Raptor Rehab Project gives birds second chance
Participants in the MU veterinary medicine school volunteer with the Raptor Rehabilitation Project, helping to heal injured birds of prey from around Mid Missouri. The group cares for a wide variety of species, including owls, hawks and a turkey vulture. Ultimately, they try to re-release the animals, while closely monitoring their health. Students get hands on veterinary experience with the birds and the birds get a second lease on life. Some birds which are not healthy enough to be re-released become education birds, helping to teach the public about the unique creatures.
