Saint Sebastian Cemetery
Conveniently located next to our hotel. On Easter Sunday, we visited the cemetery of Saint Sebastian. Turns out to be the final resting place of Constance Mozart (his wife) and Leopold Mozart (his father). This cemetery began in the year 1600. Saint Sebastian was the fellow that they tried to kill with arrows. Apparently, he managed to live through that!
Going Deep into Salzburg's Past
St. Sebastian Cemetery is a quiet oasis in Salzburg. Follow me for a little walk and enjoy a rare opportunity to drill deep into the mausoleum of a prince-bishop. All over Europe I enjoy evocative cemeteries. Do you have a favorite?
This is Day 56 of my 100 Days in Europe series. As I research my guidebooks and make new TV shows, I’m reporting on my experiences and lessons learned in Vienna, the Alps, the Low Countries, England, and beyond. Find more on my travel blog at

Sebastianskirche Friedhof in Salzburg
The passage to the world-famous St. Sebastian's Cemetery has held the tomb of the famous physician Theophratus Bombastus von Hohenheim, also called Paracelsus, since 1564
Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau had the cemetery built by Andrea Berteleto from 1795 to 1600 in the style of an Italian campo santo to replace the old cathedral cemetery. Prominent Salzburg burghers and merchants' families as well as famous personalities have found their last resting place under the magnificent arcades of the cemetery: Mozart's father Leopold, Wolfgang's wife Constanze as well as her second husband, Georg Nikolas von Nissen, her aunt Genovefa von Weber, mother of the composer Carl Maria von Weber, as well as Elia Castello, builder of the Gabriel Chapel.
The Gabriel Chapel with the mausoleum for Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich in the center of the cemetery is undoubtedly the most magnificent tomb. It was built after designs by Elia Costello and still bears witness to the authority and philosophy of the former sovereign.

Traveling and Wandering around Salzburg Part 2
I was base in Salzburg Austria for 2 days. Decided to get one of the Salzburg map and walk around the city during the early morning hours. My hostel was quite a bit far from the city center. I didn't really have a plan today, I just wanted to explore the city, walk through the maze like streets, get lost, walk into churches and buildings. Probably Salzburg is most famous for it being the birthplace of Mozart and the movie the Sound of Music. music credit to Veneox

Der Name Melaten wurde vermutlich vom französischen malade krank abgeleitet. Melaten lag gut einen Kilometer westlich der Stadt Köln und war ursprünlich ein campus lepros genanntes Leprosenheim.

TRIP TO SALZBURG - AUSTRIA
Salzburg (help·info) (Austro-Bavarian: Såizburg; literally: Salt Castle) is the fourth-largest city in Austria and the capital city of the federal state of Salzburg.
Salzburg's Old Town (Altstadt) has internationally renowned baroque architecture and one of the best-preserved city centres north of the Alps. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The city is noted for its Alpine setting.
Salzburg was the birthplace of 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the mid-20th century, the city was the setting for parts of the American musical and film The Sound of Music, which features famous landmarks in Austria. The musical was a partnership between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.
The capital city of the State of Salzburg (Land Salzburg), the city has three universities. It has a large population of students who add liveliness and energy to the area, and the universities provide culture to the community.
Photos and videos were taken with a Nikon COOLPIX P100, not the newer Nikon COOLPIX P500. But performance and features should be almost identical.

Getreidegasse (also known as Grain Lane) is a busy shopping street in the Old-Town section of Salzburg. The house at no. 9 Getreidegasse is the place where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born and where he lived until the age of 17. Originally called Trabegasse (derived from traben to trot), its name was changed several times before it became the Grain Lane.
The Mirabell Palace (German: Schloss Mirabell) is a historical building in Salzburg, Salzburgerland, Austria.
It was built in the Baroque style, with Italian and French models, by Archbishop Wolf Dietrich Raitenau in 1606. In its geometrically-arranged gardens are mythology-themed statues dating from 1730 and four groups of sculpture (Eneas, Hercules, Paris and Pluton) by the Italian sculptor Ottavio Mosto, from 1690. It is noted for its boxwood layouts.
Salzburg is a tourist favourite, with the number of tourists outnumbering locals by a large margin in peak times. In addition to Mozart's birthplace noted above, other notable places include:
