Intended for my friends around the world who were working for the Marconi Company in Chelmsford at that time, this clip shows how the centre of Chelmsford looked on a typical weekday in 1963. Today the area is more modern and mostly pedestrianized.

Half of the population of Chelmsford was born in St. John's Hospital according to the this is Essex website . It closed on 19 November 2010 - making my visit to the place of my birth just in time!
The hospital was originally opened in 1877 - previously it had been the work house. Around 100,000 babies were born there - including me!
I had planned on going there for years - many years. Had I waited any longer then it would not have been there!
