ISTANBUL STREET FOOD will BLOW YOU AWAY!! Turkish Street Food HEAVEN - Adana Kebab + Pickle Juice!
Kemeraltı Bazaar in Izmir:
Iskender Kebab in Bursa :
Amazing street food can be found all around Istanbul! Join us as we continue our Street Food in Turkey tour! Today we are going to be trying some unique foods you’ve never heard of!
For breakfast, we are having a RARE type of turşu suyu, which is pickle juice. We ordered the “mixed” version - with cabbage, carrots, cucumbers and beets. And of course, the pickle juice is SPICY! (5 TRY / 0.86 USD)
Next, we’re visiting a weekly fresh market called Tarlabaşi Pazari which is only open on Sundays. In the summer, apricots are in season, and they are worth trying fresh at this traditional market!
In Istanbul, you can sample delicious cuisine that comes from all over Turkey. This time, we decided on Adana cuisine. Adana kebab is made from hand-minced lamb meat cooked over charcoal. That smokey flavour and juicy lamb is HEAVEN! (35 TRY / 6.02 USD)
If you’ve never tried traditional Turkish ice cream, you are missing out! We head to an old-school shop serving up a chewy textured (made from mastic) ice cream cone. So incredible on a hot Turkish summer day! (4.5 TRY / 0.77 USD)
Next up is a cruise on the iconic Bosphorus, because a trip to Istanbul is not complete without one. We opted for the economic TurYol cruise, a 90-minute tour north that passes palaces, mansions, bridges and plenty of gorgeous sights. For 20 TRY / 3.44 USD, that is totally worth it!!!
Since we were near the Bosphorus, we thought we would try the very FAMOUS Balik Ekmek, or grilled fish sandwich. In a tourist hot-spot, served from a real boat, the sights surrounding the restaurant are why it is so popular. The food however, was not that tasty and isn’t considered a good choice among the locals. We wanted to see what the hype was about. Oh well! (15 TRY / 2.58 USD)

İstiklal Avenue or Istiklal Street (Turkish: İstiklâl Caddesi, French: Grande Rue de Péra, English: Independence Avenue) is one of the most famous avenues in Istanbul, Turkey, visited by nearly 3 million people in a single day over the course of weekends. Located in the historic Beyoğlu (Pera) district, it is an elegant pedestrian street, 1.4 kilometers long, which houses boutiques, music stores, bookstores, art galleries, cinemas, theatres, libraries, cafés, pubs, night clubs with live music, historical patisseries, chocolateries and restaurants.
The avenue, surrounded by late Ottoman era buildings (mostly from the 19th and early 20th centuries) that were designed with the Neo-Classical, Neo-Gothic, Renaissance Revival, Beaux-Arts, Art Nouveau and First Turkish National Architecture styles; as well as a few Art Deco style buildings from the early years of the Turkish Republic, and a number of more recent examples of modern architecture; starts from the medieval Genoese neighbourhood around Galata Tower and ultimately leads up to Taksim Square.
Galatasaray Square is located at approximately the center of the avenue and is home to one of the finest educational institutions established in Turkey at the time of the Ottoman Empire; originally known as the Galata Sarayı Enderun-u Hümayunu (Galata Palace Imperial School) and today known as Galatasaray High School (Galatasaray Lisesi).
In the historic Karaköy (Galata) district towards the southern end of the avenue, it is possible to see the world's second-oldest subway station, generally known and referred to as simply Tünel (The Tunnel) which entered service in 1875. Moreover, the German High School of Istanbul (Deutsche Schule Istanbul in German, Özel Alman Lisesi in Turkish) is also located near Tünel.
The cosmopolitan avenue is surrounded by an array of historical and politically significant buildings, such as the Çiçek Pasajı (Flower Passage) where small, intimate restaurants and taverns are found; Balık Pazarı (The Fish Market); the Ağa Camii Mosque; the Roman Catholic churches of Santa Maria Draperis and S. Antonio di Padova; the Greek Orthodox Haghia Triada; the Armenian Üç Horan (among many other churches); several synagogues; mosques; academic institutions established by various European nations such as Austria, France, Germany and Italy in the 19th century; and consulates (former embassies before 1923) of several nations including France, Greece, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom….Wikipedia

Walking Tour | Eminönü | Port- Fish and Bread | İstanbul | Turkey | 15 March 2019
hiking route is below
For perhaps a century, fishermen brought their catch from the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara to Istanbul's Galata Bridge over the Golden Horn for sale.
A few enterprising boatmen had an idea: why not cook the fish right on the boat and offer it for sale ready-to-eat?
They built grills and fryers right in their boats, built fires in them, grilled fish fillets, stuffed them in half a loaf of bread, and handed the fish sandwiches from the boat to thousands of hungry, thrifty Istanbullus every day.
Balık ekmek! Balık ekmek! they shouted. (Fish in bread! Fish in bread!)
Fish Sandwich cook in a boat on the Golden Horn, Istanbul, Turkey
Making a fish sandwich
on the boat...
For as long as I've been visiting Turkey, which is now nearly 50 years, there have always been fish sandwiches for sale at the mouth of the Golden Horn. I loved the weirdness of seeing a cooking fire raging in a boat, I loved the flavor of the fresh fish, and I loved the price—cheap! And I've never been ill from eating one.
Then came Turkey's aspiration to join the European Union, and such old-fashioned, romantic, but perhaps unsanitary practices were discouraged.
Istanbul's newspapers were filled with requiems for the Galata Bridge fish sandwich, paeans to its flavor, nutritional value, cheapness, and tradition. A part of Istanbul's age-old culture died.
Or did it?
I'm happy to report that the Istanbul fish sandwich lives!
Istanbul fish sandwiches are still being served daily in the traditional boats tied to the quay, and also at little restaurants beneath the Galata Bridge.

* Pazartesi günü Bahçelievler Pazarı
* Salı günü Kadıköy Pazarı
* Çarşamba günü Bostancı Pazarı
* Çarşamba günü Fatih Pazarı
* Çarşamba günü Yeşilköy Pazarı
* Çarşamba günü Ihlamur Pazarı
* Perşembe günü Etiler Pazarı
* Perşembe günü Merter Pazarı
* Perşembe günü Erenköy Pazarı
* Perşembe günü Ulus Pazarı
* Perşembe günü Suadiye Pazarı
* Cuma günü Fındıkzade Pazarı
* Cuma günü Üsküdar Pazarı
* Cumartesi günü Bakırköy Pazarı
* Cumartesi günü Beşiktaş Pazarı
* Cumartesi günü Küçükçekmece Pazarı

The Grand Bazaar (Turkish: Kapalıçarşı, meaning ‘Covered Bazaar’; also Büyük Çarşı, meaning ‘Grand Bazaar’[1]) in Istanbul is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with 61 covered streets and over 3,000 shops [2][3] which attract between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily.[4] In 2014, it is listed No.1 among world's most-visited tourist attractions with 91,250,000 annual visitors.
