Full Time RV | Charleston South Carolina | Changing Lanes!
We were in Charleston SC near the end of April and the weather was beautiful! (with the exception of a few days of spring storms).
For the first week, we stayed about an hour outside of Charleston (in Ridgeville, SC) at a small State Park called Givhans Ferry State Park. It was a tiny but nice and clean park with about 35 sites. There wasn't a lot to do in or around this park, which was perfect for us! It was the perfect opportunity to catch up on work and to rest.
After that week, we moved into Charleston and set up camp at Lake Aire Campground. There were not too many RV parks close to the historic district and it took us about 25-30 minutes to get there from Lake Aire. While we were there, we went on a carriage tour of the historic district, went on several motorcycle rides around town and also out to Sullivan's Island, Mount Pleasant and Isle of Palms. We had to cut our trip short, to take care of a few things back in Florida, but we were able to get out to see the beautiful 400-year old Angel Oak Tree.
We also drove out to James Island County Park, where we will be staying on our trip back down South in the winter. We are really looking forward to going back there and seeing some of the sights that we didn't have to chance to this time!

Millions of tourists flock to Charleston every year to admire its old architecture and learn about it’s history. Not you guys, you’re here to party… and maybe pass some cool looking buildings as you walk from bar to bar. However, If you want to have the full Charleston experience, I do recommend a leisurely stroll- or better yet a breezy “roll” to some of Charleston top attractions.

In my opinion, biking is the best way to get around downtown Charleston in the day time, you can cover so much more ground on a bike! Also, it’s hawt’’ as hell in the summer time, (not in a good way) so that’s why I prefer biking to walking- you can beat the sweltering heat, or at least minimize the amount of time you subject yourself to it… So take yourselves on a bicycle tour of downtown Charleston, or cruise around at the beach. Stay tuned for recommended bike routes that I will publish soon!

GO HYDROBOARDING WITH CHARLESTON HYDROFLY
This is one of my top choices for things to do for a Charleston, SC bachelorette party! It’s a great way to spend the day. Hydrofly Watersports is located on the Ashley River/Brittlebank Park- which is right downtown, so it’s super easy to get to if you’re staying there. There’s a little floating Tiki Hut with lots of floats and water toys so you and your friends can kick it while you take turns getting your lesson and flying around. It’s a blast!

Planters Inn - Charleston Video : Charleston, South Carolina, United States
Built three centuries ago- the city of Charleston is one of the best-preserved architectural treasures in the United States. The colonial houses lining its narrow streets are an eloquent reminder of its joyous and tormented story- like a condensed history of America. The birthplace of swing and the Charleston dance - made famous by Josephine Baker - the city still has all the charm that it owes to its multi-ethnic origins.
Entering the Planters Inn- overlooking the Old City Market and the many art galleries- is like stepping back in time. On the patios full of tropical flowers and fountains- you will relax to a serenade of jazz.
As well as sipping delicious cocktails and tasting the generous American cuisine- you can discover the nearby sites of Cypress Gardens- Middleton Place and other famous old cotton and tobacco plantations. Exploring Charleston with Kids in Brutal Summer Heat
Let me start by saying that Charleston is beautiful seaside city. We only had a day to explore in the brutal summer heat, but we tried to see has much as we could in a short period of time. We took a self walking tour, strolled through the City Market and cooled off at Waterfront Park and the Pineapple fountain. Yes, the kids got really wet, but when visiting Charleston with kids in the summer you need to keep cool. Along the way we stopped at many restaurants and watering holes, like the Crab House, Lagunitas Brewery and Henry's House. It was a short day, but a good one and we can't wait to go back.

Last December Day of 2016 | Charleston | Horse Carriage Ride
Exploring downtown with the #family - from Brunch to a Horse Drawn carriage tour to a walk at the beach... just another wonderful family day in Chucktown
SOUTHERN CHARM IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF CHARLESTON
Vlog Episode 8 is full of college football, my wonderful family, cuteness and tons of positive vibes. It also includes a rant about Southern Charm. Oops. Sometimes that negativity does creep in no matter how hard you fight it.
I love Charleston. It’s one of my favorite cities in the world and now everyone is starting to agree. How many times now have we been named Best City In America? Like five years in a row?
This is where I was raised. This is where I will raise my kids. That’s why I get so annoyed when I get that same old question every single time I fly outside our state’s borders - “do you know the Southern Charm cast?”
AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH!!
Short answer - yes. I know Thomas Ravenel and Kathryn Dennis.
Long answer - you’ll have to watch this video to find out.
Big thanks to my editor Alisa Myers at my agency Push Digital.

Brushing up on Dental History in Charleston, SC
See more at
When I was told that we were going to do an episode on a dental museum in Charleston SC, my teeth immediately started hurting. Although I’ve always had excellent dental health, it’s just a learned behavior. However, after researching the Macaulay Museum of Dental History on the campus of the Medical College of South Carolina (MUSC) and learned of Dr. Neill Webster Macaulay’s contribution to the advancement of dentistry, all of my unease dissipated. I’m sure my dentist will be thrilled! Enjoy brushing up on dental history with this episode of Stories, Secrets and Sagas.
EPISODE TRANSCRIPT
There are certain things I really love: A walk on the beach, laughter with friends, holding hands with my husband. But, there are things I really dislike, too. In this episode of Stories, Secrets and Sagas, you’ll learn about a dislike that I have and a museum to go with it!
All kidding aside, going to the dentist has to be one of my least favorite things to do. It can be frightening and unpleasant even if most dentists do their best to help us through the trauma. And here, in Charleston SC is a museum dedicated to dental history.
The Macaulay Museum of Dental History was founded in 1975 to serve as a repository for information and resources about the history of dentistry and dental practitioners. This is all on the campus of the Medical University of South Carolina.
Let's face it, even though I hate going to the dentist, things have come a long way -- a very long way!
We’ve all heard of George Washington’s wooden teeth, and did you know that in the 1800s people used rags and water to clean their teeth? Some even used salt and chalk as ways to clean the cavity-inducing plaque off their teeth.
I have heard that sometimes a powder was made from the ashes of ox hooves and burnt eggshells, kind of an early toothpaste. Bet they didn’t advertise it for its whitening effects!
So when you look at things today, you realize just how far we have come. This museum exhibits many of the changes that occurred throughout dental history and all in honor of Dr. Neill Webster Macaulay. Dr. Macaulay was an advocate for the profession of dentistry in South Carolina. He knew the importance of good dental training and had the vision to get things done. In fact, he helped establish the state of South Carolina’s only dental school – The Medical University of South Carolina. But, he also helped mentor and guide hundreds of students - known as “The Macaulay Boys” into dental school.
Susan Hoffius, M.S. – Past Curator, Waring Historical Library: So, Dr. Neill Macaulay was born in South Carolina. He went to the Atlanta Southern Dental School – Dental College – and then came back to practice dentistry in South Carolina, in Columbia, South Carolina. He ran a general practice, but he was also very interested in both the history of dentistry in South Carolina and dental education and advancement of the profession of dentistry in South Carolina. So, when we redesigned the Macaulay Museum of Dental History, we did that with those three, sort of, pillars in mind – practice, education and professionalism that were so much a part of what he brought to dentistry in South Carolina.
Dr. Macaulay made an impact. The museum named in his honor helps tell the story of how things have advanced in dental history. We’ll see you next week on Stories, Secrets and Sagas.
