Hawaiian Grown TV - Island Princess Candies - Plant Tour
Thanks to a sweet inspiration and hard work by its owners, Dr. Michael Purdy and his wife, Gwendolyn (Gwen) Purdy, Island Princess has become one of Hawaii's top manufacturers of specialty macadamia nut products, luscious chocolates and unique gourmet confections. As president of Purdyco International, Ltd., Dr. Purdy oversees Island Princess Macadamia Nut Company, the 1,100-acre orchard and processing facility at Keaau on The Big Island of Hawaii, Island Princess manufacturer and distributor of Island Princess products, and Orchard Heights Winery near Salem, Oregon. Upon completion of his studies at Oregon State University, Dr. Purdy graduated from the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center with a degree in dentistry.
Originally from rural Oregon, Michael and Gwen both grew up as members of large families in the small logging community of Valsetz, where the entire length of the main street was one mile and their four-year high school had a total student body of 29.
In 1983, Michael and Gwen moved to Maui to begin a dental practice. Two years later, Gwen emerged as a successful entrepreneur in her own right, when she opened Maui's Best retail stores. That same year, the Island Princess brand was born when hand-dipping chocolates in front of their delighted customers became a special feature of the retail stores.
The unique Island Princess chocolate treats were an immediate hit with visitors to Maui as well as residents. When candy production expanded into factory space, Michael could be found practicing dentistry by day and manufacturing confections by night, gaining the nickname The Choc Doc.
Island Princess gourmet products became a major draw to consumers in The Islands and beyond, prompting Michael to give up his dental practice in order to focus full time on developing the growing business. Due to the increasing need for a larger labor pool and more convenient shipping, Island Princess relocated to Honolulu in 1989.
The next big step in Island Princess' growth occurred in 1998 with the acquisition of a macadamia nut orchard and processing facility, making Island Princess one of the few companies in Hawaii that grows, processes, manufactures and distributes macadamia nuts and confections. The Island Princess Orchard Estate, located on the slopes of Mauna Kea at Keaau on The Big Island of Hawaii is 1,100 acres of pristine farmland, with ideal natural conditions for growing macadamia nuts of the highest quality and with the richest flavor. In fact, dedication to quality, creativity and service are the keys to Island Princess success story. Our many loyal customers have come to depend upon Island Princess' trademarks of Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts, superior ingredients, innovative recipes and exceptional packaging.
Don't take just our word for it. Island Princess Macadamia Popcorn Crunch was voted the best caramel corn in the United States by National Food Distributors Magazine. Our world-famous Mele Macs are a year-round best seller. If it were possible to stack all of the Mele Macs consumed in one year, they would extend from sea level to the top of Haleakala (over 10,000 feet in elevation), more than 20 times.
With a strong work ethic, vast energy and dynamic leadership on the part of our owners, Island Princess continues to set new standards of excellence.

HAWAII - HALE PONO ADVENTURES
See:
Book Hale Pono at:
Quiet and lush in its own acres of tropical gardens at the end of a palm-lined, private, gated driveway, Hale Pono is a brand new, eco-friendly retreat home. In a peaceful location off the beaten track, where tropical rainforest meets the jungle on its way down to the ocean.
Hale Pono enjoys a pleasant jungle/rainforest climate gently kissed by the trade winds - only 20 minutes from Hilo airport, closer to all the island has to offer! If you choose to fly into Kona Airport, you will have a spectacular 2 hour drive to Hale Pono and see many beautiful sights on your way home! Every island road is unique: passing desert, mountain, ocean, forests, lava-rock fields, rolling ranchlands, quaint towns and villages.
Experience the many exciting adventures of the Big Island or stay home, take hikes locally, relax in the house and gardens, stargaze at nights - choose: grocery delivery, rideshares to town or bus stops, massage sessions, healing sessions and breakfast/evening meal service. When you are ready, your 4x4 can be brought to you at Hale Pono to start your adventures. See halepono.com for details.
