ALPINE CHAMOIS HUNT | MERKEL K5
We're back for the latest instalment of our #HuntingMagicMoments series, as Owen goes out to Austria in search of Chamois! On this hunt, we put the new Merkel K5 through a practical field test. With a super slim action, weight of just 2.3kg, and the choice of 7x56R calibre we had the perfect rifle setup for the mountains.

CHAMOIS Valle D'Aosta, ITALY
Расположенный на высоте 1815 метров в средней долине Маттерхорна, Шамуа является самым высоким муниципалитетом в долине Аоста и одним из самых высоких в Италии.
До Шамуа можно добраться в основном по канатной дороге, которая отправляется из деревушки Анте-Сен-Андре. Наиболее обученные могут подняться в Шамуа по старой тропе мула, которая, с ее 93 узкими изгибами, до сих пор соединяет город у подножия долины или из деревни Ла-Магдалина по пути, называемому «энергетическим путем», прогулка, подходящая для всех, кто идет пешком. или на велосипеде, благодаря услуге «совместное использование велосипедов», действующей в летние месяцы.
Любители туристических полетов могут испытать посадку в небольшом горном порту.
Как вы уже догадались, в этом городе нет машин; Фактически, серна с 2006 года может похвастаться названием «Жемчужина Альп» и является частью созвездия альпийских городов, которое объединяет некоторые из самых красивых горных районов Европы, объединенных общим стремлением содействовать защите Территория и путешествия свободны от ограничений автомобиля.

Situato a 1815 metri d’altitudine, nella media valle del Cervino, sulla sinistra orografica del torrente Marmore, Chamois è il comune più alto della Valle d’Aosta ed uno fra i più alti d’Italia.
Chamois è raggiungibile principalmente mediante una funivia che parte da Buisson, frazione di Antey-Saint-André. I più allenati possono salire a Chamois seguendo la vecchia mulattiera che, con le sue 93 strette curve, congiunge tutt’ora la località al fondovalle oppure dal paese di La Magdeleine percorrendo il sentiero chiamato “percorso energia”, passeggiata adatta a tutti percorribile a piedi o in bicicletta grazie anche al servizio di “bike sharing” attivo nei mesi estivi.
Gli amanti del volo turistico possono sperimentare un atterraggio nel piccolo altiporto.
Come avrete immaginato, in questa località non circolano le vetture; Chamois, infatti, dal 2006 può fregiarsi dell’appellativo di “Perla delle Alpi” e fa parte di una costellazione di località dell’arco alpino che associa luoghi montani fra i più belli d’Europa, uniti dalla comune volontà di promuovere la tutela del territorio e gli spostamenti liberi dal vincolo dell’automobile.
Il paese ha mantenuto intatte tutte le caratteristiche di piccolo borgo alpino, con le abitazioni in legno e pietra e le strette stradine che lo attraversano e regala ai turisti che lo scoprono la possibilità di trascorrere vacanze uniche, lontani dai luoghi comuni, in una località veramente eccezionale e nella quiete più assoluta.
Questa peculiarità è gelosamente difesa dai suoi abitanti, che ne apprezzano i benefici in termini di tranquillità e a cui non pesa la conseguente situazione di relativo isolamento.
Un tracciato molto panoramico che permette di avere una visione dall’alto dell’abitato di Chamois e di tutta la natura che lo circonda è quello lungo il Ru des Novalles.
I rus sono dei canali irrigui costruiti intorno al XIII ed il XV secolo; molti sono tuttora in esercizio e percorribili a piedi o in mountain bike lungo agevoli sentieri che li costeggiano. Il Ru des Novalles inizia presso l’alpeggio di Foressus (2050 metri) e, dopo circa 2 km in piano, arriva al lago di Lod (2015 metri) per poi scendere sino alla frazione di Lavoré, dalla quale continua la sua discesa lungo le rocce sino ad Antey-Saint-André.
In inverno il comprensorio sciistico di Chamois offre varie tipologie di discese, con belle piste di oltre 16 chilometri di lunghezza.

Hunting Chamois & Tahr (Film 4) | South Westland, New Zealand
A four day trip into the South Westland mountains, New Zealand. Checking out a new area and looking for a mid-winter chamois skin for Nick's 10 buck. While we saw plenty of large bulls, the fine weather meant that they were too high up for us to reach. We settled for a representative chamois buck, from which we harvested the skin and meat.
On this trip we used a Sako Finnlight chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum with a Leupold VX5 HD 3-15x56. The shot was taken at 220 yards.

A six day reccy up an East Coast river in search of chamois and tahr. A representative 11 bull is taken for the meat and horns, and big mobs are filmed feeding on the steep faces.
