Forest of Dean MTB - What a place to ride!
This was my first time riding at the Forest of Dean back in July 2018. Had a great day out with some awesome friends, and barely scratched the surface of many great trails here. Can't wait to get back out there in 2019 and explore some more.

Idiots' Guide to Riding The Forest of Dean

Downhill MTB Trails Forest of Dean
Fod downhill trails are plentiful and have loads of fun flowy sections with some decent jumps and tech lines.
Forest of Dean Cycle Centre is just outside of South Wales Near Gloucester. There is a large car park which is around £5 per day (ish).
There are other free parking areas scattered around the large forest.
The post code below will take you to the main centre which has an on site bike shop, hot food, bike wash and home of the Uplift service.
The uplift service gets very busy during weekends, you can book here...
Or you can pedal/push to the top of the DH trail head in about 30 mins.
In the bike park there is roughly 7/8 DH trails that vary in difficulty and all have multiple splits on the way down. There is nothing super gnarly here but enough for the trails to test every ability of rider.
There is also a skills area to practice on aswell as a pump track and a couple of fun Enduro/xc loops at about an 1hr loop each.
If you fancy trying something else other than biking then there is a Go Ape and plenty of walkers trails. If you want to try biking they do bike hire from the on site shop and there is a family trail to cruise on.

Kara and I recently visited the Forest of Dean however it was super wet so we decided to go back and give it a go in the dry!
The trails in the forest are epic offering some technical downhill, steep fast sections and jumps...
to make things even better we were riding the e bikes... making climbing to the top super easy!

Forest of Dean Countdown into Launchpad
Cold wet and 8am in the morning. Feet cold. Hands cold. But still I got out and had a ride. Couldn't feel the pedals with my feet so wasn't great.
Forest of Dean - Diversions and Downhill
Heading towards the end of year, I finally took the recommendation of a few people to check out Forest of Dean (a.k.a. FoD!). Its pretty varied from entry level blue and a very 'cross country' based red route.
Lots of room for any aspiring rider but only the downhill and the illusive off-piste routes will challenge the more experienced out there.
Next time it'll be off into the wilderness....