. Sleeps 7 on comfortable beds, 1 king, 1 queen, 1 inflatable queen with mattress-topper, (1 optional twin/single bed for an extra person in either bedroom) . 2 full bathrooms with large tubs, showers, basins and toilets in each . All-local harvested wood trim and floor . Fully equipped kitchen . Dining area with extendible table . Seating area for 7 people laundry room (washer, dryer, laundry sink) . Plenty of closet space . Plenty of parking . Outdoor Hawaii-style barbeque area . Hawaii art and crafts enhance the natural features of the home . 6 acres tropical gardens & ohia forest
If you are renting a vehicle, your hosts encourage you to rent locally, and recommend to rent an AWD vehicle or 4x4 - it will give you far more flexibility for your island adventures; scaling the Mauna Kea summit, visiting Waipio Valley and some of the wilder beaches and beauty spots.
The home is set on a traditional Hawaii bumpy lava-rock trail - 0.5 miles off paved road in one direction and 0.7 miles in the other, so your 4x4 will make the drive home easier.
Subject to availability, we can arrange for an older, local 4x4 (e.g., Toyota Forerunner) to meet you at the airport or at our home. Rates start at $250 per week, $60 per day. Please let us know in advance as the rental guy requires paperwork. An older 'island' vehicle makes you look like a local.
Harpers Rental in Hilo rent new 4x4s - we've had good rental experiences with them. The the bigger car rental companies rent soft-top jeeps which are great fun for island driving (be sure to book them well in advance).
A TV and DVD player are available and, usually, access to wireless internet and Netflix, although the last two are dependent on the local service being available and are not always reliable. There is excellent 4G service in the area and most smart phones work to pick up wireless internet independent of the WiFi.
. LOCAL 4x4 RENTAL ARRANGEMENT $250 P/ WEEK, $60 P/ DAY (subject to availability)
. GROCERY DELIVERY $10
. JOIN US FOR FAMILY MEALS - BREAKFAST $5, DINNER $15, DESSERTS $3
There are MANY things to do and experience on the Big Island, often people decide to stay for several weeks to enjoy the adventures and experiences - so Hale Pono's daily rates go down the longer you stay. We encourage you enjoying our wonderful island!

This is just one of many very special places we take you in Hawaii. The Big Island is filled with magical spots like this: Waipio Valley.
Waipiʻo means curved water in Hawaiin and the name stems from the curved beach formed in between two massive cliffs. During heavy rains waterfalls come down on the cliffs here. It's beautiful and the video of course does not do it justice. Waipio Valley on the Big Island of Hawaii is so beautiful that many early Hawaiin Kings chose it as there capital and home base.

Holiday in Hawaii
Hawai is the only state on the island that is made up of more than a hundred people. It is located in the middle part of the Pacific Ocean. The island line, including the rocks, stretches over a 2400 km2 line. The total area of these islands is 16,700 km2 and the population is 800,000.
Starting in the northwest with the so-called Ocean (Globe), the Midway and Gardner islands to the southwest, Friench, Frigate Shoal, Necker, Nihao and Kavla islands are small islands that are not high. They are reminiscent of a marine rock. The next eight attract attention as land fragments of true island character. These are the Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molakai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Blue and Hawaiian islands respectively.
Hawai Island; It is the largest and youngest south of the Hawaiian Islands. It has a surface area of 10.458 km2. The length between north and south is 145 km and the width is 120 km. The Hawaiian Islands, the most notable island group in the North Pacific, were discovered in 1778 by Captain Cook. The Hawaiian Islands, seen in very small specks on a Pacific map, are in fact the peaks of the chain of volcanic mountains. These islands, one of the largest mountain chains in the world, have come to the conclusion that thousands of lava flows have been piled up from the bottom of the ocean. They rise from the bottom of the ocean at a depth of 4500 m with an average value. In this case, even the lowest parts of the islands above the sea are more than 4500 m high. The highest peaks from sea level are Mauna Kea 4205 m and Mauna Leo 4170 m. The summit is covered with glaciers. Mauna Kea (Beyazdağ) is 4000 m high and there is a lake that does not thaw even in summer. There is still an active volcano in Hawaii. The rate of precipitation varies by region. E.g; The Kono region on the famous west coast is the only place in the islands group that receives more precipitation in summer and winter. Normally there are very few streams. One reason for this is that rocks and soil are permeable. Another reason is that there is very little rain in open winds. Its main products are candy and pineapple. Macadamia comes first in the production of walnuts in the islands. Cattle and sheep are grown in high grasslands. The Hawaiian volcanoes, the National Park, are huge and spectacular places worth seeing. This group of islands attract many tourists.
