October 1. Fishing the Wisconsin River - Sturgeon Spooled Me
My goal was to add some new species to my catch list. This is a great location to do this because fish are stopped and concentrated by the Prairie du Sac dam - the first dam encountered by fish swimming upstream in the Wisconsin River.
Anyways, that plan fell apart after I broke off three or four live bait rigs on snags in a matter of maybe 5-6 casts. I switched back to lures and foul hooked (likely) a sturgeon (or maybe a paddlefish) which stripped out 75+ yards of brand new line in just a few seconds then broke me off when my backing ran out.
Unfortunately that fish has a good sized lure in its back along with a trail of line - not ideal. Also I found a cool lure.
This video is kind of all over the place - hopefully it's interesting.

Anglers may say Eagle Valley Reservoir is their favorite fishing hole, but Spring Valley is not just rich in trout, it is rich in history. Wisconsin Great River Road - Birding
The Upper Mississippi River Valley along the Wisconsin Great River Road is one of the most important places for birds and wildlife in North America.
The Wisconsin Great River Road runs through the center of the Mississippi River Flyway, a superhighway for migrating birds, such as songbirds, waterfowl, shorebirds and raptors. And during the summer, it is one of the most important nesting areas in North America for a number of bird species.
It is not only the river that attracts the birds, but it's the protected forests, wetlands and prairies that line nearly two-thirds of the Wisconsin Great River Road National Scenic Byway route. Beaver, muskrat, otter, white-tailed deer, fox, coyote and other mammals thrive along the Wisconsin Great River Road. More than 145 species of amphibians and reptiles live in and along the Upper Mississippi River. There is no other place in the Midwest that offers such diversity.

Weir pool to mill pond entrance
I took this video after I had been in the weir pool run off to the mill pond digging out the detritus. You can see my boot prints in the mud.
Please excuse my breathing, that's all down to a very poorly nose and being very unfit.
Removed the metal plate blocking the pipe that has stopped the flow to the mill. Now a good flow.
