Berry Pomeroy Castle
A visit to Berry Pomeroy castle which is near to Paignton in Devon. The castle was the home of the Seymour family and is currently run and maintained to English Heritage. Admission fee includes the use of a free audio guide which really adds the visit and fills in so many blanks.

Before I go any further this actual photo of the 2 images on the photo to this video was a real capture in 2014 by a local paranormal investigator from Torquay at the back of the castle where this is a long drop which is the great hall. Some say the white lady and the other image could be the first stage of a manifestation of the blue lady ghost Eleanor. Ghosts of Berry Pomeroy Castle 1993, Just some of the many ghosts that have haunted the castle here in England for many years. The white lady ghost is said to be Lady Margaret De Pomeroy, The Blue Lady ghost is said to be Eleanor De Pomeroy who imprisoned Margaret in St Margaret's Tower to the right of the castle, the blue lady is said to walk along the top of the main castle building and then drops to the bottom of the grass inside in the castle in the corner. she has appeared to many people and her facial features seems to change to those that have seen her and is quite a scary appearance for those that have seen her. The white lady is said to haunt St Margaret's Tower and the spiral stair case and the long gravel walk and also down in the courtyard in the main building as you walk in from the gatehouse where the archway is and around the whole area. best times to go where it is at it's strongest is between 12am and 6.00am and seems around 3am where a lot of sightings have taken place but sightings can happen at anytime, if your able to get over the wall check the great hall area at the back where there is a long drop where this photo was taken and take many photo in and around the whole area and castle as well as the lawn and . nothing is guaranteed as some ghosts don't readily appear and sometimes often heard and sensed rather than seen but if your sensitive and open you just may have an experience. the whole castle has many ghosts and even down the drive way and woods and valley down below. take a lots and lots of photos and especially around the gatehouse and doorways and windows and grounds check out this page. One of the ghosts is known as the White Lady. She haunts the dungeons, and rises from St. Margaret's Tower to the castle ramparts. Those who report seeing this figure associate it with feelings of depression, fear and malevolence. She has been identified as the ghost of Lady Margaret Pomeroy who was imprisoned in the dungeons by her sister, Lady Eleanor.
Eleanor was insanely jealous of her younger and prettier sister, and is said to have incarcerated her because of a love rivalry, after Lord Pomeroy left to go on a crusade and left Eleanor in charge. Margaret was imprisoned in the castle dungeons for nearly two decades, before Eleanor allowed her a slow and painful death through starvation.
A blue light has been seen on a particular day every year in St Margaret's Tower, usually during the evening. The blue light has been witnessed by many people in the past including Peter Underwood and his colleagues during an overnight investigation some years ago.
A second ghost is the Blue Lady, she has been reported there as far back as the 18th century. Dressed in a long blue cape and hood it has been claimed that she tries to lure men to their death by seeking help in unsafe areas of the castle.
Said to be the spirit of the daughter of an early Norman lord, who after an incestuous relationship with her father, she gave birth to a child. Shortly after it's birth, her father strangled the baby in one of the upper rooms of the tower. In another version of the story it is said that she hated the child so much that she strangled it herself. It is said that because she smothered her child, her troubled spirit can find no rest, and she is often seen wringing her hands in anguish. At various times, the cries of the murdered infant can be heard throughout the castle.

There are a number of legends associated with the castle, and according to the English Heritage guidebook, it is reputed to be one of the most haunted castles in Britain. A tragic love story involving Margaret, Eleanor and a handsome knight is based around the castle. According to local urban legend, when Margaret died the knight used her ring (inherited from her Grandmother) to marry Eleanor. When Margaret died however, legend says that she protects her beloved ring from anyone who so much as look at it. The knight (name unknown) died only weeks later and Eleanor fled with her sister's jewellery to somewhere near Bridestowe. What happened to her is unknown.
Two female ghosts are said to haunt the castle: the White Lady, and the Blue Lady. The Blue Lady is said to beckon for help from passers-by, luring them to her tower. If they go to her, it is said they fall to their death.
