Because of its surroundings and the depth of the sinkhole, it is very difficult to throw a stone in the Red lake, so locals have legend that says if you can throw a stone in the Red Lake you will soon get married.

THE MOST BIZARRE FOOTBALL MATCH IN EUROPE - Modro Jezero Imotski - Croatia HD!
Imotski (Croatia) has two football stadiums, one on top the cliffs of Blue Lake (Modro Jezero) that's visible every day and the views from the stadium are some of the best on the Planet. But there are times when Blue Lake dries up completely and a bizarre football match takes place on the bottom of the dried up lake, with again, spectacular views of the massive cliffs of Blue Lake. This is a rare sight to see and the window of opportunity to play this football match is extremely small, because of the state of the ground and the possibility of rainfall. The last match was played in 2011, with the always same opponents, The Elves (Vilenjaci) and The Werewolves (Vukodlaci). The match ended in a draw 2: 2, as it's the rule with 400+ spectators making the walk to the bottom for this bizarre and downright funny football match.

The Blue Lake, Imotski, Croatia
Blue Lake (Croatian: Modro jezero or Plavo jezero) is a karst lake located near Imotski in southern Croatia. Like the nearby Red Lake, it lies in a deep sinkhole possibly formed by the collapse of an enormous cave.
The total depth from the upper rim is around 220 meters, while water depth varies with season. In spring, when the snow from surrounding mountains melts, it can reach 90 m, and in 1914 it reached 114 m, overflowing the southern rim. The lake is a popular destination for hiking and sight-seeing.
Maximum dimensions of the lake are around 800×500 m, but they significantly vary due to big changes in the water level. At the end of the summer the lake may completely disappear.
In 1907 a road was built descending to the lake. In 1942, an earthquake caused a large landfall resulting in reduction of the lake's depth.

***RED LAKE***
(Croatian: Crveno jezero) is a sinkhole containing a karst lake near the city of Imotski, Croatia. It is known for its numerous caves and remarkably high cliffs, reaching over 241 meters above normal water level and continuing below the water level. The total explored depth of this sinkhole is approximately 530 meters with a volume of roughly 25–30 million cubic meters, thus it is the third largest sinkhole in the world. Water drains out of the basin through underground waterways that descend below the level of the lake floor.
The sinkhole is named after the reddish-brown color of the surrounding cliffs, colored by iron oxides.
Like the nearby Blue Lake, it is presumed that the lake emerged when the ceiling of a large cave hall collapsed.
The lake is a habitat of the fish Delminichthys adspersus. In the dry period of the year, this fish can be occasionally seen in surrounding springs, rivers and lakes, suggesting that there is an underground connection between Red Lake and other water bodies.

Razina njegove vode tijekom godine znatno oscilira tako da nisu rijetke godine kada potpuno presuši. U tim slučajevima na njegovu dnu igra se nogomet. Tijekom ljetnih mjeseci uglavnom ima dovoljno vode za kupanje, a nije rijetkost ni da se igraju različiti vodeni sportovi. Posebna briga vodi se o kvaliteti vode i urednosti plaža. Postoji legenda o postanku ovog jezera zvana Gavanovi dvori.

This Sunday we have visited town of Imotski, near border with Bosnia & Herzegovinia. But the main goal of our trip is to see two dalmatian jewels - Blue & Red lake. Names are given according to the colours of water and cliffs above each one of them. There is also possiblility to swim in Blue lake and we didn´t miss that opportunity. Amazing experience!
