Travel Italy - Exploring the Medieval Town of Castell'Arquato
Take a tour of Italian Town of Castell'Arquato in Castell'Arquato, Italy -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Few Italian medieval towns have the palpable authentic beauty of Castell'Arquato.
The cobblestone streets and the distinctive Italian brick buildings give this area a warm and ancient feel.
There is an abundance of remarkable historic buildings in the town, such as the castle, several palaces, churches, and the town gate.
Castell'Arquato dates to ancient Roman times and took on new life in the early medieval ages.
Whether inside or outside, the history and beauty of this stony town is quaint and inviting at every turn.
The town's position on the top of the hill, originally for defensive purposes, now ensures that the area's best views are prominent.

Places to see in ( Piacenza - Italy )
Piacenza is a city in Italy’s Emilia Romagna region. In its central Piazza Cavalli are 2 equestrian statues and the medieval Gothic Palace. A copper angel rotates atop the bell tower of Piacenza Cathedral. The nearby Sant’Antonino Basilica has an 8-sided tower and 17th-century frescoes, plus a portal known as Heaven’s Gate, with a rose window. The Farnese Palazzo Civic Museums house sculptures and weapons.
Located in the centre of the Padana Valley, Piacenza is on the right bank of the river Po, only 67 Km from Milan. Along the final part of the ancient Via Emilia, the town is located in the Northernmost and Westernmost part of the Emilia region. This quiet, provincial town, easy to live in and dedicated to the pleasures of good food, is also characterised by small treasures, and memories of a historically rich past, like its Cathedral, ‘Palazzo Gotico’, ‘Palazzo Farnese’. Not to mention the wonderful noble mansions, its several churches and the narrow streets of the centre, which, though appearing severe, hide unexpected surprises. Any season is good to go to Piacenza. However, we recommend spring and autumn, when the mild climate makes walking along its streets more pleasant.
Undoubtedly, besides the two squares, ‘Piazza Duomo’ and ‘Piazza Cavalli’, the latter being the emblem of the city with the two equestrian statues by Mochi on the background of ‘Palazzo Gotico’, further sites are worth visiting : the Romanesque ‘Sant’Antonino ’ Basilica, one of the pilgrims’ stations along the Via Francigena, with its ‘Porta del Paradiso’ (Heaven’s Gate), ‘ Santa Maria di Campagna’ church which preserves, among others, frescoes by Pordenone and San Savino Basilica with the 12th century mosaics representing the cycle of the months.
Among the many places to visit in the streets of the city centre, San Sisto church, hidden from sight on purpose, is rich in frescoes, wrought iron works and 18th century decorations, while the Municipal Theatre, dedicated to Verdi and built by Lotario Tomba is like a miniature ‘Teatro alla Scala’.
Another remarkable place to visit is the beautiful ‘Palazzo Farnese’, built by Vignola, where Palazzo Farnese Municipal Museums are located; here it is possible to admire the Etruscan liver, Botticelli’s Tondo, while Alberoni Art Gallery displays the famous ‘Ecce Homo’ by Antonello da Messina.
You can’t leave Piacenza without visiting Ricci Oddi Modern Art Gallery, which offers a complete view of Italian figurative art starting from the second half of the 19th century. Besides the rich Opera and Drama season at Piacenza’s Municipal Theatre, Festival del Diritto (Law Festival) , held in September, has become a nationally important event.

