About Borrego Springs
Borrego Springs is located in San Diego County, California. The population was 3,429 at the 2010 census, up from 2,535 at the 2000 census, made up of both seasonal and year-round residents. Borrego Springs is completely surrounded by Anza-Borrego State Park, the largest of California's State Parks.
The village of Borrego Springs has two small shopping malls, several restaurants, accommodation and individual shops. There are no stop lights in Borrego Springs and night time lighting is kept to a minimum to protect the views of the night sky as this is an officially recognized Dark Sky international community.
A local landmark is the traffic roundabout between the airport and downtown, known as Christmas Circle. Every year in October, the community celebrates with the Borrego Days Desert Festival at Christmas Circle. The town includes a branch of the San Diego County Library.
The name of Anza-Borrego State Park is derived from a combination of Juan Baptista de Anza and borrego which is Spanish for little lamb, in honor of the local herds of bighorn sheep.

Anza Borrego - Metal Sculptures in Borrego Springs
Maybe one of the most unique and most talked about features of Anza Borrego isn't the natural beauty, but more of man made art. In the low desert a small city named Borrego Springs has some of the most amazing sculptures I have seen to date. Comprised of steal, these sculptures of fictional creatures, modern animals, prehistoric dinosaurs, and mythical creatures lace the desert like hidden gems to be found.
These sculptures an amazing mix of craftsmanship, design, and location. The desert background almost makes them look like they were walking next to you.
Thus when in the area, explore the desert and let us know what you find. And by all means, please tell us what is your favorite? Is it the Jeep, The Sea Serpent, The Phoenix, The T-Rex, or something different? We can't wait to hear from you soon and see your photos.

Art in the Desert: Metal Sculptures in Borrego Springs
I took off on a scouting trip to Borrego Springs (California) to get the images and clips for this video. My goal is to return to this desert town for several days to capture more of the Ricardo Breceda sculptures, including morning and evening shots, and produce an extended treatment. Let me add that I think Borrego Springs is a terrific offbeat destination for those looking for an easy getaway. It isn't Santa Fe, but it is becoming a bit of an artist colony. Fine dining is in short supply, but you won't go hungry, and there is a range of lodging from motels (some that time forgot) to very nice golf resorts. It is also an International Dark Sky Community, and is home to the annual Nightfall star party (that I chaired for six years).

Borrego Springs, Clark Dry Lake, Galleta Meadows Sculptures Drone
This week we decided to take the 2.5 hour drive from the LA Area down to Borrego Springs which is 90 miles east of San Diego in the Sonoran desert. Lots of off-roading and desolate surroundings for a warm Saturday excursion.
The two locations featured are:
Clark Dry Lake
T-Rex Sculpture at Galleta Meadows (There are over 100 sculptures surrounding the city of Borrego Springs). We decided to shoot the drone at this location since it was more inland with less crowds surrounding the sculptures.

Borrego Springs Ca is located 2 hours east of San Diego Ca and is surrounded by the pristine Anza Borrego State parkland. Many of the towns 3500 inhabitants lined Palm Canyon Drive and cheered the towns movers and shakers rolling along including marching bands like the Terra Cotta Middle School and Clairmont Ca groups along with the Imagine School Imperial Valley Color Guard and Drill Team.
What makes a town a US town was represented from the guys who cleans the grease traps to the local taco shop they all paraded proudly with greets and waves. The historically formidable Winchester Widows made their way past along with the Hole in the Wall Gang and parade grand marshal and valley economic hero the recently reopened 5 star resort La Casa Del Zorro glistened in the warm AM Saturday sunshine!
The United States Navy had a great Submarine Veterans Float along vets on motorcycles and old cars from generations ago all making up the social fabric or Borrego Springs.
Local Latino artist Ricardo Breceda whose big as life steel animals, vehicles and people sculptures now roam free and promote the Borrego Desert was in the parade trailed by twin T-REX captive dinosaurs! Video sound bytes from Breceda and other town locals where festivities continued at Christmas Circle. Honorary Borrego Springs Mayor Martha Deichler and Linda Haddock executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce talk about the fun 3 day festival which was visited by 15,000 people! Great live performance video and music from the Alice Wallace Band doing some countrified crowd pleasing tunes!

MEGAN & JOSH'S DESERT X ADVENTURE
When it's cloudy at the beach in San Diego and Desert X is going on. time to load up the truck and hit the road. We took the long way out, traveled through Anza Borrego to check out the desert flower super bloom and stopped by Ocotillo Wells OHV for a little Prerunner trail time. Then followed the Salton Sea north into Coachella Valley for an art scavenger hunt using GPS coordinates. Margs in Palm Springs, a couple of cold beers at pappy & Harriet's in Pioneer Town, and stayed the night in Joshua Tree. A little more exploring Sunday morning before spending the rest of the day poolside in Palm Springs.