Hawaii is one of the states of the United States. It is a group of islands in the North Pacific Ocean, 3,700 kilometers from the mainland. B.C. The 1000 were occupied by other Polish islands in their rank. Here, for nearly 800 years, various tribes have settled here and kept their culture and religion in peace. In 1778, the British Sea Captain James Cook sailed to Hawaii's archipelago and created the first Euro-Hawaiian relationship. Nevertheless, historians argue that this island is the first Spanish to go to Europe. Some aftermath of the European relations have tried to take control of all the Hawaiian islands. For example, the famous `` Kamehameha`` traded with Europeans and got guns with them. Kamehameha was able to occupy all the islands gradually thanks to gunpowder technology unknown in Hawaii. Some tribes who opposed him have jumped from the high cliffs because they can not protect their countries with arrows and droves. Suicide was much better than surrendering to them.
The land Kamehameha earned only lasted until 1893. The last king, Liliuokalani, was destroyed by the Reform Party of the Hawaiian Kingdom. A republic was established after the last dictatorship, and Hawaii trading, closed to foreign countries, has greatly improved its production and trade by joining the world economy. Finally, in 1898, American patronage entered the underground, and in 1959 a referendum became the 50th and last state of the United States.
Geography
Hawaii, the southernmost of all American states, is in many respects very different from other states. It's the only island state. It is always growing as an area due to the lava coming from the volcanoes. Today, Hawaii, which we know, is formed by the transformation of lava from underwater volcanoes into solidified rocks.
This team consists of about 18 small islets. But eight of them are called main islands. These include `` Ni`ihau`, `` Kaua```, `` O`ahu``, `` Moloka```, `` LÄ na```, `` Kaho`olawe`` , `` Maui``, and `` Hawai`` are the islands. The island of Hawaii is the biggest, so they call it Big Island. Another reason for these names is the same as the name of the name of this island.
These islands are famous for their high and volcanic mountains. Climate and volcanic soil are very suitable for plant growth. The soil formed by minerals in the lavas ensured the formation of plants and animals not seen elsewhere in the world.
Climate
Hawaii climate is not like a typical tropical climate. Because the ocean is covered and distant from the continents, the temperature does
Lahiki Ola Kava in Pahoa is Awa Bar #6 for Hawaii's Big Island
Lahiki Ola Kava and Kambucha Bar in Pahoa, Big Island Hawaii...
Kava Dave of Hilo's Bayfront Kava Bar has been promoting and supporting the Kingdom of Hawaii's Awa Bars for several years. There are now seven of them on Big Island including the newest edition in Honaka'a.
This video is of Pahoa's Rainbow Family Kawa Bar, the Lahiki Ola Kava Bar in downtown Pahoa right down the Boardwalk from Lequin's Mexican Restaurant across from Pahoa Village Museum.
This is a great place to rest and relax or get a dose of diverse culture from Puna's eccentric best.
Lahiki Ola Kava also serves up an incredible selection of Kambucha embued with some pono herbs and essences from nature.
The awa root comes from da Island... fresh Awa Root straight out of the ground along the Hamakua Coast followed by meticulous cleaning and preparing the ancient Hawaiian sacred ceremonial staple for grinding. Once the fresh, clean Awa root is ground up fine it is frozen to await squeezing at the Awa Bar. The Awa Bars serve up fresh Island Kava, the drink made from