Il Piacentino: Castello di Vigoleno, Castell'Arquato, landscape and Villa in 5K

Vigoleno village belongs to the Municipality of Vernasca, set in the eastern hills of the Province, on the ridge between Ongina river’s valley and Stirone river’s valley in Italy.
This cinematic aerial video was entirely filmed with a DJI Inspire 2 Drone, mounting a Zenmuse X7 Camera and the 35mm lens. The video was shot in 5k resolution in DLog (ProRes). For more information regarding the equipment, please visit:
Located between the Geological Reserve and Stirone River’s Park, is one of the most fascinating and full of history medieval villages in the Piacenza Province. Its massively and still undamaged fortified walls dominate the countryside and the vineyards even today. Since 2002, it has been certified by A.N.C.I. as one of the Most beautiful villages in Italy and Italian Touring Club gave it a special Orange Flag. The area is also on the path of the Via Francigena. Vigoleno was built as a defensive post. Climbing the narrow and steep paths, the visitors find themselves in a labyrinth, where the borders between the village and the castle slowly vanish.
The different light conditions during the day reflect on this kind of stone creating magical atmospheres, beautiful images in every season and breathtaking views. The fortified village has an elliptical layout, still extraordinarily complete and full of historical remnants, and it is surrounded by powerful embattled walls. A rampart walk runs along its imposing walls and you’ll find an amazing panoramic view of the Stirone river’s valley.
The town is dominated by a square stronghold pierced by arrow-slits and topped with swallow-tailed battlements. The rampart walk leads from the stronghold to the second tower. Residential buildings are located near the smaller tower.
Going beyond the defensive walls, you’ll find the square (“piazza”), that faces the Oratory of Madonna delle Grazie and San Giorgio Parish, built in the 12th century in Romanesque piacentino style.
Room with a view
For a fairy-tale overnight stay, it is possible to rent a suite inside Vigoleno Castle. All the suites have old-fashioned original furnishings but also all the modern comforts necessary to make your stay perfect.
Inside the big tower, there is an interesting display on local history and architecture.
Besides typical Piacenza dishes, the real first quality product is Vin Santo di Vigoleno, a delicious passito (wine made from dried grapes) made by few local farms in limited production. They served it chilled, 8-9 degrees, with tasty cheese. The area belongs to the Food and Wine Trail of Colli Piacentini.
In Vernasca, not far from Vigoleno (8 km) you can visit The Ancient Parish of S. Colombano surrounded by a small garden, that often hosts live music concerts. Near the surviving walls of the Church you can find the ancient rectory, that nowadays houses the Via Francigena Visitors Center. Castell’Arquato, also featured in the video, is 10 km far from Vigoleno. It’s a charming and suggestive medieval village. Also featured is a gorgeous Villa / Castle being restored. The Villa is a few km from Fidenza.

Travel Italy - Exploring the Italian Town of Bosa
Take a tour of Italian Town of Bosa in Bosa, Italy -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Lining the banks of the S-shaped Temo River are the buildings of Bosa, Italy.
The best view of the town, coast, and countryside is from the Serravalle's castle.
People have inhabited Bosa and its surrounding area longer than any surviving written record.
The town is located on the island of Sardinia, off the west coast of Italy.
There is a lot of history here, as it was once a provincial capital.
Because of Bosa's river and proximity to the coast, it is a popular fishing town.
Travel Italy - Exploring the Artistic Town of Barga
Take a tour of Italian Town of Barga in Barga, Italy -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The artistic and inspirational qualities of Tuscany have been emitted to every region lying within its boundaries.
The town of Barga holds true to this traditional Italian personality, and exudes warmth and charm.
This qiant town hasn't forgotten its medieval roots, a strong stamp of which is eminent in every avenue.
The alleys and pathways here are quiet narrow and the best way to go about exploring the place is on foot.
Compensating for the shadowy passages are excellent views from the ancient and elegant houses.
The Romaesque styled town church stands imposingly over the town and surrounding countryside.
Travel Italy - Exploring the Medieval Town of Panicale
Take a tour of Italian Town of Panicale in Panicale, Italy -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Among Umbria's many medieval cities, the town of Panicale stands out from the rest.
Many of the town's buildings are quite old and built in the traditional stone style.
The town has scenic streets and alleys, free of the clutter of storefront signs.
Though older, the town as it looks today largely formed and grew during the medieval ages.
A key landmark is the Podesta Palace, which looks out over the whole town.
Panicale is home to many grand town squares, fountains, and imposing structures combining to create a wholly unique locale and ethereal experience.
