Miami, Florida, United States, North America
Miami is a city located on the Atlantic coast in southeastern Florida and the county seat of Miami-Dade County. The 42nd largest city proper in the United States, with a population of 419,777, it is the principal, central, and most populous city of the Miami metropolitan area, and the most populous metropolis in the Southeastern United States after Washington, D.C. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Miami's metro area is the eighth most populous and fourth-largest urban area in the United States, with a population of around 5.5 million. Miami is a major center and a leader in finance, commerce, culture, media, entertainment, the arts, and international trade. In 2012, Miami was classified as an Alpha- World City in the World Cities Study Group's inventory. In 2010, Miami ranked seventh in the United States in terms of finance, commerce, culture, entertainment, fashion, education, and other sectors. It ranked thirty-third among global cities. In 2008, Forbes magazine ranked Miami America's Cleanest City, for its year-round good air quality, vast green spaces, clean drinking water, clean streets and city-wide recycling programs. According to a 2009 UBS study of 73 world cities, Miami was ranked as the richest city in the United States, and the world's fifth-richest city in terms of purchasing power. Miami is nicknamed the Capital of Latin America, is the second largest U.S. city with a Spanish-speaking majority, and the largest city with a Cuban-American plurality. Downtown Miami is home to the largest concentration of international banks in the United States, and many large national and international companies. The Civic Center is a major center for hospitals, research institutes, medical centers, and biotechnology industries. For more than two decades, the Port of Miami, known as the Cruise Capital of the World, has been the number one cruise passenger port in the world. It accommodates some of the world's largest cruise ships and operations, and is the busiest port in both passenger traffic and cruise lines. Miami has a tropical monsoon climate (Köppen climate classification Am) with hot and humid summers and short, warm winters, with a marked drier season in the winter. Its sea-level elevation, coastal location, position just above the Tropic of Cancer, and proximity to the Gulf Stream shapes its climate. With January averaging 67.2 °F (19.6 °C), winter features mild to warm temperatures; cool air usually settles after the passage of a cold front, which produces much of the little amount of rainfall. Lows sometimes fall below 50 °F (10 °C), but very rarely below 35 °F (2 °C). Highs generally range between 70--77 °F (21--25 °C). The wet season begins some time in May, ending in mid-October. During this period, temperatures are in the mid 80s to low 90s (29--35 °C), accompanied by high humidity, though the heat is often relieved by afternoon thunderstorms or a sea breeze that develops off the Atlantic Ocean, which then allow lower temperatures, but conditions still remain very muggy. Much of the year's 55.9 inches (1,420 mm) of rainfall occurs during this period. Extremes range from 27 °F (−2.8 °C) on February 3, 1917 to 100 °F (38 °C) on July 21, 1940. Miami has never recorded any snowfall although there were disputed claims of snow flurries on January 19, 1977. Hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30, although hurricanes can develop beyond those dates. The most likely time for Miami to be hit is during the peak of the Cape Verde season, which is mid-August through the end of September. Although tornadoes are uncommon in the Miami area, a tornado struck the city in 1925 and again in 1997. Miami falls under the USDA 10b Plant Hardiness zone. In addition to such annual festivals like Calle Ocho Festival and Carnaval Miami, Miami is home to many entertainment venues, theaters, museums, parks and performing arts centers. The newest addition to the Miami arts scene is the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the second-largest performing arts center in the United States after the Lincoln Center in New York City, and is the home of the Florida Grand Opera. Within it are the Ziff Ballet Opera House, the center's largest venue, the Knight Concert Hall, the Carnival Studio Theater and the Peacock Rehearsal Studio. The center attracts many large-scale operas, ballets, concerts, and musicals from around the world and is Florida's grandest performing arts center.

Genting Group Unveils $3 Billion Master Plan For Resorts World Miami
Miami, FL -- September 14, 2011 -- One of the most prized pieces of waterfront land in Florida will soon come alive with Resorts World Miami, a Destination Resort featuring iconic skyscrapers sporting designs inspired by a coral reef and serving as the centerpiece of a new three-mile Baywalk that will activate the city's waterfront. Resorts World Miami, which represents a $3 billion investment by Genting Group, comprises approximately 10 million square feet of mixed-use development, making it one of the largest development projects in Florida history.
Resorts World Miami will accelerate Florida's evolution as a global destination at the crossroads of the Americas, said Mr. KT Lim, Chairman and Chief Executive of Genting. Most importantly, Resorts World Miami will boost confidence in Florida's economy, creating 15,000 direct and indirect construction jobs and 30,000 permanent positions on an ongoing basis, attracting more inbound investment, and substantially increasing the tax base for the city, county and state.
Rising from 13.9 acres of bayfront land currently housing the Miami Herald Media Company, Resorts World Miami is located in the heart of the City of Miami, midway between Miami International Airport and Miami Beach.
