Amsterdam Central Station - Centraal Station
Amsterdam Central Station Building Amsterdam Central Station main train station is the real heart of the city: central not only by the name, but also as the biggest public transport transfer spot, serving not only visitors to Amsterdam, but also city inhabitants. Every day 250,000 people go through the Amsterdam Central Station. Final stops of several lines of city trams and buses are here, as well as waterfront stations of city ferry lines taking cars and passengers to Amsterdam North (Amsterdam Noord). It is also here, that a main Amsterdam Tourist Office is based, as well as departure quays for the tourist boats cruising around the city canals. Amsterdam Centraal is the largest railway station of Amsterdam, Netherlands, and a major national railway hub. Used by 162,000 passengers a day, it is the second-busiest railway station in the country after Utrecht Centraal and the most visited national heritage site of the Netherlands.

Nieuwe entree Amsterdam Centraal
Het gebied aan de centrumzijde van station Amsterdam Centraal gaat op de schop. Er wordt gebouwd aan een ondergrondse fietsenstalling met plek voor 7000 fietsen. Boven de grond gaat de herinrichting meer ruimte voor voetgangers en fietsers opleveren. Projectleider Maarten Struijs geeft een impressie van de toekomstige fietsenstalling en Martijn Sargentini van Vervoerregio Amsterdam vertelt over het beleid om meer fietsparkeervoorzieningen te bouwen bij treinstations.

Full Train Journey: NS Intercity Direct Amsterdam Centraal to Schiphol Airport
This is a video of me taking the Nederlandse Spoorwegen NS Intercity Direct train from Amsterdam Centraal to Schiphol Airport. There are frequent trains linking the city centre of Amsterdam with the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. A one way 2nd class adult ticket costs €5.50 and can be quickly bought from any ticket machine. Those machines accept payments by card, coins and 5 Euro banknotes. Since I was left with way too much loose change, I decided to take my time and pay with my coins, much to the frustration of the Italian lady behind me in the queue!
The ticket is known as a chip card and functions just like an Oyster Card or Octopus Card. You place it on the card reader on the entrance gate to gain entry to the station. 3 types of domestic train services run from Amsterdam Centraal, the Sprinter, Intercity and Intercity Direct. Of course, the station is also features international services like the Eurostar, Intercity Express (ICE), Deutsche Bahn and Thalys.
The next train to the airport just happened to be a fast Intercity Direct service, which goes straight to the airport without stopping. The train was already more than half full when I boarded, but I managed to get a window seat before the train departed. I turned my camera on and watched as the train left the city centre, skipping past numerous stations like Amsterdam Sloterdijk and Amsterdam Lelylaan before going underground a few minutes before reaching the Schiphol Airport Station. No exit gates are installed for the convenient of passengers, so I could head straight to the terminal after taking the escalators from the platform.
