BEST TIPS for SAVING ON RENTAL CARS - 2020 - How to Rent a Vehicle for cheaper Auto rates
SUBSCRIBE HERE!!
#Auto #RentalCar Appreciate the Advice? You can tip the video producer at How do I rent a car, truck, or SUV? How do I get the best available rate on a car rental? Where do I find the best deals on an auto rental? #car #carrental #carrentalservice #carhire #rentacar #carrentals #rentalcar #luxurycars #hourlycab #pickanddrop
From the Author of How to Beat the Dealers Finance Office, Car Scam of the Decade, and 13 Car Buying Mistakes, these are the top ten best tips on renting a car. What's the cheapest way to rent a car? Do you know the true cost of a car rental? Find out why you shouldn't rent a car at the Airport! Business Travel? Going on vacation? Hitting the road soon? HITTING the road this summer? Better get booking early.
As the busy summer car-rental season begins, prices are expected to climb. “In early June through the end of August, these rates will spike,” said Neil Abrams, president of Abrams Consulting Group, which tracks the car rental industry. Last July, for example, the average rate for a weekly airport rental of a compact car booked seven days ahead was $369.62, or 56 percent more than the $236.73 charged in March, according to the Abrams Travel Data Index.
Let go of name brands. Look beyond Avis, Hertz and other big national chains to independent agencies like Payless and Fox Rent a Car. Because of lower operating costs, their cars, which can be found at Web sites like CarRentals.com and CarRentalExpress.com, typically cost 15 to 30 percent less than rentals from mainstream agencies. Another company with an unfamiliar name, at least to most Americans, is the German agency Sixt, which has begun opening branches in the southeastern United States, including in Atlanta, Miami and Orlando, Fla. To boost brand recognition, the company, whose fleet includes BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes and Volkswagens, is offering deep discounts. For example, a Mercedes C-class cost $38.81 a day in late May at Sixt’s Orlando airport location, according to a recent search. By comparison, the lowest rate offered by Hertz for the same dates was $50.57 a day for a Kia Rio or similar economy car.
Negotiate. Even after you’ve booked the best possible rate, it can be worth swinging by the rental counter to see if you can finagle your way into a better car. “You don’t ask, you don’t get,” said Mr. Abrams, the rental car consultant. Success with this strategy can depend on everything from the type and number of cars on the lot to the mood of the clerk, he added. But some companies are happy to put you in a bigger, or less popular, vehicle for the cost of a compact — if it’s in their interest.
“I frequently need minivans for the volunteer activities I do with teens,” said Marty Paz, the car-rental rate hacker, who has noticed by perusing the parking lot that there is often a glut of minivans at one location he frequently rents from on the weekend. “Often times I’ve reserved an economy car for a Friday and just offered graciously: ‘If there’s a van, I’ll take that. I don’t mind,’ and for the price of the economy car I get the minivan.” (A larger vehicle, of course, will require more fuel.)
Prepay. Taking a page from hotels, rental car companies are offering discounts of up to 20 percent to travelers willing to prepay. In a recent search for weekly rentals at Boston Logan International Airport in mid June, for example, Hertz was offering economy cars for $173 a week at the “pay now” rate. The “pay later” rate was about $30 more. The trade off for locking in a low-rate? Cancellation penalties ranging from $10 with Budget to $50 if canceling within 24 hours with Hertz. And don’t forget about Priceline.com and Hotwire.com, which offer deep discounts to travelers willing to be locked into a preset price before finding out the rental car company.

Information about Car Rental conditions
Car rentals are subject to many conditions which vary from one country to another and from one company to another. Generally the vehicle must be returned in the same condition it was rented in, and often must not exceed mileage restrictions, otherwise extra fees may be incurred.
For insurance reasons, some companies stipulate a minimum and/or maximum rental age. In some cases, the minimum age for rental can be as high as 25, even in countries where the minimum legal age to hold a driver's license is much lower, e.g. 14,15,16 or 17 in the United States. It is not uncommon for there to be a young driver surcharge for all drivers aged under 25.
In all cases a valid driver's license is required in order to rent a vehicle, and some countries require an International Driving Permit (IDP).
The majority of car rental companies require the use of a credit card to charge additional fees should a defect be found with the car on its return or for road tolls, motoring related fines, or missing fuel. In lieu of a credit card, some companies require a large cash deposit. Some companies, such as Enterprise, permit a debit card for deposits, typically with proof of a round-trip travel ticket, e.g. an airline, bus, or train ticket.

Thanks to Audrey Kennedy for the help! If you need a travel agent, she's the best!
FEATURED IN THIS VIDEO:
How to Get into the City:
- From Pisa Airport (Gallilei Gallileo Intl Airport): Take the Pisamover to Pisa Centrale Station, and buy a ticket to Florence (Santa Maria Novella Station)
- From Florence Airport (Peretola)
Cheapest option is the new Tram from T2 to Santa Maria Novella Station in Florence.
Or just hop in a cab)
How to Skip The Lines:
(VERY IMPORTANT TO AVOID SPENDING HOURS IN LINES!)
- The most user friendly website for reserving skip the line reserved ticket times (for the Uffizi Gallery and the Academia Gallery (Michelangelo's David) is:
(But you’ll pay more of a fee…but it is user friendly)
- The official ticketing website for the Uffizi Gallery and The David is B-ticket:
(Less user-friendly, but a cheaper ticket price…and it’s not that hard to figure it out)
- The official site for reserving a climb for the Duomo is here (this will also include entrance into all of the attractions of the Duomo):
- You can also call to book a time at the Uffizi and David by calling this number from a US phone:
011-39-055-294-883
- Or this number from an Italian phone:
055-294-883
You can also sometimes book through your hotel (if you’re staying at a hotel)
Or go with a small group tour like ArtVivia (more expensive, but highly recommended):
Food:
- All’Antico Vinaio
- Gustapizza
- Le Volpi e L’Uva
- Trattoria Mario
- Trattoria Za Za
- Zeb
- Cibrèo Trattoria
- Osteria Santo Spirito
- L’Osteria di Giovanni
- Trattoria Giovanni
Gelato:
- Venchi
- Vivoli
- Gelateria La Carraia
- Gelateria Artigianale La Strega Nocciola
- Gelateria Santa Trinita
- My Sugar
- Gelateria Dei Neri (one of my two favorites)
- Perché No (my favorite)
Neighborhoods/Piazzas/Sites:
- Piazza della Signoria
- Ponte Vecchio (Make sure to climb to the top)
- Oltrarno (Across any of the bridged on the other side of the Arno River)
- San Frediano
- Santo Spirito
- Walk along the Arno River
Markets:
- Mercato Centrale
- Mercato di San Lorenzo
- Loggia del Mercato Nuovo
- Sant’Ambrogio Market
Michaelangelo’s David:
Galleria dell’Accademia
(Again…make sure to book an advanced entrance time)
Other Museums/Art/History:
- Uffizi Gallery (BOOK AHEAD)
- Palazzo Vecchio
- Palazzo Pitti
Churches:
- Duomo di Firenze, also the Crypt below, the Baptistry, and Giotto’s Bell Tower (though as I said in the video…you’ll get as a good a view of the city from climbing the Palazzo Vecchio with FAR FEWER crowds)
- Basilica di Santa Croce (burial site of famous Italians)
- Medici Chapel (also the family tomb for the Medici)
Parks/Nature:
- Boboli Gardens (Beautiful impressive huge park)
- Giardino Bardini (My favorite park in the city)
- Rent a bike and ride through the hills above Florence. Best route (in my opinion) Head across the Ponte all Grazie (Bridge), and bike up the hills above Piazzale Michaelangelo.
Views of the City:
- la Rinascente (4th floor…up the green stairs)
- Rooftop bar of the Westin Excelsior
- Watch the Sunset on the St Trinity Bridge
Tuscany:
(I rented a car…I think it cost me around 50 Euros for the day)
- Day Trip/Wine Tour of Tuscany (There are many options for tours…I loved the small group half/day tour with Prestige rent…I found it on Trip Advisor (linked here):
- Siena (if you only visit one town in Tuscany…make it Siena. Also take the bus, not the train)
- San Gimignano (Can be seen on the same day as Siena as they’re close by)
- Pisa
- Lucca (aerial shot of Lucca is from videoblocks.com)
PLACES I DIDN’T HAVE TIME TO FEATURE:
Restaurants:
- Osteria Vini e Vecchi Sapori (VERY POPULAR spot. Reservations are a must)

Driving in Italy - Returning Rental Car in Rome Termini Station
Driving in Italy - Returning your rental car to termini station in Rome.
This video shows you the experience of returning our rental car coming in from the South on E80 then A24.
We were following Google maps and of course it cut out on us when we got into the city of Rome. This video is NOT a step by step instruction but shows you the experience.
If you don't want to hear us talking, TURN OFF THE SOUND you will not miss anything.
These video are supposed to take the fear and mythology out there about driving in Italy. It is easier than you will read about on the internet. I hope these videos help!
I was using a Crosstour CR900 dash cam to record our journey. It records sound so we tried to be good.
On the plane home I made this note about driving in Italy:
Traffic flowed
No road rage
No hostility
Cooperative
Aggressive
Giving
Fair
Assertive
Patient
Forgiving
In a symbiotic relationship
Felt like being in a family
Respectful
Helpful
Not much texting and driving, like they take driving serious
People were going super slow and super fast but most were going moderately.
Saw no accidents
Felt like we were all water flowing
Not a lot of stopping at stop signs
They stopped at lights
There no ownership of roads or lanes
I saw one police car in 1200 miles of driving
~~~~~~~~~
As to who should drive in Italy and who shouldn't:
If you’re music preference is:
Improvisational, do
If it is Classical, don’t.
When cooking or baking, if you follow the recipe to a T, don’t.
If you put a little of this and a little of that into a recipe, do.
