Keystone Cemetery -South Dakota
Keystone Cemetery (also known as Mountain View Cemetery) sits peacefully on a hilly slope within a wooded area. Keystone Cemetery hides a little known secret to the Black Hills tourists. The cemetery actually has a great viewing point of Mount Rushmore The old cemetery overlooks Mount Rushmore and is the burial site for mine workers and people who died after the completion of the famous carved monument. Although nobody died during the construction of Mount Rushmore, many of the workmen died later of silicosis—a lung condition caused by the dust they inhaled while carving the Stone Mountain.
Gutzon Borglum began his project at age 60 in 1927. The faces were completed between 1934 and 1939. Gutzon died in March 1941 at age 73 -. His son, Lincoln Borglum took over the project and added on the final touches to the masterpiece. The construction ended on Halloween, October 31, 1941.

Noem Testifies on Black Hills National Cemetery Expansion Legislation (KOTA)
Rep. Kristi Noem testified before the House Natural Resources Committee on her Black Hills National Cemetery Boundary Expansion Act, which would transfer nearly 200 acres of land outside Sturgis from the Bureau of Land Management’s jurisdiction to the Department of Veterans Affairs. The transfer would give the Black Hills National Cemetery additional space to serve future veterans.

Finding HBO Deadwood Characters in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood South Dakota
The successful HBO series and movie, Deadwood, is about the true mining town of Deadwood, South Dakota in the Black Hills. During its post-Civil War years, Deadwood was not part of any U.S. state or territory. This lawless town attracted people looking to get rich after a huge gold strike, as well as those who wanted to capitalize on the lack of organized law in the town.
Many of the characters in the show were real people. And some were famous western figures like Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. In this video we go on a search in the historical Mount Moriah Cemetery for these legendary figures of Deadwood, South Dakota. And find some local history on the way. For custom hotels deals go to:

Description
Dances with Wolves actor Chief David Bald Eagle dies at 97
Native American Chief David Bald Eagle, who appeared in the Oscar-winning 1990 film Dances With Wolves, has died aged 97.
The grandson of Chief White Bull, who fought in the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876, Bald Eagle appeared in more than 40 films.
He went on to become the face of South Dakota's Lakota people.
He died at his home on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation on 22 July, according to a local funeral home.
Born in a tepee in 1919 on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation, his native Lakota name translates as Wounded in Winter Beautiful Bald Eagle.
He served in the US Army during World War Two where he fought in the landings at Anzio in Italy and won the silver star.
After being severely wounded by German fire while parachuting into Normandy during D-Day, Bald Eagle pursued a music career as a drummer for Cliff Keyes Big Band.
Following a foray into ballroom dancing, which ended with the tragic death of his dance partner and wife, Penny Rathburn, in a car crash, Bald Eagle established a career in Hollywood.
He trained a range of stars including John Wayne in horse and gun handling, and served as Errol Flynn's stunt double.
In the late 1950s he joined a rodeo display team and while in Belgium met his second wife, Josee.
He continued to work as an actor and became the face of South Dakota's state tourism promotions for decades.
Outside of showbusiness, Bald Eagle's dedication to the Lakota people saw him elected as the first Chief of the United Native Nations in 2001, addressing indigenous people worldwide.
His last film role was in Neither Wolf Nor Dog, which premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival last month.
The film's director, Steven Lewis Simpson, praised Bald Eagle as truly unique.
His life was more extraordinary than of those that most great biographies are written about; the joys and the tragedies, he said.
He was an astonishingly beautiful man. The sparkle from his eyes when he smiled or was being mischievous was a joy to behold.
Rooks Funeral Home in Eagle Butte said Bald Eagle's funeral is scheduled for 29 July at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, following a traditional four-day wake.
Lead to Deadwood, South Dakota. Black Hills Destinations. Wild West.
Spending time in the towns of Lead and Deadwood is like taking a step back in time. As you walk the streets you can imagine the wild west and the characters that once roamed the Black Hills.
Lead, home of the Homestake Mining Company, was a little tamer than the gambling and brothel run town of Deadwood. Pheobe Hearst, mother of the media tycoon William Randolph Hearst, was one of the first in the nation to build a town that took care of her workers. Pheobe was responsible for building a public library, kindergarten, and an opera house. There was a community center and holiday celebrations to bring the town together. Today the longest working gold mine in the northern hemisphere is home to Stanford Labs where they are experimenting with dark matter a mile under the surface.
Deadwood was the town where you went for a drink, a woman, or a game of cards. Known for it's lawlessness and colorful characters Deadwood has a special charm of it's own. From the brick streets and matching buildings to wild west characters like Wild Bill Hickock roaming the streets this town screams wild west charm. A visit to the Black Hills would not be complete with out taking this step back in time.
