Northampton, MA: Elevator at 78 Main Street in Downtown Northampton
This afternoon when I went to the No Tuesday Market I decided to film a video of the elevator at 78 Main Street in Downtown Northampton. The elevator is a Otis traction elevator it was installed in 1999 replacing a manually operated birdcage style elevator. This is one of the fastest elevators in Downtown Northampton, MA!!!
NICE Otis Compass Traction Elevators at Westin Byward Market, Ottawa, ON
Very Nice Elevators!!!!! Not very fast, but not very slow either. These used to be Turnbull (Dover) Elevators, but modded in 2013 with Otis Compass!!!! They also have the Bilingual French/English Otis Voice!!!! These are very smooth and really cool! Not much else to say about these, let's ride 'em!
Installed: 1982 (Turnbull [Dover] with Traditional fixtures or Square White Buttons)
Modernized: 2013 (Otis Compass with MAD BS Moon controls inside)
Elevator at Independence Wharf, Boston MA
Nice traction elevator up to the free public observatory at the Independence Wharf building in Boston, MA! I took a ride to the top with some buddies while I was on a trip.
The observation deck is open most afternoons - just ask the security officer in the lobby to go up.
11th Digital Dealer Conference & Exposition Speaker Eric Brown
Turn Dead Leads into New Sales -- Bet on It!
New technology and advanced Cloud Intelligence analytics now empowers dealers to review dead leads into new leads and greater sales
Advanced web 2.0 visitor recognition technology and advanced data analytics provides unprecedented visibility into auto shopper behavior and online shopping activity. By combining these technologies dealers can identify which current and past leads are currently shopping for a new car on the Internet and what they are shopping for. Further, free in market lead analysis services can take a dealer customer database and identify those with current auto shopping activity as well.
Next step is to use the customer's behavior to customize your phone and email messaging and reanimate those dead leads or past customers into new prospects.
What action items will attendees take back to the dealerships?
1. How to identify dead leads which are still actively shopping for a new car
2. How new technical advances change current industry paradigms
3. How to use auto shopper behavior to engage and motivate auto shoppers to reengage
4. How to use advanced analytics to close more sales
Eric Brown is CEO and co-founder of Dataium. Dataium provides advanced analytics and visitor recognition technology to the auto industry. Currently the company serves four of the top 10 OEMs, automotive portals and research companies along with numerous dealership groups, across the United States and Canada. Brown is a Fox Business Network contributor and author for various publications. He once appeared on NBC hit show, ER. Cambridge Talks X | Bound and Unbound: The Sites of Utopia Panel Two
4/15/16
In the five hundred years since the publication of Thomas More’s Of A Republic’s Best State and of the New Island of Utopia (1516), the project of imagining an ideal society has emerged as simultaneously regenerative and devastating on multiple fronts: for the concept of the polity, for the composition of social fabrics, and, most relevant from the vantage of the design disciplines, for the formation of buildings, cities, and territories. This year’s Cambridge Talks, now in its tenth edition, aims to provide a spectrum of exemplary instances of utopia’s modern guise.
In the main conference panels, we bring together speakers to address the rivalry between those utopian endeavors that organize space mainly through social relations and production, and those whose expansive impulse searches out some form of technical mastery over spatial configuration. In other words, utopia can be understood as either embodied or totalizing, bound or unbound. By taking examples from the 19th and 20th centuries, the case studies presented here—from communes and plantations to infrastructural projects and global ecologies—exhibit various attempts to imagine social conditions alongside spatial ones. A concluding discussion will touch upon the philosophical and theoretical ramifications of utopia today.

Cambridge Talks IX Keynote by Reinhold Martin, Infrastructure, Media, and Power-Knowledge...
Reinhold Martin, author of The Organizational Complex (MIT Press, 2003), will present the keynote lecture for Cambridge Talks IX: Inscriptions of Power; Spaces, Institutions, and Crisis. Beginning but not ending with Michel Foucault’s elusive, omnipresent “power-knowledge” couplet, this talk will examine the aesthetic and technical properties of certain infrastructures through which this couplet is manifest. These infrastructures, which could be called architectural, will mainly be found in research universities in the United States during the late nineteenth century, with genealogical ties to the business corporation. I will try, however, also to show the limits of transferring the Foucauldian analytic directly onto architecture as commonly construed. Likewise for the “new materialism” that has more recently shed significant light on the multifarious life of “things.” Instead, a “gay science” of corporate power, centered on the university, can only arise during those brief intervals when architecture appears, repeatedly, as one among many media.
The Visual Workings of Roman Slave Sales
The Visual Workings of Roman Slave Sales
Ancient Studies Week
Thursday, October 10, 2019
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Library and Gallery, Albin O. Kuhn
Jennifer Trimble, Associate Professor of Classics, Stanford University
Slavery was a fundamental part of ancient Roman society, as was visual culture. We know a lot about these two topics separately, but we know much less about how slavery and visual culture interacted. In this talk, Dr. Trimble will show and discuss how the visual played a crucial role in defining and enforcing slavery for both enslaved and free people. What people saw was crucial to how they understood and experienced Roman slavery.
A reception and book signing will follow the program.
Bio: Jennifer Trimble works on art and archaeology of the Roman Empire. Her research and teaching interests include the visual culture of Roman slavery, portraits and replication, gender, comparative urbanism, and ancient mapping. Dr. Trimble was co-director of the IRC-Oxford-Stanford excavations in the Roman Forum, which studied the interactions of commercial, religious and monumental space. She also co-directed Stanford's Digital Forma Urbis Romae Project, a collaboration between computer scientists and archaeologists to help reassemble a fragmentary ancient map of the city of Rome. Her book Women and Visual Replication in Roman Imperial Art and Culture (Cambridge University Press, 2011) considers how the visual sameness of female portrait statues, with bodies that are all identical, helped construct public identity. She is currently at work on Seeing Roman Slaves about the intersections of Roman slavery and visual culture.

The Map Thief
The Map Thief: The Gripping Story of an Esteemed Rare-Map Dealer Who Made Millions Stealing Priceless Maps
Maps have long exerted a special fascination on viewers—both as beautiful works of art and as practical tools to navigate the world. But to those who collect them, the map trade can be a cutthroat business. Author Michael Blanding, in his book The Map Thief, describes the life of E. Forbes Smiley, a once considered respectable antiquarian map dealer, who spent years doubling as a map thief—until he was finally arrested for slipping maps out of books in the Yale University library. A book signing follows the program.