If you are a hacker, do.
If you believe antivirus software will protect you , don’t.
If you believe you have to be able to do something before you try it, don’t.
if you believe that a part of learning is making mistakes, do.
If you see the world in black-and-white, don’t.
If you see the world in shades of gray, do.
If you ever order something off a menu and you have no idea what it is, do.
If you only oerder what you already know, don't
If you are territorial and believe in ownership, don’t.
If you get along collectively with people, do.
If you have ever used the phrase “he who hesitates is lost“, do.
If you tend to be a nice driver and let people into your lane, don’t.
If you tend to be an defensive person, don’t.
If you can transition between aggressiveness and giving, do.
If you were judgmental, don’t.
If you are forgiving, do.
if you believe in following every law & rule, don’t.
If you tend to think of rules as suggestions, do.
if you are a road rager, don’t.
If you believe people can cut you off while driving, don’t.
If you feel everyone should follow the rules of the road, don’t.
If you believe lanes are designed to indicate where cars travel, don’t.
If you sometimes like driving really slow and do it in the right lane, do.
If you believe there’s a speed limit and everyone should follow it, don’t.
If you believe the left lane is for passing, do.
If you believe there’s a speed limit and it doesn’t matter what lane you’re in, don’t.
I hope this helps!
Florence landscape, Florence, Tuscany, Italy, Europe
Florence, is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and of the province of Florence. It is the most populous city in Tuscany, with approximately 370,000 inhabitants, expanding to over 1.5 million in the metropolitan area. Florence is famous for its history. A centre of medieval European trade and finance and one of the wealthiest cities of the time, Florence is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, and has been called the Athens of the Middle Ages. A turbulent political history includes periods of rule by the powerful Medici family, and numerous religious and republican revolutions. From 1865 to 1871 the city was also the capital of the recently established Kingdom of Italy. The historic centre of Florence attracts millions of tourists each year, and Euromonitor International ranked the city as the world's 72nd most visited in 2009, with 1,685,000 visitors. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982. Due to Florence's artistic and architectural heritage, it has been ranked by Forbes as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and the city is noted for its history, culture, Renaissance art and architecture and monuments. The city also contains numerous museums and art galleries, such as the Uffizi Gallery and the Pitti Palace, amongst others, and still exerts an influence in the fields of art, culture and politics. Florence is also an important city in Italian fashion, being ranked within the top fifty fashion capitals of the world; furthermore, it is also a major national economic centre, being a tourist and industrial hub. In 2008, the city had the 17th highest average income in Italy. Florence lies in a basin formed by the hills of Careggi, Fiesole, Settignano, Arcetri, Poggio Imperiale and Bellosguardo (Florence). The Arno river and three other minor rivers flow through it. Tourism is the most significant industry in central Florence. From April to October, tourists outnumber local population. Tickets to the Uffizi and Accademia museums are regularly sold out and large groups regularly fill the basilicas of Santa Croce and Santa Maria Novella, both of which charge for entry. In 2010, readers of Travel + Leisure magazine ranked the city as their third favourite tourist destination. Studies by Euromonitor International have concluded that cultural and history-oriented tourism is generating significantly increased spending throughout Europe. Florence is believed to have the greatest concentration of art (in proportion to its size) in the world. Thus, cultural tourism is particularly strong, with world-renowned museums such as the Uffizi selling over 1.6 million tickets a year. The city's convention centre facilities were restructured during the 1990s and host exhibitions, conferences, meetings, social forums, concerts and other events all year. Florence has approximately 35,000 hotel beds and 23,000 other accommodation facilities (campsites, guesthouses, youth hostels and farmhouses), giving potential for overall stays to exceed 10 million visitor/nights a year. Visitors also include thousands of day-trippers brought in by cruise ships (to Livorno) and by road and rail. In 2007, the city ranked as the world's 59th most visited city, with over 1.729 million arrivals for the year. It has been estimated that just under one-third of tourists are Italians, the remainder comprising Americans (20%), Germans (13%), Japanese (8%), Britons (7.8%), French (5.7%) and Spaniards (5%). Florence has a legendary artistic heritage. Cimabue and Giotto, the fathers of Italian painting, lived in Florence as well as Arnolfo and Andrea Pisano, renewers of architecture and sculpture; Brunelleschi, Donatello and Masaccio, forefathers of the Renaissance, Ghiberti and the Della Robbias, Filippo Lippi and Angelico; Botticelli, Paolo Uccello and the universal genius of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Their works, together with those of many other generations of artists, are gathered in the several museums of the town: the Uffizi Gallery, the Palatina gallery with the paintings of the Golden Ages, the Bargello with the sculptures of the Renaissance, the museum of San Marco with Fra Angelico's works, the Academy, the chapels of the Medicis Buonarroti's house with the sculptures of Michelangelo, the following museums: Bardini, Horne, Stibbert, Romano, Corsini, The Gallery of Modern Art, the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, the museum of Silverware and the museum of Precious Stones.
