BBC TV's The One Show presenters Alex Jones and Chris Evans despatched raving reporter Alex Riley to check out Olympic city crier Tony Appleton after he was chosen to ring his bell at the London Games.
Lord Appleton of Great Baddow has featured in many aspects of the razmataz surrounding the Olympic Games and will be involved in the closing ceremony
Tony Appleton, who performs the role in Chelmsford and Romford, was among 2,000 people who successfully auditioned for the Danny Boyle-directed events.

Mr Appleton said: I'm ecstatic, I didn't know what to do with myself when I learned about it. I just hope I get my words right.
He added: It will be my biggest ever audience - certainly much bigger than Chelmsford High Street.
Mr Appleton explained he had been one of about 10,000 people who applied to take part in the ceremonies and had to attend two auditions.
He said: When I went there I was dressed as a town crier and ended up dancing for three-and-a-half hours.
I'm getting on for 89, but I do train every day to keep myself fit, because I've got a lot of work to do.
There were nine rehearsals for the closing ceremony, its all top secret so I can't breathe a word, take a look at the opening ceremony if you want a flavour of the equally fantastic conclusion..
Mr Appleton, who has been a town crier for 20 years and has performed at large events including the New Year's Day parade in London, says this year is the jewel in the crown of crying events..

The Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation was completed in 1797 to link Chelmsford to the sea at Heybridge Basin.
It is a broad, shallow navigation that, for much of its 14 miles, uses the natural courses of the rivers Chelmer and Blackwater.
Twelve locks had to be built to accomodate its 77 ft (23.5m) fall to the coast.
The navigation was largely responsible for the rapid growth of Chelmsford in the 19th century, enabling heavy goods, mostly coal, bricks and timbers, to be carried cheaply - one barge could carry the same tonnage as twenty five horse-drawn wagons.
Springfield Lock is the first on the navigation with the lock chamber built to accomodate barges 60ft (18.3m long) 16ft (4.87m) wide and 2ft (0.6m) in draught.
The fall in the level here between the upper and lower gates measures 3ft 9ins (1.14m) and is one of the smallest on the navigation: at Hoe Mill Lock, Ulting, the fall is 8ft 3ins (2.5m).
The lock is filled through trap doors (paddles) cut into the bottom of the gates.
The cog and ratchet mechanism attached to the balance beams raises and lowers the paddles. The balance beams and gates were made from locally grown oak and elm.
When commercial traffic stopped on the navigation in the early 1970s the lock fell into disrepair and the Springfield Cut and Basin silted up .
The Chelmsford Branch of the Inland Waterways Association, with the help of various other agencies, restored the lock and dredged the Cut and Basin in 1993.
In 1997 the Chelmer Canal Trust organised a boating rally at Springfield Basin to commemorate the navigations's 200th birthday.
The Basin can be used as a berth for visiting boats and the starting point for a pleasant day's exploration of the waterway either afloat or on foot along the towpath which is a public right of way.
Below the lock is the historic bridge designed by John Rennie, the celebrated 19th century canal builder.
Further downstream the canal joins the River Chelmer proper and passes under the 1932 concrete bridge which carries Chelmsford's first bypass.
The large bulk of the 18th century Moulsham Mill, now used as an arts and crafts centre, stands imposingly to the south.

This is the notice published in October, that marks the passing of Gentleman Jack, who overcame so much and yet achieved so much in his long life.
CARRINGTON Jack Passed away on 23rd September 2019, aged 92 years.

Jack joined the Chronicle as a 15 year old in 1942 and but for his Army service during the last war he was a print worker who relished his varied roles at the world's finest local newspaper.
He was featured in the Essex Chronicle in November 2011 under the headline:
Childhood restored to Jack after 71 years
JACK Carrington's long life has been cruelly devoid of mementoes from his childhood -- until now.
After the tragic death of his mother in the Second World War his drunken dad ditched the Galleywood family home.
Letters, photographs and all the 18-year-old's belongings were destroyed.
But when archivist Wendy Cummin was seeking material for the new Galleywood Heritage Centre display -- The Home Front At Galleywood In The War -- she found a photo of 14-year-old Jack in 1940, knitting socks for soldiers with three other classmates.
Another portrayed him peering at a sailor showing the village school a model of their adopted destroyer.
Now 86, Jack said: It was a very emotional thing to see those photos of myself after more than 70 years.
All my personal belongings were cruelly destroyed in 1945. My childhood was wiped out.
Jack's mother, a nursing sister, was killed in a road crash in Romford while being transferred to Whipps Cross Hospital late in the war -- when Jack was a young soldier serving in the Middle East.
The driver overshot a red traffic signal.
When I came back from the war in 1946 a neighbour took me aside and said a new family had taken our house, said Jack. I had no letter, no idea.
All my belongings, including family photographs, had been destroyed and I never lived in Galleywood again.
He returned to the Essex Chronicle to take up an apprenticeship he started before the war, and he stayed until his retirement as administration manager 30 years ago.
Wendy, who presented him with copies of the pictures, said: It is very unusual to be able to recognise the child in a venerable old person but in Jack's case you recognise him instantly.
It was a poignant moment, giving him back a lost instant in his young life.
