City of migrants - Via Genoa
Genoa is a haven city in Italy. In Genoa, tens of thousands of african migrants arrive, and the city and its inhabitants are overwhelmed by this flood of men. Administratively, the migrants are stuck in Genoa, and the locals have to live with the migrants, the ciminality, and the shift in Genoa's culture, highly visible in the emblematic street Via di Pré.
In the first episode of the VPRO travel series Via Genoa, Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer leads us through the Italian port city of Genoa. He speaks with residents about their changing city, and is looking for stories about migration.
In this first episode Ilja identifies the problems: in the neighborhood, many unemployed African migrants live, and many migrants do not have a residence permit. To have a residence permit they need an employment contract. But there are no jobs for migrants. For this reason, via di Prè became a criminal street, where you avoid eye contact and keep on walking. Even locals do not want to go on Via di Pré anymore.
The new police boss, Sergia Bracco, increased the number of patrols in central Genoa. The reason for this was the neighborhood residents and shopkeepers complaining, the terrorist attacks in other European cities and the various fake bombings in the city. Regular military and police patrols roam the city.
Every day, new Africans arrive in Genoa looking for work that doesn't seem to be real. At present, these are mostly young men from West Africa. In Lampedusa and the reception centers in Sicily they are divided among the Italian municipalities. Genoa currently has over 3000 registered asylum seekers. In the last month of December, tens of thousands came up daily. During the winter season, there are fewer arrivals on the southern Italian coasts, but the prospects are that 2017 will be another record year.
This shows how Italy has changed on the wings of migration over recent decades. Italians traded their salami, cheeses and vegetables and fruits for Senegalese seafood restaurants, Nigerian barbers and Moroccan kebab stores. During the nightly hours, the Italians in this part of the city can be counted on one hand.
In this VPRO travel series Via Genoa, writer Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer speaks with the colorful inhabitants of his hometown, the Italian port city of Genoa. Pfeiffer shows how Italy changes politically, socially and economically with all the newcomers.

MSC Fantasia Cruise Ship Tour - Mediterranean Shipping Company Cruise Line
English Captions Available!!!
MSC Fantasia is an Italian Fantasia class cruise ship that claimed and worked by MSC Cruises Line. She entered administration service in December 2008. She was the biggest and largest cruise ship ever made by MSC Cruise Line, alongside her sister ship MSC Splendida, until the passageway to administration of MSC Divina (2012) and MSC Preziosa (2013).
MSC Fantasia was conveyed to MSC Cruises on 11 December 2008. She was formally named on 18 December 2008, in Naples by Sophia Loren, and began on her first journey on the same date. Since her first voyage, this vessel has been the lead of the organization.
The MSC Fantasia is in vogue and environmental, adjusting the glow and solace of the Mediterranean air with bleeding edge plan.
At its heart you'll locate a genuine stone piazza complete with a coffee bar serving newly heated cakes and valid gelati - the ideal spot to remove a minute from deal chasing in the chic boutiques and obligation free focus adjacent.
Appreciate the metropolitan climate of our architect themed lounge bars with gourmet specialities and fluctuated excitement, including a piano bar, jazz bar and Sports Bar with videogames and live occasion screenings. The eateries offer a remarkable feasting knowledge, from the excellent Il Cerchio d'Oro and the close Red Velvet with genuine Murano glass crystal fixtures to El Sombrero's Tex-Mex and mixed drinks.

Nervi (Genova - Italy) in Second Life ♣ Appunti di viaggio ♣
Vedremo come andrà a finire...

Gala is a top dance music artist; she’s renowned for her minimal look and recognizable voice. Bearing the name of the muse of Salvador Dali and Paul Eluard, Gala left Italy when she was only 17 to attend a school of arts in Boston and moved to New York in 1993, where she portrayed music and underground art community.
Gala sold over 6 million records all over the world. Her debut album Come Into My Life (dated 1997) includes multiplatinum singles: ”Freed from Desire” (#2 in UK and present for 8 weeks in a row in UK Top10 charts), Let A Boy Cry (#3 in Hot 100 european charts) and Come Into My Life (#1 in Italy, Spain and Brasil).
In 1996 Gala was elected Best Female Performer of the Year by Italian magazine Musica e Dischi. In July 1997 she has been awarded with the Italian Dance Award as best pop/dance artist of the year and was elected Best Foreign Artist of the year at Midem in Cannes, France. Gala has been awarded with golden and platinum records in France and Benelux and with a golden record in the UK. In the same year she gained a nomination as Best Dance Act at Mobo Awards in the UK together with Prodigy, Chemical Brothers e Orbital. Between 1995 and 1998 Gala attended several TV shows such as BBC’s Top Of The Pop in the UK, Taratata, Les Année Tubes and Hit Machine on Canal M6 in France, MTV Germany and performed live in famous arenas such as Bercy stadium in Paris and Las Ventanas in Madrid.
In 2014 Frida Gold project presented the song Liebe ist meine rebellion, German remake of Freed from desire, and went gold in Germany!
In 2016 Sean Kennedy, supporter of Wigan Athletic FC, decided to “customize” Freed From Desire and dedicate it to the amazing performances of Will Grigg in League One. It quickly became a real anthem, first for Wigan’s supporters and then for those of Northern Ireland, who never miss the chance to cheer for their idol.
To celebrate her first 20 years, Gala is back with a new acoustic version, fully played and sung again and included in the soundtrack of the recent movie by Laurent Tirard titled Un homme à la hauteur, with Oscar-winning actor Jean Dujardin (The Artist).
Ann Clair Salumeria's Big Sandwich
Family-owned Ann Clair's Salumeria has been the home of The Big Sandwich in the East Bronx neighborhood of Morris Park for more than 40 years. It takes roughly 15 minutes and seven pounds of meat to make a six-foot long hero sandwich. On any given day, Ann Clair's makes five or 10 Big Sandwiches for family celebrations or corporate affairs, but will turn out 150 to 180 of them on Super Bowl Sunday--almost as many as on New Year's Eve. To meet the demand, Ann Clair's will hire an extra 14 sandwich-makers.
In this video Louis Reyes shows how the Italian Combo Big Sandwich is made. First he hollows out the top and bottom of the loaf of bread to make room for the shredded lettuce, tomato slices and roasted sweet peppers--and the seven pounds of meat and cheese that he layers on. Ham, Genoa salami, pepperoni, cappicola, prosciutto, mortadella and sliced provolone cheese. This party hero is $15.75 per foot, plus tax. For $3.00 a foot more you can get enough potato salad, cole slaw, macaroni salad, olive salad and pickles to feed a crowd.
Any of Ann Clair's specialty sandwiches can be made into a Big Sandwich, including my favorite, The Godmother--ham, cappicola, sweet suppressata, provolone, fried eggplant and roasted sweet peppers. A super-sized version of these sandwiches will run you $17.50 a foot.

*J-Stadium Cerimoniale d'inaugurazione FULL* [8 settembre 2011]
