Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
10 Best Places to Visit in Egypt - Travel Video
With a fascinating history that reaches back to the dawn of civilization, Egypt is considered the oldest travel destination on earth. The African nation’s awe-inspiring temples and pyramids have captured the imagination of travelers for thousands of years. Although most people come to Egypt to view its ancient monuments, natural attractions beckon travelers too. The Red Sea coast is known for its coral reefs and beach resorts while a trek through the Sahara can lead visitors to a refreshing oasis. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Egypt:

Tour Company we used in Egypt:
REAL EGYPT TOURS:
We spent a month sorting through tour companies, getting quotes and itineraries for this trip.
We were nervous about safety and wanted to make sure we had a tour company that would customize a private tour for us that met our needs (with little kids and unique experiences).
We finally settled on Real Egypt Tours - with owner Samir and his office manager, Adele, they assembled an amazing itinerary for us. We never once felt unsafe (to be fair, we didn't go out much past dark:).
We had some of our most memorable experiences - from an overnight train from Cairo to Aswan (which the kids just adored), a 24 hour Felucca sail (traditional sailboat on the Nile) - where we slept under the stars overnight and ate all our meals on the boat! From exploring the lesser known Pyramids (where we were practically the only ones there), to desert dune climbs, to donkey rides through a local Luxor village, to a cooking class and dinner at a local family's home, to visiting the illuminated Luxor Temple at night (which Real Egypt suggested and was the most amazing thing to see the temple all lit up at night) to... so much more.
Every single tour guide and person we worked with was caring and went out of their way to make sure we were enjoying our time. So... we'd obviously highly recommend Real Egypt Tours if you visit Egypt!
-----
Now, there are some downsides of Egypt:
- Pollution in Cairo is really bad and the air quality in general there is quite terrible.
- The Nile River near Cairo is rather polluted and we saw people openly dumping trash into the River :( Everywhere in the world has a trash problem, but Cairo's is very visible.
- Smoking. Honestly, it's the worst. Everyone seems to smoke and you can't get away from it. Hotels, restaurants - smoking is allowed everywhere. And with kids, it is really the last thing we'd like them breathing in.
* Food was okay. There were some delicious flavors, but didn't have a wide variety of greens which we love. We love local flavors, but after a couple weeks we found the flavors to be a bit repetitive
These downsides were heavily outweighed by the monumental and once-in-a-lifetime sites we were able to thoroughly experience up close and personal along the Nile, and the people we on the Real Egypt team along with others we met were super friendly and welcoming to our little family!

EGYPT & JORDAN | Ep1: Solo Backpacking Egypt
Solo backpacking through Egypt in the first leg of my month long trip as I travel through Egypt & Jordan.
Egypt & Jordan are undoubtedly on most people's travel bucket lists, but I've always had the impression that the majority of people travel there on an organised tour.
So I wanted to give it a go by myself and see what it was like treating it like a normal backpacking trip, staying at hostel and booking everything on the go.
This first episode covers the 3 weeks I spent solo travelling around Egypt.
Starting out in Cairo, I visited the Great Pyramids at Giza as well as exploring Islamic Cairo.
Then I took the train down to Aswan, visited Abu Simbel before boarding a 2 day cruise on the Nile to Luxor.
At Luxor I visited the Valley of the Kings, Karnak and other temples.
Then I went snorkelling and scuba diving in the Red Sea at Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and Dahab.

EGYPT: Nile Cruise & Ancient Monuments (Luxor, Aswan, Giza)
Impression of Egypt along the Nile. More videos of the 7-day Nile Cruise:
Egyptian civilization have depended on the river Nile since ancient times. Most of the population and cities of Egypt lie along the Nile valley north of Aswan. Silt deposits from the Nile made the surrounding land fertile because the river overflowed its banks annually. The Ancient Egyptians cultivated and traded wheat, flax, papyrus and other crops around the Nile. The Nile was also a convenient and efficient means of transportation for people and goods. Nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along river banks.
The Nile was an important part of ancient Egyptian spiritual life and considered to be a causeway from life to death and the afterlife. The east was thought of as a place of birth and growth, and the west was considered the place of death. Thus, all tombs were west of the Nile, because the Egyptians believed that in order to enter the afterlife, they had to be buried on the side that symbolized death.

For more detailed information about each monument see the description of each individual video. Except for:
The Colossi of Memnon (51:16) are two massive stone statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III, who reigned in Egypt during the Dynasty XVIII. For the past 3,400 years (since 1350 BC), they have stood in the Theban Necropolis, located west of the River Nile from the modern city of Luxor. Two shorter figures are carved into the front throne alongside his legs: these are his wife Tiye and mother Mutemwiya. The side panels depict the Nile god Hapy.
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities (55:30), known commonly as the Egyptian Museum, in Cairo-Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms. It houses the world's largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities.
Part of the collection will be moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum set to open in 2020. It will house Tutankhamun's complete collection of between 4000 and 5000 artefacts, many of which are undergoing restoration and have never been displayed; the vast collection we have viewed at the old museum represents only about a third of the whole. The Grand Egyptian Museum is located on 50 hectares at Giza, two kilometres from the Grand Pyramids. The Egyptian Museum in Cairo will remain open.

To take pictures only in museums, a photography ticket is needed (EGP 50).
The cruise was booked via Corendon travel agency in the Netherlands/Holland.

1 week Nile Cruise + 1 week in resort (where we stayed)- all inclusive:
Optional (not included): Abu Simbel Temples (by bus), Kitchener's Island & Nubian village, Luxor Carriage ride, Luxor museum, Giza pyramids (by bus).
Our Corendon guide during the cruise was Essam Fayez (Egyptian nacionality). This excellent Dutch speaking guide contributed greatly to a fantastic holiday.

Is Egypt safe? Is Egypt dangerous? Should I travel to Egypt?
Egypt has been on my bucketlist for years! But this country gets a lot of negative media attention and a lot of people are afraid to travel to Egypt. Tourism dropped!

Now, I am so glad I did! Egypt is an amazing country, with so much history and so many beautiful things to see and explore.

Hi, I am Eileen from Belgium, nice to meet you. I started this channel two years ago but was not updating on a regular basis. After making some videos for friends and family, I realized this is something I love to do. I got inspired by some of my favorite YouTube channels such as Travellight, Kara & Nate, The Way Away and the Bucketlist Family. I accepted the challenge to visit all Belgian municipalities and because I love to travel, I do it as often as possible.

Is Egypt Safe? Everything you SHOULD and SHOULDN'T do for a safe and happy trip to Egypt.
After spending one month in Egypt, and getting the question asked a TON, I decided to clear things up and let y'all know if Egypt is a safe place to travel to in 2019. There's been a lot in the news lately, with British Airways and Lufthansa cancelling flights, and tourism taking a dip over the past few years, so here's my take on traveling to Egypt as a woman in 2019. You'll also get a list of 10 things you SHOULD do for a safe trip in Egypt, and 3 things you SHOULDN'T.
I travelled here with my fiance, and we stayed mostly with his family, all of whom are from Cairo and speak Arabic. Although I was lucky enough to have them looking after me, I did my best to understand what it would have been like in this country if I hadn't been so lucky. I also had a couple of female friends visit - and they spent some time out on their own in Cairo so I got a couple of tips from them too :)
If you have any questions, or if I missed something, let me know if the comments below!
Hope you enjoy, and we can't wait to share our next video about Dahab with you!! (Coming as soon as the WiFi in Cappadocia allows!)
