Chợ Lớn (About this sound listen) is a Chinese-influenced section of Ho Chi Minh City (former Saigon). It lies on the west bank of the Saigon River, having Bình Tây Market as its central market. Cholon consists of the western half of District 5 as well as several adjoining neighborhoods in District 6.
Quan Âm Pagoda, a famous Chinese temple in Cholon
The Vietnamese name Cholon literally means big (lớn) market (chợ). The Chinese name (and original name) of Cholon is 堤岸 (pronounced Tai-Ngon in Cantonese and Dī'àn in Mandarin,[1][2] which means embankment (French: quais). The Vietnamese reading of the Chinese name is Đê Ngạn, but this is rarely used. Vietnamese speakers exclusively use the name Chợ Lớn, while Chinese speakers (both inside Vietnam and in China) are the only users of the latter.
In 1778, the Hoa (Chinese minority of Vietnam) living in Biên Hòa had to take refuge in what is now Cholon because they were retaliated against by the Tây Sơn forces for their support of the Nguyễn lords. In 1782, they were again massacred by the Tây Sơn and had to rebuild. They built high embankments against the flows of the river, and called their new settlement Tai-Ngon (meaning embankment in Cantonese).
Cholon was incorporated as a city in 1879, 11 km from Saigon. By the 1930s, it had expanded to the city limit of Saigon. On 27 April 1931, Cholon and the neighbouring city Saïgon were merged to form a single city called ‘Saïgon–Cholon’; ‘Cholon’ was dropped from the city's official name in 1956 after Vietnam's independence from France in 1955.[4] The official name ‘Saïgon–Cholon’, however, never entered everyday vernacular and the city continued to be referred to as ‘Saïgon’.
During the Vietnam War, soldiers and deserters from the United States Army maintained a thriving black market at Cholon, trading in various American and especially U.S Army-issue items. This was the area, near the Quan Âm Pagoda where photojournalist Eddie Adams took his famous execution photograph.[5] Four Australian journalists were also killed in Cholon during the Tet Offensive in 1968.[6]
Today, Cholon especially attracts many Mainland Chinese and Taiwanese tourists. (Wikipedia)

Cute Pretty Lady Bus Conductor in Vietnam || Airport to Vietnam city center // Traffic// Part-2
Cute Pretty Lady Bus Conductor in Vietnam
When I arrived at Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh city. First I did.. Exchanged my currency Dollar to Vietnamese dong. You will surprise to see how it makes you very rich for some time.. Then I had to take bus from airport to city center District 1. Bus always available in front of Airport. Airport is not too big. When I reached to Bus I found there is very pretty young girl well dressed like a air hostess is Bus Conductor of that Bus. Then I stepped inside the bus and choose my seat. Took my Ticket and Started my first day Journey in Vietnam. There was rainy season in city. That was so nice for me. I enjoyed it a lot. Also there is so much traffic specially Bikes on road. That you will see in this video. I hope you will like this video and subscribe. :)
Few Important Question for Tourists
How to get to Ho Chi Minh City from the airport?
The cheapest way to get to the city is by taking bus 152 near the arrivals exit. It costs extra if your luggage weighs over 10kg, but will take you all the way downtown to the bus station near Cho (market) Ben Tanh. Taxis are located to the left of the terminal. Make sure you take a metered taxi and do not pay in any currency other than Vietnamese dong or you risk being ripped off.
Where to eat?
One of the most charming things about Ho Chi Minh City is how the low-cost street food can so often outperform its best restaurants. You'll find many good ones on Dong Khoi, the lively stretch of shops and bars between the river and cathedral.
Where to shop?
Ho Chi Minh City has several markets worth visiting as well as the aforementioned Pham Ngu Lao Street. The two largest are Cho Ben Tanh and Cho Lon. Cho Lon – the Chinese market – has a dazzling array of goods on offer and is the least touristy of the two. Ben Tanh is also fun to visit, and better regulated, with less knock-off merchandise and fewer pickpockets. That said, you should always be wary of both those things.

Saigon Walk: Pho Duc Chinh St. & Vintage Market, D1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam [4K]
Pho Duc Chinh is another parallel street to Calmette street. We walked from the riverside to the North, until the Ben Thanh bus terminal.
Maybe it is disappointing if you expect something special on this street. However it was interesting enough to us to see local street food and meet friendly people smile and waving at me, astonished by the camera.
Ho Chi Minh Fine Arts Museum is one of the worth-visiting museum in the city, in my opinion. You can imagine the life of Vietnamese people from the old time to present through the paintings and sculptures. The old building itself is beautiful, mixed in both French and Chinese style.
Vintage Market is on the Le Cong Kieu street. Check out the antique items in Asian style such as statues of Buddha or potteries with unique patterns. If you have interest in it, you will have a lot of fun here! (but I must say that I don't know how to distinguish the real ones from the fake ones!)
If you have any questions, be sure to leave a comment. Enjoy!