Resorts World Miami introduces a new vocabulary of architecture to Florida, one that is inspired by the ocean and Florida's coral reefs, said Bernardo Fort-Brescia, Co-Founder and Principal of Arquitectonica, the world-renown architecture firm based in Miami. At Resorts World Miami, building designs echo familiar forms that are part of our identity, including tropical fish and seashells. When you describe Miami and Florida, you inevitably come back to the water. We have captured that relationship with Resorts World Miami's design.
Resorts World Miami includes a series of four hotels with a total of 5,200 rooms and two residential towers featuring 1,000 units. The towers take on sculptural forms that change from every perspective. Each building is designed with outside balconies adorned with LED-lit exteriors, creating a jewel-like effect that will illuminate the Miami skyline each night. The Destination Resort will include a super-luxury hotel, a contemporary hotel, a convention hotel, and a family hotel, offering a lodging option for each segment of the market.
The towers sit atop an 8-story podium where guests can immerse themselves in a double-story, 250,000 square foot luxury retail galleria; more than 50 restaurants, lounges, bars and nightclubs; a high-tech multimedia entertainment area showcasing the music and culture of Florida and South America; and 700,000 square feet of convention and meeting space which includes a 200,000 square foot column-free ballroom, the largest in the United States. A casino will be included if Florida's legislature and governor approve Destination Resort legislation.
Each level of Resorts World Miami is designed with outdoor terraces offering
spectacular unobstructed views of Biscayne Bay, downtown Miami and Miami Beach. The podium's rooftop features a 3.6 acre outdoor lagoon -- a size equivalent to 12 Olympic-size swimming pools -- and natural sand beaches that will enable guests to swim from Biscayne Boulevard to the edge of Biscayne Bay, a distance of more than 1,000 feet. Each hotel will also have a private swimming pool.
Resorts World Miami will be the highlight of a three-mile Baywalk beginning at the Miami River and running north to Margaret Pace Park. The Baywalk will link Bayfront Park, Bayside Market Place, American Airlines Arena, Museum Park, the Miami Art Museum currently under construction, the new Miami Science Museum currently under design, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and the Omni Center. All will be connected by new public spaces and pedestrian, jogging, and cycling paths that will activate this stretch of partially completed Miami waterfront.
Resorts World Miami has been designed -- and will be constructed -- in accordance with all applicable zoning codes and regulations, including Miami 21, the City of Miami's comprehensive zoning code. The project has been conceived with an emphasis on sustainability and LEED-certified solutions, including three levels of below-grade parking.

Miami, officially the City of Miami, is the cultural, economic and financial center of South Florida. Miami is the seat of Miami-Dade County, the most populous county in Florida. Miami is split into many different sections, roughly into North, South, West and Downtown. The heart of the city is Downtown Miami and is technically on the eastern side of the city. This area includes Brickell, Virginia Key, Watson Island, and PortMiami. Downtown is South Florida's central business district, and Florida's largest and most influential central business district. Downtown has the largest concentration of international banks in the U.S. along Brickell Avenue. Downtown is home to many major banks, courthouses, financial headquarters, cultural and tourist attractions, schools, parks and a large residential population. East of Downtown, across Biscayne Bay is South Beach. Just northwest of Downtown, is the Civic Center, which is Miami's center for hospitals, research institutes and biotechnology with hospitals such as Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami VA Hospital, and the University of Miami's Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.
The southern side of Miami includes Coral Way, The Roads and Coconut Grove. Coral Way is a historic residential neighborhood built in 1922 connecting Downtown with Coral Gables, and is home to many old homes and tree-lined streets. Coconut Grove was established in 1825 and is the location of Miami's City Hall in Dinner Key, the Coconut Grove Playhouse, CocoWalk, many nightclubs, bars, restaurants and bohemian shops, and as such, is very popular with local college students. It is a historic neighborhood with narrow, winding roads, and a heavy tree canopy. Coconut Grove has many parks and gardens such as Villa Vizcaya, The Kampong, The Barnacle Historic State Park, and is the home of the Coconut Grove Convention Center and numerous historic homes and estates.
The western side of Miami includes Little Havana, West Flagler, and Flagami, and is home to many of the city's traditionally immigrant neighborhoods. Although at one time a mostly Jewish neighborhood, today western Miami is home to immigrants from mostly Central America and Cuba, while the west central neighborhood of Allapattah is a multicultural community of many ethnicities.
The northern side of Miami includes Midtown, a district with a great mix of diversity with many West Indians, Hispanics, European Americans, bohemians, and artists. Edgewater, and Wynwood, are neighborhoods of Midtown and are made up mostly of high-rise residential towers and are home to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. The wealthier residents usually live in the northeastern part, in Midtown, the Design District, and the Upper East Side, with many sought after 1920s homes and home of the MiMo Historic District, a style of architecture originated in Miami in the 1950s. The northern side of Miami also has notable African American and Caribbean immigrant communities such as Little Haiti, Overtown (home of the Lyric Theater), and Liberty City.

The Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired Blind Babies program is a family-centered practice that engages parents and primary caregivers of blind or visually impaired children ages birth-5 as partners, in order to build upon their strengths while providing resources that best serve their needs.
Utilizing the Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum, the Blind Babies program serves children and their families by offering screenings, assessments, home visits and a well-established resource network of community partners. Supervised playgroups are offered twice weekly at Miami Lighthouse, providing participating children with an opportunity for social interaction and to increase their school readiness. Through a comprehensive array of services, resources and activities, the Blind Babies program increases the level of parental involvement in child development while also increasing the abilities of participating children. Silverspot Cinema - Downtown Miami - Grand Opening Dolby Atmos Launch Party
Welcome to an awesome addition to Downtown Miami -- Silverspot Cinema! This state of the art 17-screen movie theatre features fully-reclining plush seats, Barco high-contrast laser projection, and its newest addition -- Dolby Atmos, the most advanced surround sound system in the world! The theatre has elegant lounge areas on each floor with full bars that offer an assortment of fine wines, ice cold beers, and signature cocktails. More than having just a concession stand, Silverspot Cinema has Trilogy which features a full menu of chef-inspired delicious treats ranging from appetizers to entrees. Both food and drinks can be ordered on Silverspot's app and delivered right to you in your reserved seat. Forget about eating at a restaurant and then rushing to a theatre to try to catch that last showtime. Dinner and a movie can now be at one single location that allows you to enjoy both at the same time!
This Grand Opening VIP Party was on Thursday, May 9, 2019, which celebrated the arrival of Dolby Atmos to this location. A glass of champagne upon your entrance followed by a party atmosphere complete with a DJ as well as hors d'oeuvres and an open bar made this a truly spectacular night! Demonstrations of the Dolby Atmos surround sound system were showcased in Auditorium 13. A choice of one of two comedies was offered to each guest upon the end of the night's festivities along with unlimited popcorn, Argentinian chocolates (Cachafaz Alfajores), and bottled water. The movie choices were Long Shot with Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron & The Hustle with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. I chose Long Shot and was blown away by the 4K laser projection which pushes HDR (High Dynamic Range) to a new level. This is the exact technology that James Cameron is pushing theatres to update to for his upcoming 3D HFR (High Frame Rate) Avatar sequels. Silverspot is already set up for the future of cinema!
For parking, there are garages as well as valet. I parked at the SE Financial Center parking garage. You may want to reconsider parking here especially if you drive a large SUV because of the dreaded corkscrew-like very narrow driveway that takes you up and down several stories. You'll see this at the end of the video.
Validated parking for this location is $10 flat for the entire night which may be the best deal overall. There is another garage that the theatre validates parking for at the rate of $8 for 4 hours - however, if you go over the 4 hr time limit by even one minute, I was told you'll owe $60! If you're thinking about eating and/or having drinks before or after the movie and perhaps taking a stroll, I'd stick with either valet or the $10 flat-rate parking garage and learn to master the corkscrew.
Overall, I simply love this Silverspot Cinema and can't wait to go back!
Silverspot Cinema also has locations in other parts of Florida as well as North Carolina and Ohio.

Born to working-class Cuban-American parents, García was elected to the Hialeah City Council at the age of 24, where he served until 1999 while earning a bachelor’s degree in political science from Florida International University. After being elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2000, García went on to obtain an MBA in health administration and policy from the University of Miami.
Elected to Florida’s State Senate in 2010, García has proven to be a passionate leader and advocate for children, the elderly and the disabled. Having served as the chair of the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation, chair of the Health Services Subcommittee and chair of the Florida Hispanic Caucus, he has developed expertise in areas such as health policy, local community affairs and education. He also serves as chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services, where he has introduced responsible, common-sense legislation to make Florida a healthier place to live.
State Rep. José Félix Díaz
State Rep. José Félix Díaz was born and raised in Miami-Dade County, and began a lifelong commitment to leadership and public service in high school and college. He graduated with
honors from the University of Miami and went on to attend Columbia Law School, where he obtained his juris doctor degree.
Upon graduation from law school, Díaz returned to Miami, earning admission to the Florida Bar in 2005 and subsequently joining the law firm of Akerman LLP. His practice includes litigation, land use and zoning. In November 2010, he reaffirmed his dedication to public service with his election to the Florida House of Representatives, where he is a tireless advocate for children’s issues, and where he pushed hard for the recent KidCare legislative victory.
Locally, Díaz has served on the board of CHARLEE Homes for Children and is currently a board member at The Children’s Trust. He is also the chairman of the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation and of the Florida House Regulatory Affairs Committee.
