Highpointing: Campbell Hill, the highest point in Ohio – Rooftops of America
We visit Campbell Hill, the rooftop of Ohio. Located in Logan County near the town of Bellefontaine, (a quick apology for my mispronunciation of it) the highest point in the state of Ohio has an elevation of 1,549 feet. It is in the Bellefontaine Outlier of the Ohio glacial till plains. We look at the history of the hill through the people that owned it throughout the years, it’s time as an Air Force station, and nowadays as an educational institution. Join us as we explore America and go highpointing!

Campbell Hill - the highest point in Ohio - 472 metres (1,550 feet)
Campbell Hill, the highest point in Ohio, is located in the city Bellefontaine, the seat of Logan County. The peak is the former home of the Bellefontaine Air Force Station, where the 664th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron maintained a Cold War era early warning radar. Currently, the summit is now the property of the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. Since this is private property, please check the requirements for legal access to the highpoint.

Campbell Hill - Ohio State High Point
The highest point in Ohio is Campbell Hill at 1,549 feet. This highpoint is really easy to get to, considering you can drive right to the summit. The only major issue is access. Campbell Hill is on the campus of the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, which is open M-F 6:30 AM to 10 PM. On Saturdays the gates are open from 7 AM to 7 PM. For Sunday access you will need to call (937) 599-3010 to make advanced arrangements. These times are subject to change, so check before you go.
Campbell Hill is capped with a couple of benches, a flag pole, an Ohio Historical Marker and a USGS marker.
Fun fact: A petition to rename the mountain after former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin appeared on the White House's Web site in 2015; it was an attempt to satirize the Department of the Interior’s decision to change the name of Alaska's Mount McKinley back to the original Native name of Denali that year.
Route: The short walkway from parking to the highpoint.

The Highest Point in Ohio - Campbell Hill
A brief look around Campbell Hill, the highest point in Ohio. May 20, 2012. On return trip back from Dayton's Hamvention.
Campbell Hill, the Highest Point in Ohio
My dad and I stand at the highest point in a generally low state- Ohio. At 1,549 feet above sea level, Campbell Hill is the highest point in Ohio, though surprisingly, it's located next to a vocational school (We know because we had to wait for the students to cross the road before we could get to the high point).

Highest Point in Ohio and Chief Leatherlips Monument [CeleGREAT OUTDOORS]
Campbell Hill is currently located inside a fenced-in school area, named the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. It’s only 1,549 feet above sea level and you can park right beside the highpoint. They have little “certificates of achievement” which you can fill out as proof that you were there. I then headed to see an eleven foot tall, stone sculpture which you’re actually allowed to stand on as well. The Chief Leatherlips Monument was created by Ralph Helmick, in honor of an old Wyandot chief who was said to never break a promise, with the white man or his fellow natives. His life might not have ended too beautifully but the park where the monument is located is said to have been the location of his final hunting camp.
HOW DO YOU GET HERE?
You’ll have to drive inside the fenced in area, of the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in Bellefontaine, Ohio, to get to Ohio’s highpoint, but you can park in a lot right beside the highpoint, if you click here for directions:
The highpoint is underneath those trees, up and to the right of where you’ll be parking. If you’re coming to see the highpoint during the day, then you should have no problem driving up to the parking lot, unless it’s a Sunday. The gate you have to drive through isn’t open at all hours, but they told me that there is a gate you can walk through, at any time of the day. So, if the gate isn’t open for you to drive through, then just park your car, walk through the smaller gate and you’re good to go!
To get to the Chief Leatherlips Monument, click here for directions:
If you switch to satellite view, you can actually see the monument off to the left of the parking lot; it looks like a white V out in the lawn.
