Amtrak Coast Starlight, in a Sleeper Car Bedroom
The overnight 14 Coast Starlight (Amtrak) from Los Angeles to Seattle.
--3 states
--1,377 miles
--36 hours
--29 stops (a few afford a chance for some fresh air, for a few minutes)
--incalculable jaw drops at the beauty seen from along the ocean coastline to the snowy mountain ranges and backdoor views of towns and cities.
I can't recommend this enough! What an experience! What a way to see the country! The whole ride was smooth, quiet, and tranquil. Whether you enjoy a book in the glass-domed car while sipping on some coffee, or nurse a beer through the passing majesty outside your window, you are rocked gently into a relaxation that is unlike any other. The staff was ever ready to accommodate needs and/or wants. Guest speakers rode along, regaling passengers with tales of the flora, fauna, and history of the areas. Fellow passengers were in equal states of awe and wonder, evidenced by the acknowledging head tilts complete with twinkling eyes and hearty grins. Childhood fancy was stirred together with an aged appreciation and I found that though we were moving northward, time had stood still.
Note: Yes...I have since learned to refrain from filming in portrait mode, when using a phone. ????
Note: Thank you, all, who have clarified that it's a Lounge Car featured in this video, not an actual Parlour Car. I did not intend to mislead anyone; during our ride, the staff and fellow passengers were calling it the Parlour Car, and I was at fault for following the flock in my understanding. Our train's Parlour Car must have been undergoing maintenance, at the time. I did find, however, the Lounge Car to be quite enjoyable. Nevertheless, I imagine riding with an official Parlour Car would enhance the experience, greatly. Thank you all, for clarifying this, for me and for others.
Note: for mobile device viewers, annotations don't appear on-screen. At the 2:28 mark, it should be noted that There is a traditional door on this bathroom; it's just not visible, here.

Bike SF: Long ride around SF (San Francisco & Golden Gate Bridge)
2013-10-02 : From the FiDi along the bay to the Golden Gate Bridge over to Marin and to the Mission. 19.3 miles; 1 hour, 42 minutes.
(2019 updated ride: )
Route:
Start in 100 California coming out of the back (to a concert across the street) on Sacramento St, Front St, Clay St, Drumm St, Washington St, to the Embarcadero along the bay through Jefferson St along Fisherman's Wharf, Aquatic Park, Fort Mason to Marina Blvd and Mason St in the Presidio. Past bits of park closed due to the government shutdown along Crissy Field.
Over to and up Crissy Field Ave to the Battery East Trail (with another road, Long Ave, closed due to government shutdown) and onto the east side of the Golden Gate Bridge around 30:00 (the west, bike only, side is closed, due to the government shutdown?) wading through all the tourists to Marin County to turn around 40:30 and head back to San Francisco.
Off the Golden Gate Bridge back along Battery East Trail but Long Ave is closed and Crissy Field Ave is one way so continue further east on the trail (way-finding would be nice) along Lincoln Blvd. to the Patten Rd trail, and confusingly dumped back on Lincoln Blvd with no way-finding mechanism to know how to get back on it. Sheridan Ave, Graham St, Lincoln Blvd again which becomes Presidio Blvd to Lombard St and out of the Presidio. Lyon St, Francisco St which becomes Alhambra St on to Bay St, Van Ness St down to the Aquatic Park again and 1:12:05 over to run all of Polk St and 10th St and Potrero Ave southbound.
Loop around at Cesar Chavez because by this point it's time to head on back up to Southern Pacific Brewing: Potrero Ave northbound, crossing at 20th St along to Harrison St, 19th St, and on in to Treat Ave.

.:SAN FRANCISCO CITY GUIDE:.
-Palm House (Known for their GIGANTIC punch bowls... literally serves 4-6 people lol. Trendy decor with a lively atmosphere!)
2032 Union St, San Francisco, CA 94123
-Wasteland (Thrift store with vintage + designer clothing/ Haight street has many thrift shops and definitely offers a more eclectic vibe
1660 Haight St, San Francisco, CA 94117
-Sparrow (Cafe style restaurant that offers inside / outside seating)
1640 Haight St, San Francisco, CA 94117
-Delarosa (Vintage with a modern twist! We only ordered drinks at the bar but the food looked + smelled incredible! I've heard they are known for their killer pizzas!)
2175 Chestnut St, San Francisco, CA 94123
-Blackwood (TALK ABOUT A WAIT FOR BRUNCH. And by that I mean we were on the waiting list for about 2 hours lol... it is definitely a boozy brunch restaurant but the food is worth trying too even if you're not in the mood to drink! They offer a variety of brunch items as well as a thai menu)
2150 Chestnut St, San Francisco, CA 94123
-SusieCakes (Cute little bakery that makes homemade cakes, cupcakes and cookies. Lacey said the cakes were worth trying... so we bought 3)
2109 Chestnut St, San Francisco, CA 94123
-Mission Dolores Park (WHAT. A. VIBE. That's all I have to say. Everyone is hanging out on blankets or hammocks, drinking wine or beer, listening to music... CHECK IT OUT but leave no trace aka keep it clean and pick up your trash :)))
Dolores St & 19th St, San Francisco, CA 94114
-Blazing Saddles San Francisco (100% the best way to see the city / Golden Gate Bridge. You are riding a bike in San Francisco so remember to be aware of cars and other pedestrians / bikers. I would highly recommend riding the bikes down to Sausalito and taking the ferry back. Worth doing once but it is an all day commitment and slightly nerve wracking lol)
2555 Powell St, San Francisco, CA 94133
-Barrel House (Again with the vibes!! This water side restaurant is elevated and gives you a panoramic view of Sausalito. Definitely sit outside!)
660 Bridgeway, Sausalito, CA 94965
-Gracias Madre (VEGAN. MEXICAN. RESTAURANT. Need I say more? 10/10 would recommend. The tables are communial but be sure to make a reservation because there is always a wait!
2211 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94110
-GetARound (This is an app rather than a destination, but it allows you to find vehicles near your location to rent for a period of time and then you can easily unlock the vehicle with your phone. Brittany and I got a Passat for $60 for the day! Can't beat it.)
-Big Sur (Breathtaking views of cliffs and the coastline. The drive is about 2 hours and 15 minutes from San Francisco but offers a scenic ride)
-Alvarado Street Brewery (We stopped in Monterey Bay on the way back from Big Sur. This industrial style brewery offers a laid back vibe. However, I heard Monterey is known for their seafood which is offered more near the pier)
426 Alvarado St, Monterey, CA 93940
-Charmaine's (This is a rooftop bar with pricey drinks, but a great view of San Francisco's skyline. Although the bar is rather upscale, it is weirdly located in a slightly sketchy area FYI)
1100 Market St, San Francisco, CA 94102
-Akiko's Restaurant (Good sushi and reasonably priced!)
431 Bush St, San Francisco, CA 94108
♡The first time I visited San Francisco, I came on a layover with my Mom and was only there for 24 hours. Even having only been in town for a short amount of time, when asked my favorite cities, it always made the cut. This past week, I visited my old college roommate and (still) best friend Lacey as she showed us her favorite spots of the bay area. Not only will San Francisco continue to make it on my list of favorite cities and dare I even say cities I would consider moving to... Watch as I spend the week with my girlfriends, eat good food and immerse myself in all that is the Cali lifestyle!
