Regaleira completely (a must see), but overall things turned out fine and I had a blast visiting the Castle of the Moors, Pene Palace and Alta Cruz.

Embassy of Indonesia in Lisbon presentes ALFONSA HORENG creations.
Alfonsa Horeng is a Indonesian weaver and designer, from the Flores Island, who’s been travelling around the world showing her work and techniques. She creates weaving pieces with major aesthetic and visual impact, both due to the beauty of the decorative ethnic inspired patterns, and to the quality of the raw material – pure silk – which, right from scratch, guarantees the success of the presentation.
On top of her work as weaver, she’s been promoting various self-sustainable and ecological development projects in her home island. In 2003, she founded Lepo Lorun (House of Weaving), a weaver’s coop in Indonesia, which started with a group of 800 women from seventeen villages, with the aim to give new life to the traditional art and craft of making ikat tenun, a traditional weaving technique which uses pre-died yarn to create new patterns. «I wanted to develop what we already have, without taking traditional values out of the way».

Fina Flor - Segui o Tejo (DEMO)
Letra:

2 EURO Day Trip From Porto To Aveiro: Venice of Portugal - Triple P
Have you heard of the amazing 2 Euro day trip deal from Porto to Aveiro, the Venice of Portugal?
Introduction:
Hey everybody and welcome back to another episode of Triple P with me Surya Sridhar and my dad. So guys I am right now in the beautiful Sao Bento Station and we’re going to be taking a day trip to Aveiro, which is the Venice of Portugal. And the best part of this whole thing is that it only costed us 2 Euros to go and come back per person. That is an amazing deal. It’s only there on Sundays, so I highly recommend the next time when you guys come to Porto and you want to take a day trip, go for this deal. It’s absolutely fantastic! So let’s go and get started!
Come on guys! Let’s go! Let’s rock!
Voice Over:
So as we had another hour left before the train’s departure, we decided to quickly grab ourselves a Portuguese Pingo. It means “a drop”, and refers to the drop of milk put into the espresso. A much loved drink in Portugal.
The train journey in itself was around 1 hour 15 minutes long, but time really flew by as we ended up chatting with a really sweet couple. They ended up inviting me to stay in their home in Malta to take videos of the place for my channel. What an exciting opportunity!
When we finally arrived and made our way to the river cruise, the first thing that struck me was the artsy vibe of the place. Wall paintings, colourful murals, abstract statues and beautiful azure tilings on buildings. But even more stunning were the boats cruising through the canals. We quickly got our tickets, 10 euros each, and got on with a group as well as our personal guide who seriously impressed me with her language skills. She spoke Portuguese, English, Spanish as well as French!
The tour was very informative. We firstly learnt about the famous “moliceiros boats” that were traditionally used to harvest seaweed to fertilise the soils. What makes them so special is not only the shape, but the beautiful depictions drawn on them. Every boat has its own unique painting on it, whether it be of a historical figure, a day to day activity or even a religious symbol. We also got a chance to explore the older and more modern sides of town, learnt about the salt mining process as well as the pivotal roles of fishermen.
After the tour, we decided to go buy an ice-cream and explore the city by foot. We passed by quaint coffee shops, beautiful churches, blue tiled houses, until we came upon an awesome market selling artistic paintings, local baked delights, extra virgin olive oil, hand-woven textiles, as well as wood carved furniture. It had everything!
Unfortunately we didn’t get the time to explore more, but incase you are there longer during your visit, don’t forget to stop by the colourful Costa Nova Beach, the historic Aveiro Museum, and the lush Parque do Infante. It is definitely worth it!
