In 2016, RTBF’s program “Code Adventure” made a stopover in Tanzania for a special trip among the Masai with Khyl, an 11-year-old Belgian. Welcomed by a Masai shepherd of his age, he was given the chance to discover the work of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Belgium and the daily reality of these semi-nomadic herders whose most valuable asset is their livestock.

En 2016, l'émission « Code Aventure » de la RTBF a fait escale en Tanzanie pour un voyage exceptionnel chez les Masai, en compagnie de Khyl, jeune belge de 11 ans. Accueilli par un berger masai de son âge, il a pu découvrir le travail de Vétérinaires Sans Frontières et la réalité quotidienne de ces éleveurs semi-nomades qui prennent soin de leur bien le plus précieux : leurs troupeaux.

My 13-year-old son, Aidan, and I have been touched by the story of Neema House, a home for infant children in Arusha, Tanzania. This home and the people who work there help children who's mothers have died or abandonned them for various reasons. They nurse the babies back to health, loving and nurturing them, until they can return to their families or be adopted. There is no doubt that many of these children would die without their care.

Neema House is in the process of building a new housing complex for their babies that would also include a home for older children, and a widow's home. This new Neema Village will change the lives of hundreds of women and children in Tanzania for the better.

Aidan and I wanted to find a way to help Neema Village. As a way to help raise funds for the continued operation of Neema House and the construction of Neema Village, Aidan and I want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro June 12-23, 2017. This climb for the kids of Tanzania will give us an opportunity to donate a sizeable amount to the ministry at Neema House, volunteer at Neema House working with the babies and helping in whatever way we can, and allow us the opportunity to experience God's wonderous creation from the top of the tallest mountain in Africa.

The veterinary surgeon and her team ensures that M 18 is well looked after and in good health while the conservation team start measuring and preparing the large male for collaring.



September 2013 - Two Cape leopards (Panthera pardus), a large male (M 18) and a pregnant female (Crystal), have been caught and collared with highly sophisticated Iridium satellite collars for research purposes in the Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve in the Cederberg, by Dr Quinton Martins and his team from the Cape Leopard Trust (CLT).

Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat has been a major sponsor of The Cape Leopard Trust since its inception nine years ago. The project launched in August 2004 as an active predator conservation working group in the Cape, using research as a tool for conservation, finding solutions to human-wildlife conflict, and inspiring interest in the environment through an interactive and dynamic environmental education programme. Over 20 leopards have been collared since then, four of them at Bushmans Kloof, forming part of a long term research and monitoring project.

Olduvai Gorge

Olduvai Gorge, or Oldupai Gorge, in Tanzania is one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world; it has proven invaluable in furthering understanding of early human evolution. A steep-sided ravine in the Great Rift Valley that stretches across East Africa, it is about 48 km long, and is located in the eastern Serengeti Plains in the Arusha Region not far, about 45 km, from Laetoli, another important archaeological site of early human occupation. The British/Kenyan paleoanthropologist-archeologist team Mary and Louis Leakey established and developed the excavation and research programs at Olduvai Gorge which achieved great advances of human knowledge and world-renown status.
Homo habilis, probably the first early human species, occupied Olduvai Gorge approximately 1.9 million years ago; then came a contemporary australopithecine, Paranthropus boisei, 1.8 mya, and then Homo erectus, 1.2 mya. Homo sapiens is dated to have occupied the site 17,000 years ago.
